Picky meat eater and quality of meat served?

Her's my dilemma, I am extremely choosy about the meat I eat and only eat chicken, beef, and some pork. Fish on rare occasion. I will not tolerate seafood of any type even touching my food and I won't eat meat unless it is a solid piece (meaning no chopped formed pressed meats), not on the bone like ribs or with carcass attached like a half chicken - so gross. I won't eat anything unless it is very lean or white meat chicken or pork. Where in WDW can I get a decent meal both counter service and sit down? I wanted to try Ohana but wasn't sure the quality of meat served.
I liked Wolfgang Puck's Express salads and pizza and pasta. I liked the burgers okay at Pecos Bill's. Not the buns though....blech.

What you described has nothing to with quality of meat or for that matter health, what you described is just.....crazy. Chicken cooked on the bone has better flavor, fish is better for you. Honestly, this will sound bad, but if carcasses gross you out, that means killing grosses you out, so don't eat meat. Now, opinion is out of the way, i'm sure you could find something you like at most places, and if not, you could go with a vegetable type plate.

I'm a little confused by what exactly it is you will and will not eat....

You said you eat fish sometimes, but that you don't like seafood at any type. Fish is seafood.

You also said no chopped, formed, pressed meats, but mention you liked the burgers at Pecos Bills....those are chopped formed patties of ground beef.

I'm not trying to be rude, it's just hard to answer your question when the information you give is contradictory.

The meat at 'Ohana is grilled on skewers - pork, chicken, and beef are in chunks, one meat per skewer. There are whole shell on shrimp (heads cut off) on their own skewers. Servers come around with the giant skewers and slide off however many pieces of meat you want. I found the quality of the meats to be moderately good - whole meats, no filler, but it's not super high quality.

"not on the bone like ribs or with carcass attached like a half chicken - so gross"

It is hard to figure out if you are sincere or trying to stir up trouble. Usually one avoids referring to food that most people eat as "so gross."

I would recommend chicken nuggets etc but they are usually processed. Serving chicken with the bone attached is one of the best ways to ensure you are getting a more natural piece of meat.

Also confused about the chopped meat vs. hamburger thing.

I do recognize that many people have an issue regarding certain foods touching each other. So just cannot tell.

LOL, yeah it gets confusing for others. I tolerate fish once a year like at Long John Silver's heavily breaded with dipping sauce and no fish taste at all. I eat ground sirloin, I won't touch most ground meats or sausage and I pick out anything that looks like grisle or fat. I only eat boneless skinless chicken breast. I only eat pork tenderloin or loin and only the white bits of that. I am grossed out by the shrimps as they still have the feet on them and DH loves seafood so I just don't look and keep my glass covered. I try to think of other things and hum or something so I don't hear him cracking open the crab legs and other stuff. I'd sit at another table if I wasn't considered impolite. I do think killing is gross and I'd be the one yelling, "Run Bambi Run!" My meat comes from the market in little square packages with no bone and no identifying bits of whatever animal it was still attached. I would make a great vegetarian but I do love a good cheeseburger and like steak sometimes and chicken. So I need a restaurant that would have leaner cuts of meat that I might enjoy that aren't served like a half chicken still on the bones or not flank steak which is a very poor quality cut and inedible. Ideas? "*** DH the meat and taters man still has to eat too, or at least some place that offers a good salad or other vegetarian entree that I might enjoy?

So you eat:
pizza
pasta
salad
very lean beef
white meat chicken
pork
fish
nothing on the bone
no chopped meat unless it is a burger

check here to see menus for all the Disney restaurants: http://allears.net/menu/menus.htm

Find something that appeals to you and then ask for opinions on that restaurant. There are so many variables. As far as the quality of the meat, is it free range, organic & grass fed - no. Probably other than a steak at a signature restaurant, you are going to find typical restaurant quality ingredients.

I knew someone that had issues with meat on the bone (couldn't even watch someone else eat a chicken wing) and couldn't deal with/look at raw meat. So OP could very well be legit. It sounds like OP more so has food issues than only being satisifed with prime cuts of meat though.

O'hana might be good bet since the meat is served in chunks, but it sounds like she might freak out with the chicken wings on the table or on tables around her.

You eat chicken, beef, pork and fish...so basically you eat everything. The only thing you didn't mention was turkey. You basically eat every meat group.

Like someone already said you don't want seafood touching your food but you eat fish. You don't want chopped formed meat but you love cheeseburgers.

Seems more wacky to me than picky. I'm not sure there is any one place that you are going to like. My guess is you are going to find something wrong with anywhere or anything you eat.

Do you send food back a lot and always complain to the waiter how low quality the food is when you go out to eat?

Sounds like you would be better off just sticking with pizza, pasta and salads.

I would be looking for chicken parmigiana, pork chops, flat breads, salads. What about a nice lean filet?

My apologies, sincerely not trying to stir up trouble. I just have always been a picky eater, been that way 49 years, ask my mom, lol. You should see me trying to prepare a Thanksgiving turkey with my gloves and tongs and towels and it's quite a sight, but really I do have food issues and especially with meats. Anyway, I was trying to find restaurants that the hubs would like that I could also find something maybe other than salad as a salad or veggie plate gets old and a nice meat dish would be nice. Kathleenskid, yep you got it that is what I eat. Thanks for the info.

I am thinking if it is in a form where you can kind of deny where it came from, you are good?

How about for your occasional fish, eating the fish and chips at the Rose and Crown?

Yum! I love chicken parmesan, that is usually the only italian food I order except eggplant or alfredo. I really want to try the melon pizza at Via Napoli too. DH loves seafood though so I hoped Ohana would be a good match for both and hope there is chicken that is chunks of white meat skewered and not just the wings, as I don't do wings.Otherwise I'm gonna need a lot of salad and veggie refills. I have DH cover the pile of bones or crab legs shells with a napkin so I can dine without losing my appetite. We get along. He dines I dont look.

Umm, you do realize that most of those cheeseburgers you enjoy are not ground sirloin.....right?

You obviously have an food association issue, many people do. No biggie. You, likely, sometime in the future will be a vegetarian! JMO Some people are diehard carnivores and look at vegetables as if they are dog poo...so to the point at hand. From looking at 'Ohana menu, they have a grilled polynesian style pork loin. Loin = lean, if any fat only on the edges in minimal quantities. it is usually marinated to keep it from drying...so, for you...you'd be best to always order beef or pork loin type cuts...tenderloin, filet, etc. Boneless chicken breasts are safe bet, too, since you like ckn parm. They have noodles in a peanut sauce, which seem to be the rage.

FWIW, most food aversions, especially in children have to do with texture. Your taste buds aren't fully developed until maybe well into your 20's. If you have an association issue, further delving could help. Is it truly gross or are you merely emotionally attached to the knowledge from whence this "meat" came. Sounds more like that to me. Regardless...Bon Appetit!

OP, I can relate to you.

I'm not a picky person at all...but when it comes to food...I secretly hide from everyone that I am very picky and peculiar.

I do not eat most vegetables.

I will eat what I call clear vegetables -- lettuce, spinach, cucumbers, radishes. I like the starches...corn, rice (but not white rice), potatoes, cabbage (in slaw) and even like the colored ones like pumpkin and yams. I really enjoy onions and peppers. I've learned to tolerate broccolli, carrots and zucinni.

I will NOT eat...pinto beans, kidney beans, lentils, black eyed peas, navy beans, baked beans, lima beans, green peas, turnip greens, mustard greens, collards, cauliiflower, rutabegas, okra, squash, etc.

If you stick it in a pot and boil it to death, I don't want it!!!! I tell waiters at Mexican restaurants that I have allergic reactions to beans. I don't, but it keeps it off my plate. I can't stand to smell pinto beans cooking!! I get sick to my stomach.

This all goes back to me being a very little kid. I think my parents forced me to eat pinto beans, so then I didn't want any part of any kind of bean, or anything that looked like a bean, and then when I found out that they were also vegetables...I didn't want those either. I'm 42 years old and trust me when I say that my list of vegetables that I do eat has grown considerably over the years.

A big part of my problem is that as a child, I was exposed to that good 'ol Southern cookin'. Too bad for me, I don't care for that. I don't even like iced tea.

Your preferences don't sound difficult to me. My husband does not care for any bones on any meat and only really likes shrimp without shells and lobster tails. He will not eat crab or flat fish of any kind. This is how he was brought up and while he's added a lot of food to his repetoire, he's still limited. BTW, he never has a problem eating out.

You'll be able to order boneless chicken breast prepared many ways at most sit down restaurants. Pork loin is another easily found meat. Filet mignon is boneless and not fatty. If you are uneasy about sauces, most restaurants will serve meats dry. You'll probably do best at sit down restaurants at WDW.

If I didn't know any better, I would swear OP was my sister in disguise! :lmao:

We are going to WDW in August, and she is extremely picky about the meat she eats! Always worried about biting into a "hard ball" (gristle I guess) :confused3

I will share this thread with her, in hopes that it makes my life easier when we are there! ;)

Have a magical vacation OP! :wizard:

PLEASE, try going vegetarian or vegan. It will be the best choice you will have made. You don't have to worry about E-coli, salmonella or other intestinal/bacterial problems. They have delicious meat-free food at Disney..just some of my faves:

-Veggie burgers/wraps
-Vegetable sushi
-Fresh fruit salads
-A Mecca of pasta and pizza dishes
-Couscous
-Breads/spreads
-Dairy free milkshakes
-Popcorn, pretzels

"You don't have to worry about E-coli, salmonella or other intestinal/bacterial problems." Really?! That would be news to the Germans as well as the victims of the California Organic tainted spinach.

There are lots of reasons to go vegetarian, but avoiding food poisoning is definitely not one of them!

I'm going to suggest going to POP century and eating the chicken alfredo dish, the chicken is really good and identifiable as white meat chicken.

If you can tolerate the burgers at Pecos Bills then you can eat the burgers any where on property. I can't eat them myself, they are too greasy.

the chicken nuggets available everywhere (adult not childrens) are white meat chicken and tasty.

The pepper market at coronado springs has a great selection of actual meat products and you watch them cooking in front of you so you know what's involved in the dish.

At Saratoga springs there is a really good chicken breast sandwich panini that you could have made to your specifications and they have the turf club which has good foods.

OMG - the chicken sandwich at the little wagon outside of pecos Bills is so good! I eat it every time. Bun is horrible but the chicken is a great filet!

Umm, I'll try to think of more.
