Hi,

Considering flying into Tampa due to flight availablility (Aeroplan) and visiting parents prior to doing Disney. We'd pickup the rental car in Tampa. We'd fly out of Orlando (MCO) so would want to return the rental car to a different location (MCO).

Has anyone done this and is there usually an extra charge ? If so, how much ?

Time of year will be Jan/Feb 2010.

Yes, this is absolutely possible with the big rental agencies, but it does cost extra. Amount varies from company to company and time of year. Just go to the website of any rental company and enter the info (you can indicate a different pickup and dropoff site).

Thanks, I've been doing that. It's hard to tell because it's so far out that's why I was wondering if anyone did it previously and if some companies were better to deal with (ie: cheaper).

So far some companies have been ie: $200 more and some like National have been the same price. Found a decent rate with them but I don't think any of the coupons are valid for that far out.

Trying to decide if I should book the flight and possibly not get as good a deal on rental.

We picked up in MCO last year and dropped off in TPA from Dollar and there was no charge.

I just used Hertz in March and we p/u at US/IOA and dropped off a week later at Tampa airport and had no problems. We weren't charged extra either. The d/o at Tampa airport is so close to the airport it was scary:scared1: We took 20 steps from the d/o area and were in the airport, so easy.

Yeah, Florida rarely charges drop off fees, but they can. Alamo hasn't for me, but since I rarely travel for business anymore, I don't drop off any more either. Go online and price it out. I pretty much use Alamo exclusively any more - never have a problem with them and rent about 4 - 5 times a year.

The major rental car companies in Florida do not have drop charges when picking up at one Florida city and returning to another Florida city. The exceptions might be franchised locations rather than corporate-owned but all the airport locations are corporate.

I've done this several times with Alamo, Dollar and National. None charged extra fees. Just input your pick up and return locations in the search and it'll be priced.

We've used both Alamo and National (same parent company) pick up at MCO and dropped at Tampa for no extra charge, so I would assume it would be same policy if reversed.

I'm flying into MCO, renting from Alamo at the end of June, going to a conference in Tampa, and returning the car to TPA. No drop off charges with Alamo.

I have picked up at TPA with Dollar, dropping off at MCO, no fee. Also picked up at MCO, dropped off at TPA with Alamo, no fee.

Many people who cruise on DCL use Budget or Avis to drive to the port since they both have offices at MCO and Port Canaveral. No fees there either.

Thanks Everyone ! I went ahead and booked my flights through Aeroplan. Will probably book an initial rental but the wait begins till the better deals and coupons.

The past few years my family and I have rented with Avis at MCO and returned the car at their location in the Tampa Airport.
