I am making a green salad as part of our Christmas Dinner. I would love to add some pickled onions but didn't find them at the store I checked. Anyone know if pickled onions are available at the grocery store ? If so which store did you find them at?

So far I am thinking romaine lettuce, green & red peppers, pickled onions (if I can find them), cranberries, maybe pecans & feta cheese. Any other suggestions?

I will also be making homemade blue cheese dressing.

Best to call local supermarkets and ask, or ask on your community's Facebook page. Most posters don't live near you or shop at the same stores.

i don't know if they sell them in containers like their soup or salads but panera has great pickled onions they put on some of their sandwiches-it couldn't hurt to call one if you are local and ask if you could get some.

They are the EASIEST thing to make. There are many recipes online and they usually include simmering red wine vinegar with a bit of sugar and then pouring it over sliced red onions. I allow it to cool and then place it in the fridge. They are wonderful in tacos and salads!

Not sure if this is what you're looking for but cocktail onions (both sweet and sour) are widely available here in the pickle/condiment aisle. I put them, along with gherkins, on all my relish trays.

I make them myself. You probably have everything you need on hand already! It’s amazing how they jazz up any dish. Like @Brancaneve said, they couldn’t be easier!

I make them, sliced red onion, whole garlic cloves, salt/sugar, white vinegar. I pour boiling water over them and put them on a jar with the other ingredients, ready in an hour. There are so many recipes for quick pickled onions.

Google. You can have them ready in a half hour, according to at least one recipe i found.

Guess I’ll be making pickled onions tonight. I had assumed they would take much longer. Like weeks to be ready.

We make them all the time for tacos and as others have noted, they take less than an hour and are better than store bought, in my opinion. If you have a mandolin slicer, that makes for better pickles as they are evenly cut. I prefer red onions but sweet onions also work well.

My onion is sitting on the counter "pickling" as I type this. Very easy. Hopefully very tasty in 2 days.

If you're using bleu cheese dressing, leave off the feta. I'd make a light vinaigrette instead if you want to keep the feta.

I'm skipping the feta. Mainly because I'd have to do two salads becauseof my vegan daughter, She'll have to fend for her self on the dressing. ;)

Though, I do Blue Cheese with salads that have feta all the time.

I have a vegan daughter too! I’ve had to learn a whole new way of cooking. I’m a vegetarian, so you’d think it wouldn’t be that different, but it really is.
