Yes, bedbugs are all over the news. Some say freeze them to death and some say fry them out with heat. I'd be more inclined to think that the heat would work the best, but for some reason, am skeptical that even that works permanently. I can't imagine that they are letting this infestation get so bad when we *do* have a chemical that will kill them... I'm torn. I don't know how I feel about that.
It's supposed to be beautiful here (for us anyways) and can't wait to open the windows up and get some fresh air in this house.
They've been around for ages. I remember my Grandmother saying she had them on her HONEYMOONTracy - I agree with Christine, no home cooked meal from your family as you are such a great cook and it would not compare to what you would do
Bedbug conference? wow - I guess there is a conference for everything.
You know, until I was on the DIS, I never heard of these little creatures. Didn't see any at POP either in August - wonder if the seasons make any difference.

Had to drive Mark to work this morning because the tow truck took my truck to the dealership yesterday... piece of garbage it is... and I had to transfer my coffee from my Mickey (china) mug to my plastic resort mug. I got teary eyed and told Mark that I was going to pretend that I was going for my early morning coffee at Old Port Royale.![]()
I think the heat is supposed to be what kills the buggers. BUT to have a home treated is a cost of around $5000 to $7000!!How many people can afford that? That means the things will keep breeding and moving into more homes.
Wonder why the things haven't made it to Canada yet? (hope they dislike Cananda!) Or is it just big news in for the US?
From what I read, DDT was strongly linked to beast cancer - it was banned in 1980. Took 20 yrs for it to get this bad..so what have scientists been doing all this time? Did they really believe the bugs would not spread? Oh, sure....yep, a pesticide that causes cancer, but kills bedbugs can be taken off the market and the bugs will simply go away. Yup, makes sense to me.![]()

Good News Pickles!!! My Niece was born last night at 2:56 am!!! 8lbs 8oz
THe've been around for ages. I remember my Grandmother saying she had them on her HONEYMOON....in the 1930's.
When we were little and slept over at her house, we would say our prayers, then she would say "Good Night, Sleep Tight, Don't let the bedbugs bite." Fortunately, I have never actually SEEN a bedbug...I guess her experience was enough.
I'm not sure how I feel about the DDT either. They say everything is linked to cancer anymore, so it's tough. I think the bigger issue is that they are concerned that the bedbugs will become immune to the DDT, leaving us with a superbug. I have heard that the extreme heat is what will get them....really what they need to do is work on a more affordable heat treatment.....maybe subsidize the cost if this becomes an epedemic.

Tracy, I enjoy DTD Disney alone - but in the parks I find it lonely and sad .... too many memories. What fun is it to go on attractions alone...don't get it. Besides, you & I need someone to catch us when that snake slithers by.![]()
Ok...now I'm hungry. And I want a solo trip.A baby to squeeze!!! Yay! Congrats, auntie. I don't know anyone with a baby that I can snuggle other than my BFF in NY. She welcomed two nieces last week. By the time I see them, they'll be walking or swinging off of monkey bars. Not the same!!
Ooooh, a virtual dinner in Disney. Now that is a hard choice. I'd have to say that Wolfgang Puck was our favourite meal (I'm going to make it soon) and Le Cellier and 50's Primetime are tied for second. I've never had a filet mignon so perfect and the pot roast at Primetime, OMG...to die for. The best QS meal was the BLT sandwich at Earl of Sandwich. We went once with our friends (they loved it as well) and then one day when they all went to the waterpark, I stayed behind and went to DTD and ate one all by myself. Soooooo good. I truly believe that I'd have no problem doing Disney solo. 'cept I'd need a bodyguard to protect me from the snakes. And what is crazy is the price. Those sandwiches are only $5.99!! I would pay $10 for one of them. Seriously. A very cheap meal option if you weren't on the dining plan.
Oh em gee. I can taste it right now...
We are about an hour away. Brian is going to stop by the hospital after work, and we will all head down on Sat. once they are home.Congatulations, Auntie! Do you live close enough to see her soon? Hope so!
the "Good night, sleep tight..." started in the 1800's becasue bedbugs were aplenty then. after that, it became a cute goodnight saying....I still say it sometimes but now it's not so funny.
Heather , you and Janet must not see the news much,Bedbugs are a national epidemic now!!
That's why there is a Conference (they might use another word, but only conference comes to mind). DDT was stopped in 1980 - so the critters have had lots of time to spread.
I have mixed feeling about DDT as well - it's true, everything is cancer causing so what to do? I certainly do not want bedbugs....not only the gross factor or the cost, but without a doubt you can bet I'd have a terrible allergic reaction to the bites.

I'll be winning the lottery soon.
(in other words...where there's a will, there's a way.)
I would miss someone to talk to and perhaps the company, but I've been on several rides by myself and it didn't bother me at all. I've struck up conversations with others while doing this - maybe they felt badly for me!?I really don't think I would mind. Might be a different story once I was down there for a couple of days, but who knows. I'm pretty much a loner anyways. Although some days I can't stand myself, so what would I do then?!

Oh honey. I have no guilt about leaving the kids while on vacation. I've been through enough with all of them that I deserve some "me" time. And I agree. I'd have no problems going at my own pace and doing what I want.
Yeah, having a ticket is most important in order to win the lottery. We got three fortune cookies when we ate at Yak n Yeti and I'm playing those numbers tonight and for future draws. Cross yer fingers.
So the dealership called me about my Escape. "yeah, we preplaced your battery and are ordering you a new radio for the console. We figure it was the radio that drained the battery." Me, "uh, why would you need to order a new battery when the radio is wrecked? How can that drain the battery?" Him, "uh..." Needless to say, I won't be buying another Ford. We've had so many problems with it. It's a four year lease and the warranty is up in February with one more year to lease. We've already put $600 into it and we need tires and more brake pads in February. That will be another $800 or so. Not happy about that at all. Vehicles are basically made with tinker toys these days. Chaps my you know what.
I've got half of my kitchen torn apart to scrub the floor and I just ran out of ambition. Uh oh?
We actually see something about bedbugs on the news every day here, but I don't think it's officially been declared an epedemic yet.
I've never done Disney Solo at all....think I might miss the family, but at the same time I NEED to get away and have some time to myself.
glad you have a plan. I keep saying I'm gonna win the lottery, but I guess I should probably buy a ticket first.
I think it would be so nice to go at MY own pace, eat where I want, when I want, if I want to sit on Main Street and people watch I could, If I wanted to spend all day at the pool, I could do that too. I just think I might feel guilty for going without the kids. But a whine-free, wine-filled trip would be pretty darn sweet![]()

I have not one iota of guilt when I take a trip without kids. Aren't I a big meanie. LOL
I think the rise in juvenile diabetes is probably due to the indrease in hormones in foods and processed foods in general. We didn't have all that crap when we were little. But everything seems linked to something these days, so I am an everything in moderation kinda girl. I'm not going to make everything from scratch, but I'm also not going to give my kids microwaved mystery meat every meal either.Kind of how I feel too ... cancer (and other diseases) are linked to so much ... what we eat, pesticides, pollution, medicines, etc.
My friends daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes this summer ... I wonder, could some of it be attributable to all the growth hormones that are given to animals?? Don't know. I know that there are 4 children in my immediate neighborhood that all have been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in the past 5 years. Scary - it is an awful disease. I always had the fear my kids would get it, since their Dad has it, but I also know there are worse things in life.
Tracy - sorry for your troubles and the fact that Ford has not answered your letter - I too worked in customer relations, and you had to follow up on every letter, complaint, etc. You do not want an unhappy customer.
Well, it is HUMP day, maybe tomorrow will bring better thingsWell, I'm off to have my lunch!
Hi Kathy!Just stopping by to say hi to all of my Pickles. We're on Marco Island and enjoying the weather and pool. We spent 90 minutes with Nicki this morning and we are having dinner with her and her hubby tomorrow (and Saturday too). Here's a little sneak peak pic until we get back and I do my Trip Report.

Have a good time at Back to School Night!Nope - you're just smarter than me!
Morning Pickles!!!
One day closer to the weekend - yeah!!! The weather is nice here (after our storms last night).
It's back to school night at Sam's School. We go to their homerooms, get their schedule for "A" day (the school operates on a 6 day cycle) and then we follow their class schedule for that day (10-15 min a class period) so we experience what they have to do all day and get a chance to briefly meet their teachers. You end of running around the school for almost 2 hrs.!!
Oh so happy not to be back in middle school!!

Good Afternoon, Pickles!!
It has been such a good day today! Reconnected with a friend and it made my day!
Also, in trying to get my mind off the upcoming surgery yesterday, came across a TR and it had me laughing - it was nice....she got a little to judgemental for me at times, but overall it was fun.
Has anyone here had major surgery? I want to eat lightly over the weekend and also have the right food, juices etc, on hand for after the surgery...you know..to keep, uh...things moving, so to speak.![]()
This weekend will try to find a bed table - like for breakfast in bed - so I can be on line, but no pressure on the incisions. Maybe Bed, Bath & Beyond would have a cheap one.
Have a great afternoon!![]()
