Beach has been lovely.. thought of all of you. The back of my legs are burned today, but up until now, no burn :) Found lots of shark's teeth and a few conch shells.

Glad your having a great time! Try not to get burned... I know how miserable that can be.

We have cancelled our trip in Sept. More on that later.

 Hope you have other fun things to do instead. And at least you have your spring (I think that was the next one!) trip to look forward to.

The CSR is available on the way in, but not on the way home (Mark would rather do at the tail end of the trip because otherwise we would have to drive back from Marco Island to Orlando to catch our flight and leave at an ungodly hour).

Keep trying CSR in case they get a cancelation. I know you know that already! ;) Last year I had to schedule POFQ because CSR only had suites, but was able to switch about 3 weeks later.

Oh, Kathy. this would be wonderful!! I have no doubt everything will, work out....wonder which resort you'll be at?? This may be your chance to try FQ!!!:goodvibes

I was thinking the same thing. POFQ is one that I do want to try at some point. Might be a perfect time to see if you like it since it is only for 2 nights.

Oh, maybe I should not have posted the flight number... duh..I'll delete that part....Heather would you do the same in the quote, please? Thanks much!!

OH SHOOT!!! Very severe weather coming this way...including TORONDOS!!! Holy cow...sigh....why doesn't my sil apply for the job in Rolling Meadows, IL???

I may be showing my ignorance when it comes to flying, but why does it matter if you post a flight number?

And as for the tornados and weather... stay safe. I will be keeping a watch on it, as it will be here in a bit.

As for your solo trips... what about friends at your church? My mom has a group of friends at our church that are widows and divorcees that she does things with. She just left this AM for an Alaskan cruise.

We can help Kathy with her resort of September and how about me for a possible December trip? Some friends will be there and I keep going back and forth , back and forth...I don't want to be a tag-along on someone Else's vacation and it could be that way in December, so I hesitate. Do not enjoy being at WDW solo...others love it and say they can do anything they want, anytime they want, but I am happy doing whatever, whenever. Solo in a Park just makes me feel sad.

Also, too many memories...after all these trips I still see Toby here when he was 7 and there when he was 8 and there when he 9, 10, 11 and so on...too difficult on this 'ole heart to do it alone. With friends, it's great, not sad at all and never even need to mention it...it's being alone...

I was alone for two days last summer when Tropical Storm Faye required an extra couple of nights. Spent all my day walking back and forth to my room from the food court, seeing all the happy friends and families - went over to MK thinking I'd walk around and left almost in tears. Nope, solo is for moi. ;)

So, pickles, any plans for the weekend?
:grouphug: I LOVE WL in Dec, and think it would be really nice if you are alone, because it is all in one building...just a "safer" feel to me for solo. But if you are going with friends, then I'd stay wherever they are if there are still rooms there.
why does it matter if you post a flight number?
Just in case there is some Psycho Stalker out there.

It stinks that they were delayed, but I'm glad they are on their way!!!

We're going to Disney!!!We were able to get the $96 rate for three nights at the beginning of our trip; so we'll do Disney for three nights and then go to Marco Island. Guess where we are staying???????

Kathy, all I can say is that you and Mark are made for each other:)

Beach has been lovely.. thought of all of you. The back of my legs are burned today, but up until now, no burn :) Found lots of shark's teeth and a few conch shells.

We have cancelled our trip in Sept. More on that later.

Sorry for your sunburn (I burn easily myself!) and that you had to cancel:sad1:
Okay, I need pixie dust from all of my pickles. We were able to get free airline tickets to and from Orlando so we can still go to Marco Island; we were able to get a car for $280 which was a heck of a lot cheaper than the $400 we were originally looking at (and I've booked the car to hold the price). Now, I was thinking since we're flying in and out of Orlando that maybe we could go to Disney for a couple of days after all. I forgot that we still have a deposit of $585 from our cancelled trip and I have $175 in Disney Rewards--that would take care of the resort and the tickets for two days (we'd do a "resort" day). The CSR is available on the way in, but not on the way home (Mark would rather do at the tail end of the trip because otherwise we would have to drive back from Marco Island to Orlando to catch our flight and leave at an ungodly hour). We planned on food money anyway for Marco so this wouldn't be a big deal.

So keep your fingers crossed this all works out...I'm waiting to hear back from the TA we always use.

Kathy, this is great news! I just read your post before posting mine, so I'm celebrating with you.
:dance3:

Hey Kathy, change your signature!

CSR???? :thumbsup2

Hey Kathy, change your signature!

You are right Janet...I'll have to change my signature. I'll try to do it BEFORE Tracy lands so when she logs on we can see if she notices my new signature.

YES!! That would really jolt her!!

Actually, now I can release my news ....
I am going to Disney in Sept (WITH NO KIDS!) :cool1: Long story short … I am going with my sis and our friend, who has never been to Disney!! Our friend has had a rough year, and I’m so glad she can come. We just decided about a week ago, but I decided not to tell all the pickles until Tracy was situated, not wanting to detract from our pickle president!:)

Because we are going in Sept. I really didn’t want Samantha missing a week of school (Paul cannot miss a week of HS), soooo, I asked her if it would be alright if I go without her, knowing that I promised her a family trip soon, so she said yes! She said, just to bring her back some pins, thank you. I will get a chance to do the Wine & Cheese festival, maybe Halloween (shhh, I won’t tell Samantha), but an adults trip will be so different! I feel guilty :guilty: and elated :yay:at the same time! She says she happy I get to the the "wine" thing!! I have never done a trip before without the kids. I figure this is practice for our girls only trip, it will just get easier with practice right?

Anyway, if you can fit it in (and the timing is right), it would be great to have a DISmeet, would love to meet you in person (and Mark of course!). I will be there from 9/27 to 10/3.

Hey, let's celebrate! I've been bursting to tell everyone!!
:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

I'm so jealous.

Well... only a teeny bit. I'm really happy that all of you are working it out to get a trip in. I am getting mini-trips in to fun places, so I am happy. I am starting to look into my vacation for next year. I'm flip flopping between a week at Disney, a cruise, or a week at an all-inclusive in Jamaica. Either way... it will be a NICE vacation since I'm not going anywhere this year!

Kari....I'm sorry. I'm a selfish **** for being so excited that we were able to get a four day trip in. Please forgive me.

I thought, after the flight number was posted, that becasue Tracy had not posted it, didn't feel I should. When I did the copy & paste, didn't notice I'd copied the flight number too.:upsidedow

You be safe too! I hate being here alone when something like this happens..I do not know a single soul in this "neighborhood" of the subdivision, so if anything were to happen, I'd be alone. Kinda scary.

Any suggestions to stay safe?

That is a great idea about church, Kari! I am Catholic and Catholics can be very cliquish when they've been a member of a Church for a long time. We do not live near the Church, so I only get there for Mass on Sundays and there is no fellowship at Mass, that's for sure! I love being Catholic, but it is all depends on your parish and how friendly/welcoming they are. I tried to join in one things at this one, but all the elderly ladies who called kept telling me how they'd been a member of the parish for 30 yrs, and on and on...not too welcoming.

When we move, Mia and Michael are going to find a home where I can get around on my own. I want to join a Tai Chi class, and a dance class but cannot from her. Guess I could try one of the Elder-hostel groups. but even those tend to be expensive.

Heather, that's so true about WL; I thought of it too - a balcony to relax and all inside..but of course it is more costly...and besides, I'd never go completely alone.

At first I was thinking it would be a great time to try FQ,esp for 3 ngts, but with the new rooms at CSR it would be great for you to enjoy while the rooms are nice and fresh! I am so happy for you and Mark!!!!:dance3::woohoo: :yay: :dance3: :woohoo: :yay: :woohoo::dance3: :woohoo:

P.S. Does my avatar look familiar? It was in honor of Tracy, but now for you too! (I'll go back to rainbows soon).

Oh, finally!! I was hoping you might share your news today! :woohoo: I am so happy for you, Janet - it is going to be loads of fun!

I've been able to share the excitement for a few days...and I must say, I am rather proud of myself for keeping a couple of pickle secrets. I get so excited and it;s hard to keep a secret, but one down and one to go!!

It's way more fun this way too. :)

Ok, Kathy and Janet -time for countdowns , please!!!!:woohoo: :dance3: :yay:

Kari, I feel bad for everyone who wants to go, can't this year:sad1: One reason why I haven't posted about my trip until now. All those trips you mentioned for next year, sound wonderful!

Kathy, I just re-read your detail about the trip ... you are going to Disney at the beginning of your trip (I think you start the 19th?) so a DiSmeet is out since I don't arrive until 9/27.:sad1:

Kari, I am sorry too..but it is fun to share with those who did get to go..and we'll be delighted when you start planning YOUR trip, no matter where...I want to know everything, right from the beginning..so include us, please, my friend!!

Janet - for some reason your dates did not click - when I was considering a Fall trip for free dining it was the end of Sept/early October., A group of Disers are going then (Girls only, 3rd annual..but I've not been with them before)..anyway, decided not to go because it is so hot that time of year.

Darn could have had a mini Pickles Meet!!

What awesome news, Janet. You are going to LOVE an adults only trip. As much fun as it is with the kids, it is a totally different one without them.

It was in homnor of Tracy, but now for you too! (I'll go back to rainbows soon).

I thought of POFQ...but I really wanted to see the new rooms at CSR up close and personal. Yes, LOVE the avatar.

I can't wait until the "last" surprise is out of the bag! :yay::yay::yay::yay:

Kari, I feel bad for everyone who wants to go, can't this year:sad1: One reason why I haven't posted about my trip until now.

I was TOTALLY kidding about being jealous! I am excited that all of you are getting vacation. We do mini vacations, which we love, so I have lots to look forward to. We live 2 1/2 hours from the beach, and 3 1/2 from the mountains, so we do get to go for weekends fairly easily. And I am really excited about going on our family trip in a few weeks... my BIL and SIL are lots of fun, and we will go tubing, visit Carowinds, maybe go to the mountains to hike or something... it will be lots of fun. Sorry you thought I was serious! :grouphug:

I thought, after the flight number was posted, that becasue Tracy had not posted it, didn't feel I should. When I did the copy & paste, didn't notice I'd copied the flight number too.:upsidedow

Gotcha! I just couldn't figure out why flight numbers needed to be a secret. In my mind... once airline, departure point and time, and arrival point and time are out there, then flight number takes only a second to find. :confused3 I didn't know if there was a reason that I was totally unaware of! We haven't flown anywhere in 12 years! Kinda depressing when you think about it. But everywhere we have chosen to vacation has been within driving distance since the kids were born.

You be safe too! I hate being here alone when something like this happens. Any suggestions to stay safe?

Just stay in the lower level in an interior room (no windows if possible.) If you don't have a room like that, and you do get a tornado warning, then the bathtub or under the couch (flip it over first!) ;) are the best places to hide from flying debris and such. Basement if ya got it! Keep in mind that in NC, when the predict it very early in the day like this, they are just telling you that it is a possibliity. Many times it never amounts to much. Severe thunderstorm and tornado watches are pretty common during the summer and early fall, as the heat of day thunder storms can be awfully violent sometimes. (I know you figured that out already.) If you get one of those, watch your local news channel to see where it is tracking. We have many times seen them pass within 5 miles of our house, but not have anything more than a regular thunderstorm. Several weeks ago I was watching one on the news... it passed through downtown Raleigh heading east. I had to call Wynn and tell him not to leave work as the tornado was spotted by sheriff deputies, and was right where he would be driving home. Then I called him back afterwards to tell him which roads were closed due to downed trees and flooding, so he could get home. NC is a pain in the butt some days... but you'll get used to it!

That is a great idea about church, Kari! I am Catholic and Catholics can be very cliquish when they've been a member of a Church for a long time. When we move, Mia and Michael are going to find a home where I can get around on my own. I want to join a Tai Chi class, and a dance class but cannot from her. Guess I could try one of the Elder-hostel groups. but even those tend to be expensive.

So is the move a done deal? I knew there was a possibility, but not that they were definitely moving.

As for the church... what about joining a small group there? Our church has several different ministries that are smaller groups... quilting, gardening, etc. You could also look into a senior sunday school class. Or for that matter, your local senior center may have a group you could join.

Another suggestion would be to join another church while you are in NC (blasphemy!) if you are not comfortable in the Catholic church there. I am Lutheran, and you would be amazed at the similarities in the service. And if you could find one within walking distance... all the better!

P.S. Does my avatar look familiar? It was in homnor of Tracy, but now for you too! (I'll go back to rainbows soon).

Kar - I knew you were kidding, still just sad when others want to go to Disney, that can't this year. Your mini-vacations sounds great - sometimes they are the best, as they are usually closer to home and more trips to look forward to - instead of one big one:)

Last summer I took the pups and we went into the teeny laundry room....the puos looked at me like I was nuts -there is barely enough room for one person to sit on the floor, but I took a couple of couch pillows and made us comfy as possible..sat with the door open and couch moved waay near the door so I could see the TV...funny, called my friend in Boston to tell her a tornado warning was up (the darn tornado was very, very near), then I forgot to call her back later to say we were safe. :confused3

So is the move a done deal? I knew there was a possibility, but not that they were definitely moving.

Oh, no, sorry that was not clear - move is not definite yet, just meant when it happens (if Michael gets job at the Amex card center in G'boro, then eventually we'll move where I can get around on my own). If he gets a job elsewhere, then we move there...he might check out Carlson Wagonlit in the Raleigh/Durham area that would be a nice move -other than the weather. ;)

As for the church... what about joining a small group there? Our church has several different ministries that are smaller groups... quilting, gardening, etc. You could also look into a senior Sunday school class. Or for that matter, your local senior center may have a group you could join.

Catholic churches do not tend to have those kinds of smaller groups - would be rare. I am too far to get to anything anyway...no buses and I don't drive..no sidewalks either. I'm pretty well trapped. Could be worse - I could not have such a loving daughter and darling grandbaby!

That is a thought about another church, Kari...Lutheran's and Methodists (or is it Presbyterians?) are so much like Catholic - makes sense since the founders all left the Catholic Church to found a new church. I am a cradle Catholic, former nun...but have attended Mass by a former priest and Mia was married by a former priest b/c (unless you have money, celebrity or connections) Catholics are not allowed to have an outside wedding ceremony. I love being Catholic, but it's hard at times.

:) My answers are in bold font - color is not working for me again.:confused3

It's getting very windy here, Kari, but sun is still shining strong.
