Picking up package tickets early at resort? Anyone do this lately?

I asked on here and read in many places that you can pick up your park tickets before your package starts. Two different CMs just told me that this absolutely will not be allowed.

Here's my deal:

Room only at AKL on 8/23 and 8/24

Checking back in on 8/25-8/30 to get the free dining. Bought a 8 day park hopper ticket.

Planned on picking up park tickets when we check in for the room only on 8/23. I'm reading on here that it's allowed. The CMs say absolutely NO! Has anyone done this recently without issue? I'll lose my mind if I get there and have to buy 2 day park tickets for us. It will knock out most of the savings we are getting from free dining.

If you can still do this, are they cranky about it or is it a normal procedure? Can I get the tickets at the resort or do I have to get them at the first park we go to? I'm afraid this is going to turn into a huge hassle on day one our trip!

You can pick up your tickets up to 3 days before your package starts, but you can only do so at a Guest Relations location either outside the park entrance or at DTD, not at your resort.

And I can use them with no problem 3 days before my package starts? These CMs have me so nervous and rethinking the whole plan now. It's 5 months away and now I have a knot in my stomach!

NOT SO. We attempted to pick up our park tickets early @ Guest Relations in DTD - they were not able to accomodate us. We had to go the the concierge desk @ the resort and they did it for us no probelm. This was about 4 weeks ago.

We had no issues at all - they issued us separate KTTW cards that were only good for park entrance. We had to keep our room KTTW separate - but the CM marked them on the back with a permanent marker so we wouldn't get them confused.

Once our Free Dining package started, they issued us new KTTW cards again - so we were able to discard our other 2 KTTW cards (parks entrance and room card).

I have had no problem doing it the last two years; I picked mine up at Guest Relations right at the entrance to the park.

As PP stated, once my package began, I had them transferred over to my KTTW card at the concierge desk.

Yes, you can :).

We got our tickets early on our trip in December 2010, at which time you could only pick them up early at Guest Relations at any park or DTD as getting them at the resort was not an option. We didn't try DTD in 2010 as we went straight to the park and did it there, but maybe since it can be done at the resort now DTD doesn't do it anymore :confused3.

On our trip in December 2010, we were told they couldn't be put on our KTTW cards when we checked in for our package; however, after we checked in for our package and went to a park, our "early" tickets wouldn't work and showed we had upgraded them . After heading to Guest Services, we found out the early tickets were deactivated and the park tickets were on our new KTTW cards. Everything turned out ok, but it was quite a surprise being told at the entrance to DHS that our tickets were not valid. I was glad in the end we only had to carry 1 card, but I wonder if now they have to be kept separate.

We have the same situation. We have never done this before. We have one day room only and pkg with tickets for the next 8 days. Am I reading this right we can actually get into the parks with our tickets before the package starts? I want to make sure I get it right on what to do as DH has no patients unlike the rest of us and it would start the trip off bad. I assumed we could not get into the parks at all. It would be great as EMH are that day til 1am at MK.

We never knew about this before our last trip a few weeks ago. I had purchased a 7 day MYW package even though we only had 6 possible park days available. The CM asked me why I was purchasing 7 days when our dates only allowed for 6 days. I told her I would be requesting them early (during our room only dates) and she only said, "oh, ok". So I also was nervous about requesting it.

Just be aware that if you do request them early, it means 1 less day on your package...meaning you'll then have only 7 days of park tickets remaining if you use 1 of them early. Also, if free dining is attached to your tickets, you'll NOT be permitted to use the dining credits early - just the park entrance

Thanks I will do that. Waiting on the FD is ok with me to be honest I would rather have QS but I wont say no. DD will be happy as that is the late night while we are there.
Thanks again I would never have thought that was possible. I have been alot and still learn something new each timehttp://www.wdwinfo.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Has anyone done this recently (as in the spring of 2013)?

It hasn't changed. Trust me, if it had, you would see it in the ticket sticky on the Theme Park Attractions and Strategies board. (And the ticket sticky is maintained by Cheshire Figment, who works in ticketing.)
