Picking my hotel is driving me nuts :)

I normaly do priceline and get one of the holiday inns for $39 a night. Its always been nice and clean and no problems. But Its not close and I have to take ART.

I am leaving on the 18th (sunday) and I need to pick a hotel. I want one that is close because I don't want to ride the bus. I was really wishing that HoJo would have the ent. rate, but no such luck.
I was looking at just splurging and paying for one of the Disneyland hotels, but then the monorail will be down while we are there.

I have been looking and looking and looking. I can't pick a hotel and its getting too close! Please my amazing friends here help me.
I want one that is close and not gross It will be me, my mom and my DD6.

Desert Inn & Suites is located at the pedestrian entrance on Harbor & its usually priced nicely. Nothing fancy here, but the rooms are clean & spacious.

We've also stayed at the Tropicana, which is not far from the crossing. We loved the tropical theme in the rooms. Standard rooms, so not a ton of room...which is pretty normal in motels.

We've stayed at the Motel 6 which does require ART or be prepared for a bit of a walk. Cheap, clean & always been nice during our visits.

So how far actually of a walk is it? Of course we will have no kids to deal with or anything, just the two of us. Would you say a 15 min walk to the front gates? We just booked Motel 6 for October at $39 a night.

According to Google maps it is .6 miles. Keep in mind that it will feel like 20 after a long day at the parks. We debated about walking or using ART & ended up going with ART. Some days it was hard just walking out to the bus terminals after spending the day at the parks.

We rarely used the Monorail to go into Disneyland, unless it was after we had dinner in DTD.

There's is something magical walking thru the front gates.....at any time of day for us. That gets lost if you ride the Monorail into Tomorrowland. At least it does for us. I would not let this stop you from booking the hotel you want!!

Personally, I wouldn't let the fact that the monorail will be down be a deciding factor. I love the monorail but it always seems to take a long time and it's much faster to walk. I say stay at PP or DLH if that's where you really want to stay and it's in your budget.

We can't justify the cost of staying on site so we stay off site when we go for a "mini" vacation at DLR. We really like Candy Cane Inn because it's close enough to walk (about the same distance as Hojo) but they also have a shuttle if you don't feel like walking. They have free parking and free breakfast - nothing fancy but pretty good for that type of breakfast.

I'd go with one of the Disney hotels anyways, because the Monorail may well not even be working when it's not listed as being down for refurbishment . (I say this as someone who's had the misfortune of being stuck on the Monorail a couple of times, and waiting for the Monorail for a long time only for it to be announced that it's not running properly quite a few times!) If you can get a deal on a Disney hotel, it should work out to being only a little bit more expensive than the non-Disney hotels directly across the street, and a whole lot more magical!

Honestly I do more walking when going to Florida. Couple weeks ago we went to DL and stayed within the art system but just ended up paying the parking fee at the ramp and half the time we just walked it instead of using the tram as the wheelchair ramp was often backed up. Or at least I walked it and she rolled along in her power chair. (I'm also not in the best of shape either)

the monorail being down would only affect me if I was staying DLH--if you are staying at PPH you wouldn't go by the monorail anyway since the best way is to walk across the street to the Grand Californian and use their entrance to either DTD to get to Disneyland or the "secret" entrance into DCA (which you would be entitled to use as a guest of a Disney hotel. What/how many days will you be there? Remember if you are a guest of a Disney hotel you will get Magic Morning on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

I went back and forth a dozen times on where to stay. I about drove my travel agent crazy! However, we decided on Paradise Pier. With the deal we got it wasn't much more than the Good Neighbor hotels I was looking at, plus I really liked the idea of being on property. Good luck and have fun on your trip!

I know onsite would double my budget, but I'm really thinking I'm going to do it. My AP is going to expire next week and I don't think I'm going to get another one for a while and how many trips do you get to take with you 6yr old DD and your mom (who has never stayed at one of the Disney Hotels.)

I will just be working a lot after this.

We leave 5am tomorrow!!!!!!

You mentioned that HOJO does not have the ent. rate but I'm sure it will still be much cheaper than PP or DLH. Plus, you can walk from HOJO, and not bother with any form of transportation!

You can usually get the BWPPI for about $111 a night call them directly tell them you saw this as their online price through like pricline or something. Tell them you didn't really want to put your credit card info online ask if the will match it. They will and that price was for the mini suite. They also have a small breakfast next door at Captain Rons. Nothing fancy.
They are right past the crosswalk. The walk from the crosswalk to any of these hotels is maybe 10 minutes. It is not far at all! We push our stroller with four girls in tow and everyone walk it just fine.

I wouldn't let the monorail influence you unless there are mobility issues. Staying on property cannot be beat. Truly. If you can afford, I say go for it especially if your AP is set to expire- the great rates vanish too.

Iagree. You will have fun if you stay offsite of course, but I love staying onsite. It makes everything more magical.

The DLH is just as close to the front gate as the HoJo. Someone on these boards clocked it, so the walk isn't really an issue without the monorail since you'd be walking from a neighbor hotel anyway! And think of all that Disney magic surrounding you 24/7. I'm not sure the PP is much farther away as you can shortcut through the GC. I say go for it (how easy of me to spend your money!).

I have stayed off-site and on-site and if you can swing it (which you can), on-site is always more magical. Good choice!

I agree - if you are looking for the experience then onsite is much better. But if you are looking to save some serious money you might want to consider Priceline for the area.

We just stayed in the area not too long ago and used Priceline to book our hotel. We got the Crowne Plaza (considered 3.5* on PL) for $39/night. I think the hotel website had it listed for $99/night. One downside is that they charge $12/night for parking but they also had a shuttle to DL so you didn't have to worry about parking at the park.

I just found a new site TripDucky.com which helps you research the best prices you can get when bidding. They also have a cool feature which shows you a calendar with posts of winning bids reported and for which hotels and price that were won. I just did a quick search for the coming week and it looks like quite a few wins in the DL zones. It looks like the 3.5* level hotels are going for around $40 - $50/night.
