So, I plan to bring my Canon 7D. I need help picking a lens because my favorite isn't practical to take (70-300L USM IS II).

To choose from:
50mm 1.8
Tamron 17-50 2.8
Tamron 28-75 2.8

I want to travel light. I have two kids 8 and 4 to keep up with.

I'll tell you my inclination.... stick with the 17-50 because it is probably my sharpest in my experience, but I know I will really miss my long zoom!

Do I rent a lens???

What would you do?

I would take the 17-50mm...that would be a good walk around lens. However, when I go to WDW I love shooting Animal Kingdom so I could never leave my zoom at home. Perhaps you could take your 70-300mm for Animal Kingdom only, and use the 17-50mm remainder of the time?

It all depends on your shooting style. Your 50/1.8 is probably your sharpest and most useful if you want to take dark ride pics, but may not be wide enough in many situations.

The 28-75 could be a nice compromise if you want a mid-range. But you still may find yourself missing wider angles.

The 17-50 is a very nice walk-around focal length. But there may be times you wished you had more reach.

You have several very good lenses, I see no reason to rent.

Personally, I'd keep the 17-50 on the camera. The 50/1.8 in my pocket. And the 70-300 in the hotel room, bringing it out for Animal Kingdom safari.

Take everything and leave what you don't need each day in the hotel room. Because the moment you leave something at home is when you'll need it.

I just got back from a 5 day trip.

I have a EOS 7D like yourself.
The lenses I have are

Canon 50mm f/1.8
Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8
Canon 70-300mm f/4-5.6 USM IS

I used the 17-50mm most of the time, and brought out the 70-300mm USM IS for Animal Kingdom mostly. (Did some other playing around with telephoto effect in other parks as well.

So if I could only take one, it'd be the 17-50mm, but I'd bring 'em all, and leave the not used ones in the room.

Take this lens for sure: 17-50 2.8

you need the wide the most. Then take the 50mm and 70-300 as the above post mentions if you think you might need them. But take the 17-50 for sure...

Thanks everyone.... the 17-50 stayed on my camera 99% of the time.

I did bring my big heavy 70-300mm, but I rarely used it. Especially with chasing kids....detail shots weren't happening.
