Calling all Pick-A-Pearl fanatics! :yay:

I'm wanting to do this for the first time in December, and I ~really~ want to have my pearl set into a ring setting. Silver or white gold, depending on how much spending money I manage to scrounge up. :rotfl:

The thing is though that I have problems buying rings just anywhere. I'm a tall, large-framed gal. (At 6'0'' and wearing a size 13 shoe. :scared1: Good thing I found me a 6'3'' man! )

As such, I also have large fingers, and wear a size 12 on my ring finger. Should I even bother getting my hopes up that I'll be able to have my pearl set there into a ring that I can actually wear? :confused3  :sad2:

I don't know how high the sizes go, but I would recommend bringing the pearl home to your local jeweler. Yeah, you don't have the almost-instant gratification of bringing home your pearl ready to wear, but your local jeweler may also have a setting you really, realy love, as opposed to "this is the best of the ones they have".

I have large fingers too...unfortunately (as of my last trip) the rings only go up to size 10. Luckily, that was able to fit me. Hopefully it has changed, as I did see another woman looking for an 11 when I was there. Good luck!

Yeah, I've thought about that option, too. I think if it came down to that, though, I would just get a necklace. We're going to be doing this on my birthday, and it just won't feel the same carrying my pearl home in a baggie. :rotfl:

Doh! :headache: This is exactly what I was afraid of. I knew it was a long shot, but I thought I'd ask. Thank you for the information! :thumbsup2

So...what I'm wondering is...if you saw a ring setting you like, could you have the band sized up without ruining the integrity of the design?

You probably could, long as it was a simple setting. I have a gorgeous diamond ring from Marks & Morgans a few years back. It was a size 8 in the store, and they were able to enlarge it to 13. The band itself was a fairly simple, white gold. The setting is elaborate, but not too wide and doesn't travel too far down or across the band itself, so they were able to size it up for me without problem. I just don't want to have to go through all that with my pick-a-pearl ring, should I get one. :headache:

I know what you mean. I've had to have rings re-sized too, but I just thought if worse came to worst and you saw a setting you reallyreallyreally liked it might be an option. As an aside I chose a ring setting this year as well - plain sterling silver and it's gorgeous. The pearl I picked was a white one, so it looks pretty cool. No detailing the band at all, very plain and simple. Good luck, it ain't gonna be easy!!;)

I do not really know the answer, but I think rings were available in men sizes as well. Also it is better to have a right size or have it sized before setting a pearl, pearl is considered fragile and heat may damage it, while there is usually no problem sizing diamonds rings, emeralds and pearls are sensitive, I wanted to make 2 rings out of emerald earings and was refused because of stone can break during the process. also I agree to bring pearl back with you and find design you will really love.
