I did pick a pearl as a special treat when my husband and I went down for our 10yr anniversary. I picked the ugliest one hidden in the corner and got twin pearls the same size! I made them into earrings and wear them daily to remind of that fun trip. I would recommend it unless you don't like being on the spotlight
The experience and "show" in the Japan pavilion is much better than DTD. I have done it several times and have lucked out and picked an oyster that produced twin pearls.
We were there on Sunday and a woman picked two oysters, both produced twin pearls ... Pretty cool to see that. I am not sure how often that actually happens.
Where in Japan is the Pick-a-pearl experience. We have never really explored the WS in depth (something we definitely plan to do this trip), but I have never seen where you do this in Japan

Thank you for posting this. For the ones on the right side of the photo (looks like they are cages for the pearl rather than mounts), those prices seem very reasonable. Do they include the chains that they are on? The other displays don't have chains so I'm assuming those prices don't include the chain, but the ones on the right are on chains so I wanted to check.

My WDW trip this past February was in celebration of my 50th birthday. I picked a pearl and figured I'd just get a Cinderella carriage cage for it online, but when I saw the cage in the store, we all agreed it would have hidden the pearl instead of enhanced it.
My sister then surprised me with the setting for a necklace, so I picked this for my pearl. I already had a chain at home, so this was just the pendant setting, but I think my sister paid nearly $100 for it (it's 14k gold).
