No, they wouldn't do it in the past. They will only set in items purchased in their shop.

No. If you are going to purchase something ahead of time, you will need to get one of the cage settings so that you can just pop the pearl in it.

I purchased a lotus cage from Amazon. I took it with me last week. I picked a pearl (got a silver/blue one!). I walked out with the pearl on my necklace. Good luck!
