Pick a pearl at Epcot?

I was wondering how long of a wait is it usually to do pick a pearl at Epcot? Also is it available to do all day at Japan?

I don't know if it's available all day. I'm sure it is! When we went we were given a number and we waited our turn. We probably waited about 20 min. or so. I would guess the pearl lady spends about 5- 7 min with each guest. It was fun! I would recommend the experience

I have found that earlier in the day, maybe 11-1, tends to have shorter lines, and later in the afternoon tends to have longer lines. A 20 minute or so wait (and I've waiting longer than that) isn't a big deal, because you can scout out your oyster (ugliest, hairiest oyster is the one to pick-I've gotten twins twice, 2 silvers, a champagne and a couple bigger ones over the years.), watch other people picking their pearls or look over the settings.

Once you pick your pearl, if you want them to put it in a setting, that will take more time. You will have to go back and pick it up.

the cost is i think 16 or 17 dollars. I think i had a wait of maybe 30 minutes??

The cost of a setting/cage is what will cost you the most. They range in price, but I would say average would be $50. A lot of people will purchase something from Ebay before they travel to WDW. That will save some money.

I have this memory of standing around waiting for our turn, only to realize that you had to take a number. I might be wrong about that, but I think that mistake on my part added a bit of waiting time on to the experience (which was great, by the way). My son picked a golden pearl that was a full 8mm! We just took the pearl without having it set and got our own off of ebay, which saved both time and money.

I did this in August. It cost around $17. The cashier gave me a number when she rang my payment through. I waited no more than 20 minutes. It was fun!

I think I remember it taking 1-2 hours for the setting so you have to come back to pick it up (if you want it set in jewelry).

I watched the epcot pick a peral a few weekends ago and people did indeed have number cards.

Keep in mind when buying cages ahead that if you get lucky ang get a larger Pearl (like my mom, my sister and I all did) most of the cages (especially the very popular Cinderella Carriage one) are only good up to about 6mm. We had some trouble finding cages that fit our larger pearls.

You're right about this! I made sure to buy a cage from ebay that specifically stated that it could hold a pearl up to 10mm. I was worried it would be too big, but we lucked out with our 8mm and it was perfect.

It is available from the time World Showcase opens. It was only about 20 minutes for me from the time I paid for my pearl and my number was called for them to open it. I did pick out what one I wanted in advance while I was waiting so I knew what to point them to - mine has a pretty silver tint to it and it is 6 3/4".

It took 2 hours for them to mount it in my chosen setting. This was on Friday, April 24, 2015.

This all great info. Thank you. I really want to take my daughter to do it. We are staying right next to Epcot so it easy for me to go back and get it later if I decide to put it in a setting.

That's the one I mentioned. It's readily available on eBay or etsy for about $4.00.

The cages just hinge open and closed. They're held together by the chain running through the two halves.

Oh wow! Thank you!! I think my girls and MIL would love this! Now I need to stop reading these boards bc I keep finding more and more stuff that sounds way too cool to pass up on our trip!!!

We do it every trip. It is DD's forever keepsake (and the last trip I decided to do it for myself too!) It costs $15.95, and comes out to right at $17.00 with tax. You go to the register and pay for the oyster/pearl and then they give you a number. (We made that same mistake the first time, of standing around not knowing what to do). The settings range from about $8 to hundreds of dollars. It is cheaper to buy the Cinderella cage, or a different pearl cage and take it with you, but know that if you wind up finding a really big pearl, it might not fit in the cage. DD got a really big one once, and it did not fit in the cage she wanted for it.
