It will be Me, My DW, 14 yr old DS, 9 yr old DD and 1 yr old DS. We were originally booked at the CR w/ MK View Room, but due to unforseen circumstances, have been forced to downgrade to a moderate.

Please pick a Moderate that'll make us forget that we had a MK View Room at the CR!

Also, please explain why you chose it!

CBR

Cause it is the first place we ever stayed at WDW - and it still holds special memories!

We like CBR! Check out my pictures below. (CBR's main pool will be closed from January 2008 till June 2008. I think these are the dates.) My kids love CBR too! Great Tropical Atmosphere! I just can't say enough!

CBR is my favorite moderate. The grounds are lovely, and gives you that tropical feeling. With the recent success of the Pirates movie franchise, too, there is a lot of that merchandise around the resort (as well as a kids' pirate cruise expedition), and there are rumors that they will be retheming some of the rooms to reflect this.

CBR has the largest rooms of the moderates, which would be nice for your family to spread out in. There are quiet pools in every village, hammocks along the beaches, boat rentals, hair braiding by the main pool for your daughter, etc.

It really probably does depend on your family's style. Some people don't like the beach-y theming. I personally have no interest in ever staying at another moderate, CSR, because I just do not like the Southwest theme to the resort. But it has a lot of fans here, as well.

My 2nd choice would be POR. You have access to all the quiet pools, as well as the POR main pool, and the main pool at POFQ. They also have cane pole fishing, and surrey bike rentals. There's a boat to DTD.

Good luck with your decision - I'm sure you will still have a fabulous trip, and that CR MK Tower will be there for the next go-round. (Plus, the resort is undergoing a lot of construction to the public areas right now, so if you put it off, you can go for the first time when all of that is done.)

We are in the SAME situation...We were blessed to stay at the Poly the last 3 vacations but this year we hit some financial speedbumps, so even with the free dining the Poly was not in the budget. :sad2:
We did lots of research and reading and we choose Coronado Springs. Our son is autistic and the monorail access on the Poly was a blessing. After reading many many reviews we decided the CSR seems to have the best bus service as they don't share with any other resorts. Transportation is critical for us as we leave the parks everyday for a swim and rest. We also love the pool/playground area for our kids. And the Pepper Market looks like it will be great for our family on the dining plan.
Yes, we are sad that we are not staying at the deluxe. :sad1: But I consider us blessed that we are able to go to Disney this year. No matter which resort we stay at, my kids will still squeal with delight on Splash Mountain, ride wide eyed through Small World a painful dozen or so times... giggle their way through Goofys Barnstormer...I will still get goosebumps when we rise up onto the savana on the safari and that music starts playing...well you get the idea! :thumbsup2 And we are truly excited about trying a new resort!

POFQ because it is a more compact resort to schlep around with a bunch of kids and the main pool is pretty neat with a dragon whose tongue is a water slide.

Stayed there when my goddaughter was about 4 years old and we had to pry her out of that pool.

CSR! Best pool, food, and transportation! :thumbsup2 Check out my CSR website below.

I voted for POFQ. It is a wonderful resort and with your children everything is very close and easy to get to. CBR is so big it has it's own internal bus line. I have heard that Coronado is more of a convention location and isn't that much fun for families. POR is too big also...four bus stops. So POFQ all the way!
Have fun! And let us know which you decide to stay at.

CBR is the only mod that we have stayed at. It is a big resort, but it is a very nice resort. We found that it was not that far of a walk to get anywhere on the resort. The bus service is not shared, we waited no more than 10 minutes for a bus, and most times our wait was less than 5 minutes. Food court was good and not overly busy. The main pool was busy, however our quiet pool seemed like it was hardly ever used. The resort was very clean and mouse keeping was excellent.

I would be torn between CSR & POFQ.

We too may down grade to a moderate from a deluxe.
We have been WL, CR and the Dolphin resorts.

But our best choice would be CSR because of the pool slide and the best bus transportation. Other than that - we find all moderates about the same.

One reason not to stay at CBR - no elevators and you may have a long walk to the main pool and food count.

POR - just seems to spread out and is the 2nd bus stop. The bus 1st picks up at PORFQ. They share buses

CSR - has elevators, best A/C room system, a very large pool and quiet pools for each area.
The food court has a wide variet of food - better than the CR food & fun center. The pool has a 123' silide - better than CR's lame water slide.
At night the lights make the lake look dreamy.

POFQ - has elevators, 2 sinks, nice ambience of Port Orleans Disney style, the pool slide is the tounge of a sea serpent. Our teens dislike it's looks. Maybe your kids will like it. There are no quiet pools to cool off in. http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/Resorts/port.htm#rec

Tough choice. Good Luck ! :goodvibes

lovelovelovelove POR mansion section. The grounds are so lushly landscaped. Loved the surrey bikes & fishing, sitting on the benches along the shady pathways watching the horse-drawn carriages clopp-clopping past, looking at the weeping willows draped over the rustic wooden bridges. Our kids were fascinated w/ the water wheel.

The buses did sometimes arrive mostly full after p/u at the POFQ, but you can hop on the ferry and take a 2-minute ride down the Sassagoula River to the POFQ and get on the bus there (although I'm not sure what time the ferry begins running in the morning).

POR is my vote. I did the same thing this past October. It was a great experience. I would request the Mansion side if you can, just because it is closer.

Really, to make your decision easier, here are my votes for all of them:

CBR is a large, family-oriented resort. It's nice, but it is very kid friendly in all elements I've found.

POFQ - It is smaller, but you have the benefit of water travel to DTD and it is close to the parks. Its themeing is not as secluded and "elegant" as POR. The pool is top notch, though. Lots of fun for the kids.

POR - It is the most relaxing of the four, IMHO. It is beautiful on the grounds, and it really feels like a retreat fromt he parks. It was a wonderful stay.

CS - Beautiful resort, but it feels more adult.

If you want to avoid long walks, go with POFQ. Otherwise, take your pick. I really think you will be pleasantly surprised by all four.

I vote POFQ, we stayed there for the first time last week over the 4th and LOVED IT! Even though the resort was booked solid we felt like we were the only ones there, it was so quiet and beautiful!

My family loves CSR. It is such a beautiful resort! The transportation is wonderful. We never saw a full bus the entire week we were there. A lot of times we were the only ones on it!

The Dig Site is a great place for kids. My DS4 had fun on the playground and digging in the sandbox. The pool and slide are amazing! There is also a small kiddie pool which DD1 loved.

Although a lot of people don't like the Pepper Market, we think it's great. If you are on the dining plan it is a terrific value. They have a great selection of food, something for everybody (although I wish they had a few more selections for kids).

Have a great trip!

I've stayed at CBR and POR and really liked them both.

Where do you live? What kind of theme would appeal to you more? If you live in the southwest, then maybe you'd be looking for something different. If you already live in the warm south, maybe you'd want something different as well. That's why I asked where you live! :)

I love CBR because of the beautiful, colorful, tropical buildings, white sandy beaches with hammocks, and overall feel of the resort. I love POR because it reminds me of my favorite part of my favorite WDW park which is Adventureland, Frontierland, and Liberty Square in the Magic Kingdom.

We usually stay at deluxe resorts but I stayed at POR this past May and LOVED it and except for location, I didn't feel like it was a huge "downgrade". Then again, I'm the type of person who looks for the good in things, not the bad :sunny:

I have pictures of all my of resort stays on my web site. The link is below; just click on the "WDW Vacations" section, and enjoy :)

I voted for POFQ
We've stayed there twice. I like the compact size of the resort. Easy to get to pool, foodcourt bus stop etc. It's a very quaint resort.
We have stayed at Caribbean Beach Resort and though I love the theming I found it too big and spread out.
I've always wanted to try Coronado Springs but they only have one sink in their bathrooms. And 4 people trying to get ready in the morning is tough with one sink. Plus Coronado is also like CBR very large and spread out.
Good luck in deciding!

They all have pluses an minuses.....

What time of year are you going.....
Do you plan to spend a lot of time at the resort....
Some comments I have read about the mods...

Pros....CBR...
Biggest rooms with 5 of you.....that might be the best....
Beautiful landscaping....like the carribean feel....
Cons....very large.....oldest mod

CSR....Pros....
Great pool for your older kids....best pool slide of mods...
Full Service Spa....only mod with it....
very pretty.....
Cons...Very large....some feel they don't feel the disney magic .....

POR...Pros.... beautiful landscaping....Some rooms have trundle sleeps 5....
boat to DTD....fun pool....share amenities with POFQ....
Cons...also large....buses get filled from pofq 1st stop....

POFQ....Pros...SMALL.....I can't emphasize enough.....In the heat
of summer....this place rocks....every room is close to everything.....
Very fun pool for little ones......(slide is way to pansy for your
older kids though)....share amenities with POR...
1ST ON AND OFF BUS....

OK I have only stayed at POFQ in the mod's.....
But I do want to try them all....
Kerri

I picked CBR, even though I haven't stayed there yet. There's no "local" theming among the Moderates, given that I live in New England; I've stayed at POR and at CSR - POFQ doesn't interest me; I like the theming of CBR.
