I voted for CSR because it seems more like a deluxe than do the other 3 moderates. Your older children will love main the pool (longest slide of all WDW resorts). You will love that there is room service - if you get stuck in your room with a sleeping little one as I did. The golf carts to carry you to your building also are very helpful when you have tired children (and even adults!) along.

My second recommendation would be POFQ because this resort is so small. Everything is within just a very short walk. The boat to DTD is a big draw for us.

My vote goes to POR and the Bayou section.
Mainly I chose this one because of the trundle beds... if your 14 yr old DS doesn't want to sleep with his 9 year old sister, she could have the trundle bed and they would each have their own space that way. :)
Plus, being a sister resort to POFQ, you would still get to use all of its amenities too, like the cool dragon-tongue water slide.

personally i like port orleans riverside - bayou section. my family used to stay there when it was dixie landings and loved it. i think the best thing about it is that it's extremely lush and green. i also love that it's right on the river.

Have stayed at POR and POFQ. We really liked both but are staying again in Sept. at POFQ as it works great for our family. We have DS6 and DD3. Everything just takes a minute to get to. We were able to check in at 9:00am with no wait, luggage very prompt to be delivered along with Pack and Play, Bus service quick and easy, food court was never crowded and kids always got Mardi Gras beads and coins from the CM's which they loved, rooms clean and pool/slide was so much fun for the kids. POR was nice to but just like the compact feel of FQ so that will always be our moderate home away from home.

Our 1st onsite WDW Resort Stay was at CSR
and we loved it.
We found the Pool area Wonderful for all ages.
The Rest of the Resort was very beautiful,
my DS and I walk the whole resort every morning
and it was fun to see the different themed sections.
We stayed in Cabanas because I wanted a tropical
setting and it lived up to our dreams.
We found the Pepper Market food to be very good
and with a large variety,
We all found something that we liked on the menu
and the CM were very nice.
Once I had to wait on my order to be made and the
CM told me to go aheah and sit down and he would
bring it out to me, how nice!!:thumbsup2

They all have pluses an minuses.....

What time of year are you going.....
Do you plan to spend a lot of time at the resort....

Some comments I have read about the mods...

Pros....CBR...
Biggest rooms with 5 of you.....that might be the best....
Beautiful landscaping....like the carribean feel....
Cons....very large.....oldest mod

CSR....Pros....
Great pool for your older kids....best pool slide of mods...
Full Service Spa....only mod with it....
very pretty.....
Cons...Very large....some feel they don't feel the disney magic .....

POR...Pros.... beautiful landscaping....Some rooms have trundle sleeps 5....
boat to DTD....fun pool....share amenities with POFQ....
Cons...also large....buses get filled from pofq 1st stop....

POFQ....Pros...SMALL.....I can't emphasize enough.....In the heat
of summer....this place rocks....every room is close to everything.....
Very fun pool for little ones......(slide is way to pansy for your
older kids though)....share amenities with POR...
1ST ON AND OFF BUS....

OK I have only stayed at POFQ in the mod's.....
But I do want to try them all....

We're arriving on MLK Day to avoid that weekend rush. We're looking at January 21 - 28 of 2008. Based on my research, this seems to be the best time to go for cool weather and low crowds :thumbsup2 .

We'll be at the parks most of the time, but do plan on taking one day to mostly enjoy the resort.

I chose POFQ. It is my favorite Moderate resort. I love the size of the resort, the themeing, the fact that although it shares buses with POR it is the first stop in the morning so there are always seats, and it is the first stop in the evening so you get home quicker when you are tired.
I love the size of the resort, it is not too big. The Food Court and the Pool are both
Have a Fun trip

Although I voted CBR (and still ove it) I change my vote to CSR because your older kids will have more fun on the slide at the main pool at CSR.

We stayed at CBR over Christmas 2006, and I can't say enough good things about this resort! The theming, Christmas Carols on steel drums, the wonderful CM's....I wanna go back!

Okay....

No on Caribbean.. It is very pretty and tropical, but too spread out and too many bus stops.

I have never stayed on the French Quarter Side of Port Orleans, but I hear the pool has an awesome slide...so the kid would love that

No on Coronado Springs....Terrible policy in food court where you have to pay some sort of fee to eat there, as someone seats you and brings you your food....crazy:confused3
Also, seems to convention like to me.....lot of business conventions going on...

A BIG YES ON PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE!!!

My DH and I stayed there on our honeymoon and it is gorgeous...I think prettier than some of the deluxes for sure.

Tons of activiteis...rooms are beautiful....never got to stay in the mansion side, but the bayou side is so homey and rustic....love it!!!!!

Bob Jackson, a piano man plays a couple nights a week in the lounge and he is hilarious...he gets the whole crowde involved and even your kids would have a blast there..sing alongs, dancing up on stage...:rotfl2:
SO, my vote is PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE FOR SURE!!!!

Whatever you decide, have a magical Trip!!! :wizard:

I think you'll have a fantastic time no matter which resort you stay at! I was going to tell you POR because it's the only mod that allows 5 in a room but then saw that you have a 1 yr old and believe all resorts allow a little one in a pack-n-play. I've only stayed at POR [once when it was Dixie Landings!] but after reading TONS of reviews am looking forward to CSR for our trip next year! Personally, I think they all look great and would love to try them all!

WOW! Thanks everyone for the responses, you've really given my wife and I a lot of information to digest.

By all means, please keep the input coming, I'll be calling Disney tomorrow to book :cool1: .

I really feel this resort is perfect in many ways

1. The Pool
2. The grounds
3. The general theme
4. The pepper market ... wide variety
5. Very Clean

We really had the best time at this resort .... I would tell everyone I know to stay here... I never felt like I was downgrading here .. it really has a wonderful vibe... have a great trip ::goodvibes

There thats my 2 cents, ha!

POFQ is the best mod in WDW the atmosphere is the best in my opinion and the food is really good in their food court, not to mention the pool is pretty cool as well.

I voted for POR - it's where we're headed in just 39 days (woo-hoo!).

But now that I know that you are travelling in January I would also say that CSR is a great choice. I went there with my daughter last June, and the only reason I'm changing resorts this time (other than just to try a new one I mean!) is that the Southwest theme seems a little "hot" for me in August. However, in January I would probably go back there.

The pool was awesome, the busses were great, and we loved Pepper Market (people either love it or they hate it). I wasn't overwhelmed with the room decor, but who really cares - all you do in there is sleep anyway! Have a great trip wherever you end up.

Okay everyone, I've read all of your replies in this thread, as well as replies from other threads about the moderate resorts. I've made a little comparison sheet based off of what most everyone's opinion seems to be about the moderates. I'd like all of you to see it so that you know what I'm looking at when I make my final decision!

The comparison below is basically a ranking of different categories for each resort. If a resort ranks 1st in a category it gets 3 points, 2nd 2 points, 3rd 1 point and 4th 0 points. If two resorts tie a category, they basically split the points from the ranking, and the resort behind them will take the next available ranking. So, for example, if the CSR and POFQ was to tie for 1st in a category, then they'd each recieve 1.5 points, while the next resort would get 1 point for 3rd. No resort would recieve points for second since those two resorts are tied for 1st. Okay, here goes! Keep in mind that these scores are only my opinions based off of what I've read and researched, and are based on my circumstances of traveling with a family with an infant.

Transportation - This is really a tough one based on what everyone has said about each resort. I would definitely have to say that POR comes in last due to it being the last on last off share partner of POFQ. CBR and CSR would be tied for 1st due to them each not sharing a bus, but because most say that it is the most conveniently located of the moderates, it'll have to get the edge. I will say that POFQ and CSR will be tied for second because although POFQ shares a bus, it is 1st on and 1st off, and you add that to the fact that you can take a Boat to DD, and that's a big plus for my family.
1st - CBR(3)
Tie 2nd - POFQ(1) and CSR(1)
4th - POR(0)

Theming/Beauty - Now I know this is a matter of opinion as with most of these categories, but I still wanted to rate this based on my research, your opinions and my own opinions. Hands down POR and CSR are tied for 1st. Most reviewers rave about the themes of these two in their reviews. I'll rate CBR second. Although some people really like it's theming, too many people call it a cheaper rip-off of the Poly! POFQ is out of luck because people don't mention it's theming as much as the other 3.
1st - CSR(2.5) and POR(1.5)
3rd - CBR(4)
4th - POFQ(1)

Overall Convenience - This is a easy one. Combine POFQ's small size, with it's 1st on 1st off bus scheme and the boat to DD, and you have a 1 punch knock-out. 2nd would be CBR because of location alone, followed by POR. Unfortunately, CSR comes in last on this one due to it's size combined with the fact that it's considered by many, a popular convention Resort!
1st - POFQ(4)
2nd- CBR(6)
3rd - POR(2.5)
4th - CSR(2.5)

Peacefulness/Relaxation - Again, due to POFQ's size, this is a no brainer.
1st - POFQ(7)
2nd- POR(4.5)
3rd - CBR(7)
4th - CSR(2.5)

Amenities - Being that the CSR is borderline deluxe, and most people say that it was originally built with the idea that it would be a deluxe, this is easy. Everything else will remained unranked due to the fact that they're pretty much all the same in this category.
1st - CSR(5.5)
POFQ(7)
POR(4.5)
CBR(7)

The Leader of this Poll - Speaks for itself
1st - CSR(8.5)
2nd- POR(6.5)
3rd - POFQ(8)
4th - CBR(7)

Total
1st - CSR(8.5)
2nd- POFQ(8)
3rd - CBR(7)
4th - POR(6.5)

Sorry, I know most of this was long, but feel free to chime in on what you think if you have time to read it :lmao: .

We stayed at POFQ and really liked it. It was a smaller resort, nice theming, first on the bus route.

I voted CSR because it makes me feel like I've been transported elsewhere the most. And I think it is the prettiest.

However, on another day I might have picked CBR. I like the colors and the theme there, too. And they don't charge a ridiculous fee to eat in the food court.

I don't care for the Orleans Resorts. They aren't bad, they just aren't my thing. Not a fan of New Orleans. I stayed there and it didn't bug me as much as I thought it would, but I won't be returning. But, that's me.

I don't ride the bus. If that is a concern for you, I'm sure others will (and possibly have - I didn't read the thread) discuss that and you can make your decisions there. That said...

I really think, as always, that you should pick the theme you like best and go there.

CBR has the largest rooms and since there is 5 of you that might work best

I really feel this resort is perfect in many ways

1. The Pool
2. The grounds
3. The general theme
4. The pepper market ... wide variety
5. Very Clean

We really had the best time at this resort .... I would tell everyone I know to stay here... I never felt like I was downgrading here .. it really has a wonderful vibe... have a great trip ::goodvibes

There thats my 2 cents, ha!
