I know someone said it would be back but it is. Its the same djs from before but what i dont get is what do they say nothing. That whole thing was to get ppl to go to the clubs so what do they say. I dont know but will see what happens.

Guess I don't see any point to that. I am guessing they just want to take off the morgue edge from PI. Glad DJs have some of their job back. But I can't see this really makes a difference from a guest perspective.
I think it will make the PI atmosphere seem even more odd and emphasize what is not in that area.

I thought I read somewhere that besides music they would be doing "commercials" for stores and restaurants in DTD.

Haven't been back from the first night, but instead of videos, they would show non-video ads for Raglan, Fuego, Curl, possibly other places, with more pop and Disney music* playing. The closest analogy I can think of is the slides in the movie theater before the previews start. In between songs, the DJ would talk up what's left of the Island as well, as he always did--he gave a couple shout-outs ot Laffer's Cantina, which was cool of him.

I'm sure the idea was to cut the creepiness factor in PI, but it didn't really work. Still a bunch of abandoned buildings surrounding a construction zone. Curl must have lawyers going over its contract with a fine-toothed comb looking for an out.

*[I'd swear I heard three Phil Collins songs from Disney movies in maybe 90 minutes. Throw in some Hannah Montana and you get an idea of the playlist. He did mix in some Dave Matthews at the request of a certain bartender, which was cool. Nothing against the DJ, he's doing the job they gave him and I'm glad he found work, but it was basically Radio Disney.]

Videos were back last night, or maybe it's only on the screens by Fuego? Last time I saw ads was on the TVs across from AdvClub. Still a lot of top 40, but the DJ snuck in some U2, even Siouxie and the Banshees. Not that anyone was around to notice--I am convinced now those outside bars are open only to satisfy some contractual obligation with Curl or Raglan or someone.

Interesting analysis. And that leads me to think that they can only renovate the building housing Mannequins and 8TRAX because Curl and Harley Davidson ARE IN THE SAME BUILDING. I don't see anyway that they could tear the place down given those stores being located there. So that leads me back to my original proposition that there isn't a heck of a lot you could do with that space via extremely expensive renovations except reopen clubs there.

They changed the name of the bar next to mannequins its now called the pi live bar. Its just really weird.

I think you're definitely right about not being able to tear it down--maybe a restaurant would work, but it would have to be a huge, cavernous restaurant (think T-Rex), not anything more "grown-up." Even then, any contractors care to weigh in on how feasible it is to build a giant kitchen in an existing building?

Of course, the easiest option for Disney would just be to leave the space empty. :sad1:

I think it could be done.....but terribly expensive. And a restaurant wouldn't need the height that the 8TRAX/Mannequins building offers. And that revolving dance floor could be built over without ever removing it, but again, the expense. New construction would be cheaper, but can't really demolish it because of those other tenants. So I just don't see a lot of viable options for the place except to have someone reopen what's already there. Especially in this economy.
