PI for Teens?

We will be in WDW fo Xmas/New Year period with two teenagers one 18 and one 16. Firstly can they go into any of the clubs at PI, secondly do I have to go too!!! Seriously do they have to be accompanied by an adult or would my son at 18 be classed as an adult? They are good kids but I worry would you allow your teens to go to PI alone?

Any advice welcomed.

There's a legality issue, and there's the "should you even if you can" issue. You'll get lots of opinion to the second issue. There was an earlier thread that addressed this and seemed to cause some commotion. Personally, I think it comes down to trust of your kids. There IS drinking, heavy drinking at times, taking place. On the other hand, it's a lot more contained than other 'bar districts.' And you can be pretty sure, from what I've seen, that it's difficult for underage patrons to get a drink. You have to be given a wristband at the entrance, and show it to get alcohol. I wish you luck with that part of the decision.

As for the legalities, those under 18 need to be with an adult or guardian. Over 18 can go in alone, can't drink without a wristband. Two clubs, BET Soundstage and Mannequins, require you to be 21 or older to enter.

Hope that helps. And yes, you HAVE to go! Really! It's a hoot for kids of all ages.

My kids are the same age and I wouldn't have a problem sending them to PI. There are a few clubs where you don't have to be 21.

Just to clarify...children under the age of 18 cannot go unless they are accompanied at all times by a legal parent or guardian. I had a friend who was thrown out of PI becuase she was not with her parents, just her older sister.

This means your 16 year old cannot go with your 18 year old. You may find a way to get around it, but do not be suprised if a cast member catches them and asks them to leave.

The actual rule is they must be with a parent or guardian to get on the island. The will not be given a wrist band (those are for 18 and up) and will not be allowed in Mannequins or BET Soundstage.

I meant that yes there are places that will allow a 16 and 18 year old in (they don't have to be 21). I don't have a problem taking them with us.

What are the age ranges you've seen parents take kids to some of the clubs (not the over 21 ones). Is it an atomosphere that a 13 and 8-1/2 yr old would enjoy? We take our kids to dinner at pubs, etc. Just wondering what other people have seen at PI, and is it accepted? What is the earliest things get started without getting too late into the evening? Thanks for any info. We've never done PI (even as a couple)!

Let me start by saying I have no kids (although they're coming!), so my opinions are based on what I've seen only...

I think PI has a lot to hold kids attention, for at least a little while. I've never seen any teenage-level kids not enjoy the music. Younger kids seem to like the AC better. I've never seen any youngsters in the CW. We always get to the AC soon after open, and there seems to be a lot of very young kids in there (10-12 y/o?). The characters are very, very good with them.

Not having kids, I can't say every kid would be satisfied with everything in PI, but there seems to be something to hold everyone's interest.

During Feb. break I took my 16 y.o. DD and 2 of her friends to PI. I left them in one of the dance clubs (with cell phones) and went to the AC. They had a lot of fun dancing.

For what it's worth . . .

I was at PI for the first time (sorry, I know, I'm a pitiful life form) this last January when I was in WDW for 5 days by myself. On two of the evenings I was at the Adventurer's Club, well past my normal and sane bedtime.

I also have an 18 year old daughter, and like your opinion DizneyDaze of your teens, I think the world of her. I enjoyed the evenings a lot, but several times during the evening I wished she was with me at the AC.

The show is an interactive improv, very funny, and occasionally bawdy, but if they've read any Shakespeare they've been exposed to that general level of humor anyway. My DD has a devilish sense of humor, and she would have absolutely loved the evenings.

I appreciate knowing the "rules" on sub-21's, thanks everybody. Since you know your teens best, if they'd have a good time, take them there and give them some space.

I went to the AC for the first time this summer. I had my then 8 year old in the Neverland Club. I went at whatever time it was that the AC opened and was surprized at all the very young (6-11 yo) children there. I left by 10 (to pick up my daughter) and a few younger kids as well as teens were still at the AC.

Thanks you everyone for your help. I think we will go as a family AC sounds great so that is my starting point. Drinking is not an issue, I think they would just like some space - so if we are all together we can judge the situation on the night.

Our children are 14 and 12 and we have taken them to PI for the last three years, they love the Adventures Club. The only other place we've gone to is the Jazz club.

my 13 yo son & I closed down DisneyQuest one warm, magical night, then walked over to PI together (after midnight!!) We went in the AC & I bought him a drink--(Mountain Dew with a twist
They let him sit at the bar. A set had just begun and it wasn't crowded out in the "bar." The bartender plunged his seat up and down a few times.

We caught the very last boat back to POR.

It was one of those magical moments you remember forever.

The 7 yo Princess was back at the room, tucked in safe with Daddy, where she belonged at that hour.

That said, I'm glad to hear of the *welcomeness* (is that a word?) of *youth* at PI. DH and I were contemplating leaving the kids at one of the *clubs* (i.e. BABYSITTERS!) while we go to PI in December....now I might rethink that....my kids will be 8,10 &12, and I'm sure they'd have a BLAST!

This thread has been unusual- normally when this topic comes up, you hear many negative opinions about kids at PI. You might want to do a search on the topic to find the other side of the story. I personally don't feel it's an appropriate place for kids. Even if the cast members are good about the kids being around, the other patrons won't be. I've heard things shouted out during sets at the Adventurers Club that were downright embarrassing, and I'm no prude. These places are bars, and you will see all of the activity normally associated with bars. People will be drunk and they will act like it.

Also, the standard topics of comedy at the AC are sex and booze. It's probably PG-13 stuff, for the most part, but many parents would probably be uncomfortable with it.
