Pi Clubs To Be Reopened Soon?

LOL yes we are aware!
And the blog has been blocked on Disney's servers now:lmao: Either bob is getting to close to the truth or they are just pissed off we won't let it die!:rotfl2:

There are a number of things they could do with this, but lets see if reconstruction actually starts first. It will not be difficult to tell when things are getting beefed up. I will be on the island at least 2x a week checking things out.

Wouldnt it be nice to celebrate the 20th anniversary with a reopening...

I'm all for a new PI opening back this year. But just as long as the CW goes along with it. Just like the AC fans, I don't wanna see Improv comedy cease at The World & i'm sure when Philip & Lisa are done with Idol for the day, Mary, Krista & Missy have figured out the final Problem, Robby found Nemo & Carol put the hat back at Rose & Crown, that these very talented people would love to return back to CW yet one more time. Look at the response when they did the CW Reunion show. All i'm saying is that since Virgin closed & the area is a ghost town, why not re-open PI better than ever & do it the right way. Do it with Mannequins, Motion, Soundstage, AC & CW. There is profit to be made & i'm sure Kevin Lansbury would stop getting threatened if it happened which would make him happy. I know we all want it, give us back our Pleasure Island & do it right this time.

I agree - and very cute post btw!

I really want CW back.

If more like us were as persistent as the AC marks then we'd probably get the CW back. I know a lot of people miss it & I believe if we spread the word, we can be just as powerful as the AC fans. So why don't we take this time to spread the word of the CW & the great times we all shared there & lets start a campaign right now to RE-OPEN THE COMEDY WAREHOUSE!!!!

Ok, who's with me?

I too am a fan of CW. I always went there on my PI nights and enjoyed a show before migrating to 8-trax or mannequins. However, like the AC, the actors there were under a contract. The contract states that if Disney were to reopen the club within 1 year of closing, Disney would have to pay them back pay. One could of course argue that Disney could make enough to pay all the back pay in literally one night if they were to reopen AC and CW both, but they don't seem to want to do that.

It never hurts to make your opinion known to Disney. Will they listen? With the latest rumors, maybe they are listening, or maybe some people high up the chain, but below Iger, were not aware of the PI decision and how it was reached. Right now my focus is to get mannequins and 8-trax back to show ready status and hoping that is what they are doing. We still don't know if they would even reopen the clubs if they rebuild them.

baby steps lead to accomplishments. Lets hope all the PI clubs are eventually available to be rented at the very least, and then reopened preferably. I'm with you guys 100%, I love CW, but remember the big picture

That's what I've been told about the DJ contract too. But as you said, they could get a payback on those relatively few dollars with just a night or two of club revenue, so I don't understand that being a stumbling block to reopening any of the clubs if that was what they really wanted to do.

I've heard about this provision in the contract several times, and I am by no means a performer contract expert, but that provision sounds very strange to me, even for a union contract. I've heard of provisions that state that if whatever job that was eliminated is brought back within a certain amount of time, you have right of first refusal on the job at your previous pay rate (or even an increase), but getting full back pay? What about those that are working elsewhere within WDW now? Do they get full back pay, differentiated pay, or nothing? How does the availability for rentals affect that?

Not saying it isn't true - it just seems to be a strange provision...which pretty much guarantees it won't open again until at least October. Then again, even with a simpler provision like I mentioned, it probably wouldn't open until October anyways, for two main reasons - one, the fiscal year, so that it could be budgeted properly for operation again, and two - if there was a ROFR provision that expired after a year, they wouldn't be required to rehire the old talent at their old rate...

Many of the "talent" are working other places on property.
There is one previous AC cast who is in plays in other states. I think one CW cast said he was going to the teaching field.

Many of them I have seen working in the parks in various areas and roles.
Just today we peeked in the velcro room in Epcot and Missy (CW) and a past AC cast was working there. (Not sure really what his nickname is. He sang "I Did It My Way" in the final night.)
Earlier this week I saw Sugar Snap (she will always be Sugar Snap to me) and Philip Nolan as AIE judges. And I saw SS as a street character in DHS during ESPN Weekends. Several are AIE judges.
They are all over. (thank goodness)

One of the former PI DJ's that I know says this is the case. Unlike the bars staff and actors/actresses that received new positions somewhere else within Disney, the DJ's were all laid-off. If anything is reopened within a year they get their old jobs offered to them plus the back pay.

It does seem odd but that's what I've been told. Yet at the same time the money involved can't be much in the big scheme of things such that it would be a barrier to reopening for the summer, for instance, if that is what they really wanted to do. Memorial day, Gay Days, Summer Vacations, 4th of July, Labor Day.....all way to much money to be made to let something like back pay stand in the way of reopening versus letting the venues remain idle and earning nothing. IMO, of course.

The latest rumor I've heard is that a 3rd party vendor will be reopening Mannequins and 8TRAX.

That would leave Motion, Adventurer's Club and Soundstage still operated by Disney and available for private rentals at least through September and if another rumor is true, available for rental now beyond September.

No rumors about Comedy Warehouse or Rock'n'Roll Beach Club.
