Phrases you hate

"It doesn't matter what you think because the company will continue to make plenty of money."
"Good, one less person in line ahead of me."

I bet that you know what these refer to! ;)

Also... "Get over It"

That can refer to so many things and it's not always so easy to just "get over it".

"I just threw up a little in my mouth."
"If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about."

I can't stand, "hands down." The origin comes from horse racing and is in reference when a horse had an insurmountable lead and heading to the finish the jockey would lower his hands from the reins signifying that the competition has been beaten soundly. The expression is used so often, especially here on the DIS when someone is giving an opinion of a restaurant. "Hands down" restaurant A is much better than restaurant B and etc. It's not hands down, it's opinion. There is no clearly defined winner. :)

***Edited*** I have been called out by a representative of the grammar police and promptly notified of my misuse and grammatical mistake of spelling reigns instead of reins.

Backstory. These days, in live talks, TV shows, books, movies, etc. we are given a backstory before the current story begins. Unfortunately, the backstory is too hard to believe, usually crafted from minute bits and pieces to create an inspirational tale worth your time and/or money. I don't like to be patronized in that way.

Some DisBoard dislikes:
Vacay - do you mean Vacation?
Brekkie - do you mean Breakfast?
Cindy's - do you mean Cinderella's Castle? IMO her name was Ella, not Cindy. She was forced to clean cinders out of fireplaces. Thus Ella received the derisive nickname Cinder Ella, shortened to Cinderella.

rezzies for reservations
brekkie for breakfast
preggers
there are a bunch of words like that and they all drive me crazy!!

"not for nothin' but..."

Littles for kids of some sort
Kiddos for the same thing
Ressie for reservation
Brekkie for breakfast
There's a bunch more used here on the boards as well.

Every time I read or hear one I just shake my head and wonder, "do they really think they sound cute doing that?". It's not cute. It's actually quite annoying.

Sorry, but this is one of those common misuses of a word that drives me crazy!
reigns: rules a country
reins: the straps on a bridle that guide the horse

I gotta say......I say most of the things that annoy everyone
I didn't realize that people hate these phrases that much.

I don't like
"Legit!!"
Anything with "The Bae"
"Any who"
"I love you to the moon and back" (this is my least favorite - it seems like everyone says it)

I've brought this up before, but "going to Disney". Growing up in California, I've never heard anyone say that in person.

Back in the day...

Totes

Adorbs

(any other cutesy word that isn't a word)

Literally (when it isn't)

Absolutely

That being said, it's a FUN Zombie Thread so I'll play.

"At the end of the day, ..." -- I hate it, hate it, hate it!

"Same" and "Actually" only because I hear them out of my DD's mouth multiple times per day.
