PHP on room key question

This will be our first trip where we're buying our tickets and hotel separately....no package. How does it work? We've loved having the PHP and room key on the same card. Can we still have it that way....or will they have to be separate?

I bought our tickets before we left, at the Disney store, so we did have 2 separate cards; one for the room key, and the tickets I had bought.
I think if you buy the PHP when you check in they will put it all on one card for you.
