With out sounding like a real stupid question but I don't really understand what the photopass is? Can someone please explain to me what this is and how it works? Thanks:confused3 :surfweb:

It's not a stupid question - don't worry! :cutie:

Firstly, it's a free service offered by Disney. Their CM's take your photo, if you want, then give you a card with a serial number on it.

Each time you have your picture taken by the PhotoPass CM's give them your card and they will scan it to add your new images.

When you get home, login to the PhotoPass website. You can view and edit your pics there, decide whether you'd like to buy some prints, a CD with all of your pics on it, create a PhotoMovie or PhotoBook. Please be aware that you are not obliged to purchase anything! :thumbsup2

Check out www.stitchkingdom.com - it's a fellow Diser's site and has loads of great information about PhotoPass. :hippie:

If you are considering buying the CD with all your pics, there is a special promotion that lets you pre-order at a discount rate (20% off IIRC). :upsidedow

CD's purchased will contain all your original photos PLUS any enhanced/edited versions you have made. :goodvibes

Hope that helps. :flower3:

thanks for explaining that, one more question what is the photo pass share?

If your trip is only to DLR, don't pre-order the CD. Pre-ordering is 99. Ordering it with only Disneyland pictures is now 79.

A share is when a group of people go in on a CD together. If you think of it in terms of a big family gathering, you can see that getting the one CD and making copies for the family members can make sense. And not everyone is going to be together every moment (unless you are a very close family or just want to torment everyone, LOL), so different family groups will go different ways, and sometimes different family members might go off alone. So each family, or even each person, can get their own cards from the photographers, and have pictures taken.

Then at the end of the vacation, all those card numbers are entered onto ONE photopass online account.

Then each person is given access to that account, and you are given 30 days from putting the card numbers onto the account to edit, put borders around, add signatures, all the pictures (each edit is saved as another copy, you never lose the original picture). Then once people are done (before the 30 days) the account "owner" orders the CD, it's sent, and the person can copy the CD.

So if you think of a group of Dis'ers as family, that's how a share works.

I personally think the CD and the photo release (allowing you to make prints wherever you want) is valuable enough to just pay for it without the share. BUT I didn't know that I felt that way until I was part of a share. :)

so for the 79 dollars how many pictures can you get on that cd? Is there a max? Thanks

I'm not sure, but I think the maximum is 300 (but I might be wrong). Although you are NOT limited to one CD. You can have as many photopass pics as you want for the $79, they will just send you multiple CDs to hold all the pics and it does not cost extra.

Then do you pay to have what ever pictures you want can you do that anywhere or do you have to order through them.?

We only had like 3 pictures taken (must've missed seeing the photopass photographers on our busy week) although they took several shots each time. So we just ordered 3 individual pictures instead of a CD. You can still add borders and whatnot, they print it up and mail it to you. It's expensive though! $12.00 for a 5x7, and that's the smallest size.

I knew I was going to buy the CD so we stopped at EVERY photog we saw and even searched for a few - we ended up with 80 regular pics and after editing I had 160! If your going to do it, I think you should FILL IT UP!! Get as many as you can to make the cost worth it - then you can print them at home! Well worth it to me - but it only cost me $79 and I bought after I got home - I did not prepay!

$79? Cool... last year it was definitely more.

OK, I'm just a teeny bit confused, when you say only Disneyland, does that include pictures taken at DCA?

Thanks!
:)

I'm sorry, I keep saying "disneyland" when I need to be saying Disneyland Resort" or DLR. I pop back and forth between here and the WDW threads, and so in my head I'm comparing WDW vs DLR but I'm typing only Disneyland and I'm confusing you guys.

It's both parks, DL and DCA, for that new 79.99 price. :)

Sorry 'bout that.

vbecky, when you buy the photopass CD, you are given official permission (in the form of a file on the disc that you can print out) to print the pictures wherever you want, whenever you want (for non-business reasons, LOL). You do NOT have to order the prints through disney. Just take them to Costco, go to Ritz Cameras, upload them to Snapfish or dotphoto, wherever you want! :)

They put as many pictures as you have (and as you edit, remembering that each edit you make creates a new picture b/c the original of each picture is always kept intact) onto as many discs as are needed. So if you have 500 pictures taken (wow) and edit them so you have 1500 pictures, you will get as many discs as that takes! It might take a bit longer, but you'll get them. :)
