HELP!!! :rotfl2: Since I've been bugging you DISigners for the past month, I thought I'd give it a try. I have Photoshop CS2, but I'm just taking baby steps with it.

It might have been Amy who recommended this site? http://www.planetphotoshop.com/photos-within-type-part-1.html Anyway, I have a character name complete (somewhat), but I can't figure out how in the world to outline the text???

Here's a quote from the website that is blowing my mind! ..."For even more fun, play with effects on your type layer. I added an outer glow with a bit-o-purple I sampled from the image, plus a 2 pixel center stroke with yet a different shade of purple (again, sampled from the image). I filled a new layer with black and stuck it on the very bottom of my layers stack." (This is at the bottom of the page, from the link above.):confused3

Does anyone out there have the patience to explain that to me, step by step? I've been trying to figure it out, but I'm not the brightest in the world!:rotfl:
:thanks: Your Humble DISigner Wannabe, Angela

This is for Photoshop Elements, so hopefully it may be similar for your program as well.

After you have the name completed... in the top right area of the screen it has Special Effects. Then a drop down menu that says filters, layer styles and photo effects on the left. Choose layer styles. Then on the right it will list bevel, drop shadows, inner glows, outer glows, etc.

In mine, outline is not listed here, so what I do is first choose bevel which gives the text that 3D look. Then after choosing that... I go to the layer and double click on the sun like shape. When you double click on that a box will come up. From that box, stroke is the last choice. Put a checkmark in the box and choose the width, color, etc.

I hope this helps!

I'm in shock....I finally figured out how to do Photobucket!!! My image is below...

Amy, thank you so much for your info, but Photoshop CS2 must be quite a bit different than Elements. (Of course I could be so ditzy, that I don't see the similarities.) Does anyone out there have Photoshop, and can you tell me how to add an outline to this name?? Thanks a bunch! :)

It's similar in Photoshop CS3 as well, you chose layer style (under layer) and all of the options are there. Make sure you select the layer that you are interested in changing. Hope this helps.

Ok, I have been DISigning a little over a month. I have used Photoshop 5, Photoshop CS3 and Photoshop Elements 6. Everything I learned I learned on these boards and here http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/photoshoptutorials/Essential_Tutorials_for_Photoshop_ImageReady.htm. I did not like Planet Photoshop or whatever that one is.

Anyway. Keep plugging. I do not know CS2, but CS3 was pretty easy once you started thinking like that program.

If you see me online, PM me and I can see if we can walk through it together.

Thank you DisneyMom92 & Amy. Y'all are awesome!! I'm going to try that new site & work at it some more. It just looks like so much fun (and I need to put Photoshop to use since we have it!) I'll update my photobucket once I get it all figured out. :thumbsup2 Angela

I use PS Elements also. There should be a stroke command somewhere. Maybe look up stroke in the help section of the program? Once you find it you should be able to "stroke" the white area of your graphic to get the out line.

Good luck!

Aha! Thank you Dom13, stroke was the magic word! (That sounds funny!):rotfl: Anyway, I found it under: LAYER, LAYER STYLE. Here's what I came up with so far:

I can't wait to figure this all out! Thanks to all! (Big thanks to Kari, for sharing her clipart!)

Great job! Now play around with some of the other styles in there, like emboss and where the stroke and embossing is. It's great fun.

Oh Angela...

I think you are no longer a "Designer wannabe".... I think you are a full-fledged Designer...(that is, if you wannbe:lmao: )

LOL! :rotfl2: I dunno if I wannabe now! :rotfl: You are all SO organized, and I am SOOooooo Not! I am excited that I do "kinda" know what to do in Photoshop now, as far as adding text to a picture. At least now I can personalize some of those awesome backgrounds/mickeyheads you graciously shared w/ everyone. (You did notice where the art came from in my name, didn't you???) ;)

Maybe now, when someone has a "generic" request on the board, I can help out the DISigners. (Instead of anxiously waiting to see who will spread pixie dust to the newbie that happened upon this board!) This is just too much fun! :yay: Thanks again, Angela
