Photoshop Elements

Okay Photographers, I need your help. Several months ago (I'm thinking February or March) I remember seeing a PE thread and it had manipulated photos and instructions for doing it. Specifically, there was a tiger that looked like it was walking right out of the photo. They looked dimensional. I know that there were instructions as to how to do that, and I just can't find them!!

Can someone, anyone, please help me?!

Thank you very much!!

Melissa

It's called "Out of Bounds" ... I know you can do this with Photoshop, but not sure about Elements as I've never used it.

Ok, so I have what's probably a REALLY dumb question; I was working with Elements 5.0 last night trying to add a couple frames to a picture. You know, a black frame with maybe a white border on the inside of it, and I can't figure out how to do this!!! I feel really stupid. :sad2: Can someone help shed some light on this???

I have a much older version of Elements but this should work on any version - add a layer then use the line tool to make your white border on this layer, then make another layer, change the color to black and create your outside border. Use the guides and ruler to make sure you have an even borderI am guessing there are templates in your version but I don't have them. Hope this helps.

You can also resize the canvas. It's been awhile since I've done this, but IIRC you just pull down the image menu and choose resize and then choose canvas. Then you change the dimensions to reflect the size frame/border you want and select the background color (you'll have to go through this twice to get a white border and black frame). I make no guarantees that this is the most efficient way to accomplish this, but it's worked for me. ;)

i do it the same as fitzperry..the only problem is if you want to change the first line after you are done as far as i know you have to redo the whole thing( you might be able to change just the color but i can never get that to work)

Hi All,
:confused3
Today I had a problem out of the blue saving pictures that I edited using PSE5.0. I, to the best of my knowledge, did not change any of my default settings, which were to save in the Organizer with a version set that included the edit and the original. Now, when I save, there is no indication looking at the picture, in the organizer, that any edits were done - no version set, no little icon in the Rt. upper corner. However, today's date is in the info when I look at the details. And on my drive in the "my pictures" file I see my original and my edited version. While I know that I have both versions, I like seeing in the Organizer some indication that a photo has been worked on.
Any ideas as to what mistake I made to cause this?
Thanks!

I can't help you with that problem, however my PSE 5.0 has recently had troubles saving pics in a different way. I hit save and re-name the file, choose the quality of the image and when it is actually saving it, it now takes about 10 seconds or so before it says something like "Organizer not available or in use by another program". This never happened before. I suppose I will have to re-install the whole program...

This after only two months of use. Not very promising. :confused3

is the "as a copy" box checked? I generally have 3 boxes checked - include in the organizer, save in version with original, and as a copy. This way, I don't have to rename the edited copy, it names the edited copy automatically and stacks them in the organizer.

Yes, all three boxes are checked, and I have tried every configuration of box checking I could. I am thinking that I, too, need to re-install and start from scratch. My computer does not seem to be feeling well over all, so this might not be a problem that I can blame on Elements (or myself for that matter).
Thanks for the Help though!

I am tryin ghte free trial of elements and caanot find a solution to a problem probably down to user!

If i use the cookie cutter, and say, use the heart shape, it work fine with a cut out of the image set within the heart shape. However when I use one of the "frames" from the shapes selection, the frame overlays the picture and the whole sheet has a chequred pattern and the piciture is no where to be seen!

Any ideas?

thanks

i've never used a frame in it but that is what it looks like when you have a layer that is 100 opague...maybe see if there is a layer involved?

I am just beginning to slightly figure out 5.

i just got a thing from adobe about it and thought the exact same thing Jen...it didn't look real different from what i could tell but it's low on my list, like way past #1000:rotfl2:

Been awhile since I have been here on the Photography board (just busy, I guess, LOL).

With the search function here worthless as it is, and I do not readily see a thread on it as yet, just an FYI for those who may be in the market for Elements, version 6 is out now.

I picked up at Costco, $79, no rebates involved, included a second program, Essentials 2, looks like a good addon for a person who likes it simple. Just played with the program a little, both, and PSE 6 looks like a great update from 5.

Again, just a PSE.

Thanks, Dan!
I have been looking for something to replace (a really old) Microsoft Digital Image Pro.

I just got Photoshop Elements 6 and I have a question on importing.
When I do File -> Get Photos and Videos -> From Camera or Card Reader, it allows me to set it up so it automatically creates subfolders based on the shooting date. This works great and it's exactly how I want my photos organized. The problem is that there doesn't seem to be any way to do this when I'm getting photos from a CD instead of from a card reader. When getting them from a CD, it lets me choose to "Copy Files on Import", but it puts them all in one folder.

Is there any way to pull photos in from a CD and have it automatically create subfolders based on the shooting date like it does when you pull them from a camera or card reader?
