Photoshare not 'worth' the bargain

I'm guessing the OP has never done a share before? Part of being in a share is knowing what you are getting into. You should have the acct name and password and verify that the CD has been ordered before leaving on vacation. That info is available by looking into the account.

I just did a share on FB for May/June and it went perfectly. Sorry OP was left out. I hope the leader refunded her money.

not to be a smart alec, but in the last two years, you have spent thousands of dollars staying deluxe, and you try to save a few buck doing a photopass share? i dont get it.

I certainly don't think I should have to explain my financial decision-making...as that was not the intent of this thread. I, just like 95% of the population, do have to budget and watch my spending. We are fortunate enough to have been able to indulge in deluxe accommodations and deluxe dining...but any chance I get to save a few...I do. I cut coupons :scared1:...I buy in bulk when things I use are on sale...I never buy my clothes at full price...I buy Disney tattoos, glow sticks, and battery-operated fans before our trips so that I don't spend a fortune on these items at the parks. So yeah, when I saw an opportunity to save on a pricey CD, I took it...but unfortunately, it back-fired. Can't win them all!

You shouldn't have to explain yourself IMO. Like you, we budget for EVERYTHING (unless it's unexpected). Because we do, it allows us to do other things like choose where we want to stay and do deluxe dining if we choose. I think that BECAUSE you budget, you can allow yourself indulgences like staying where you want to stay on vacation. You don't owe anyone an explanation. :grouphug:

I'm glad you got your pics back and everything worked out for you. Hopefully the leader will refund your money to you.

I've done two shares and they both went smoothly. For me I'm willing to risk the $15 on a share and potentially lose those pictures if it doesn't pan out because I wouldn't have those pics anyway without the share since I'm not willing to spend $100 on it. I think the share is only a good idea if you won't be heartbroken if you lose your pics.

I have never done a share where I wasn't the leader, which is a bit stressful in itself (as I worry how I might screw something up for others, plus you have to do all that darn copying once the CD arrives). But I lead because I am too much of a control freak to not have control of my pics and too cheap to ever pay full price for a photopass CD.

So, that is one way to avoid having someone else mess it up for you!

I am glad the OP got her picture reinstated. Sorry it caused so much worrying though.

OP sorry you had a bad experience but I'm glad you got your pix anyway.:goodvibes

I've run quite a few shares and they have all gone well. :goodvibes I do seem to have the same core group of people participate especially now that the boards don't allow them. Usually they will contact me to see if I am doing one. Since I go to DLR quite often I am usually able to get the DLR pricing and therefore I only need a few participants to make it work.

Just before the boards stopped all shares I ran one that had so many participants that I decided to break it done into 4 separate ones. Otherwise I would have gone crazy with separating everyone's pix! I like doing the shares with only 3-5 participants. So much easier.

Again, sorry your experience didn't go well, that's part of the reason the board stopped allowing them.

The best way to do it is to have a small share with people you are familiar with. Friends of friends, relatives, etc. Complete strangers make it more risky.

And yes, your organizer should have known about the change in the rules of the prepay CD. It's very clear on the website. Hope you got your money back since the organizer made the mistake.

I too had an issue after my very first share (which I did not run) where I used the same PP card on my next visit and my pictures went to the previous organizers PP account. The folks at PP were very accommodating and moved my pix to my own account. Lesson learned-DON"T USE A PP CARD FROM A PREVIOUS VISIT! Besides, when you do the pictures get uploaded immeadiately and your 30 day window opens. I like to wait until almost the last day to upload my pictures and then get 30 more days to order the CD. That way I can get up to 60 days from the date my first pix are taken before I have to order (without paying the extra to extend my ordering window):wizard:

Now that the OP has got their siutation straightened-out, let's take a look at this...

This website stopped all Photopass shares about this time, last year.

Then along came Facebook -- which nowdays tends to be the # 1 source for the majority of these shares.

My question to everyone is why would you trust your vacation memories to a bunch of complete strangers that you don't even know??

I'm so glad I wasn't the only person in the universe to make that mistake. :upsidedow

OP, you might want to update your title to show that this was a problem with the leader not knowing that the rules of the pre-order had changed. I mean, it didn't end up being a bargain, but this wasn't a scam, this wasn't something awful...it was just a mistake, and I have to assume that the leader has refunded you (or you would have mentioned it). So no, it's not the bargain you wanted, but there was a very very specific reason why it didn't work, Photopass has obviously helped you with it, and apart from the money, you seem to have been made "whole". Seems it would be best for the title to reflect the core problem of the situation. :)

-Molly (who wouldn't have found Photopass if it weren't for a share, and now pays for it on her own b/c she feels even full price is a bargain, especially after having to wait FIVE YEARS for the right to have ownership of the digital images of her wedding photos)

This is how I feel, too. I always have them take the photos with my own camera and would never pay the price for the Photo Pass CD. But as part of a share, I get the photos taken anyway and then add the fun boarders. All three shares I've been in have worked out perfectly, but I wouldn't be heartbroken if the images vanished. Like the PP, it really doesn't feel like much of a risk.

OP, I am so very glad you got your images back. When you're counting on something like that to capture your memories it's very understandable why you would be heartbroken to have them lost.
