Got back last week from 14 nights at Ft. Wilderness and 16 total nights in the MOUSE-KE-T@B.
Great Trip!!!
The first night I stayed at the Forsythe KOA just North of Macon. I pulled in very late, just hooked up the electric and went to bed.
The next morning on to WDW!!
I arrived about 2pm and unloaded all my stuff, then went to the overflow parking lot, and dropped off the truck. I had another couple staying with me, and had arranged for them to meet me in the overflow lot, so met them there and we we back to the campsite and unloaded all their stuff and proceed to set up camp. We were in site 2020 which is what I requested and everything fit perfectly!! We had my T@B, 4 EZ-UP Type Shelters, a 13x13 Coleman Tent, the picnic table, and their utility trailer on the site. After getting set up, we cleaned up a bit, dropped their truck at the overflow lot, and headed toward Magic Kingdom. We were hunting for dinner, and while waiting on the boats, I called CRO and Chef Mickey's was available!!
So after Chef Mickey's we spent the evening at Magic Kingdom!!
(After that things start to run together, so I won't be as specific).
The rest of the first week, we spent lots of time in the parks, we also met up with another family from home for breakfast at Whispering Canyon, and we took them with us to the parks during evening EMHs to show them around. They had never been. The kids eyes were big as saucers!! One evening, we had dinner at Rainforest Cafe. We're members of their Safari Club and both of us had coupons to burn, so we stuffed ourselves for little money!
We also spent a day over at IOA/Universal and had a really nice time there, although as smooth as B&M coasters are, I guess I'm getting older cause they don't seem so smooth any more. Dueling Dragons Ice about ate my lunch. We had lunch at Nascar Cafe. We love their Potato Soup!!
My friends met up with a local Orlando friend and went on a gambling boat for a day, so I spent the day (Thursday) doing laundry and then went Booth Crawling over at the F&W festival!! Yummy!!!
On Thursday night is when the 12th annual RADP Meet began. We went to Mickey's Halloween Party and watched the fireworks together and got lots of candy and enjoyed some attractions, especially Haunted Mansion.
On Friday, RADP did some attractions at Animal Kingdom as a group, then I met back up with my site mates to spend some time with them. Buff an myself had dinner at the China Pavillion, while her hubby had a burger at American Adventure. I went over to Adventurer's Club some that night, but was coming down with a cold, so let early, took some drugs, and SLEPT!!
On Saturday, RADP did some Epcot stuff in the morning, had lunch at Picabu, then had our traditional Big Meet & Greet outside the International Gateway of Epcot. Then I spent the afternoon and evening back with my campmates. We had dinner at Yachtsman Steakhouse that evening. Yummy!
My campmates left early Sunday morning as they only had through Saturday on their APs left. (That was the reason they came with me, they had the leave time, and sharing the campsite was cheap, so decided to make use of that last week on their APs).
On Sunday was RADP Magic Kingdom day. We started the day eating at Trails End as a group, then wandered through Magic Kingdom riding Splash, Jungle Cruise, Pirates, Haunted Mansion, and Philharmagic together, and a break at the Dole Whip Stand. I left about 1pm while the group hunted for Quick Service lunch.
It was time to get ready to host my meet!! I had an Open House at the campsite. I had smokies, popcorn, chips, dips, soda, etc. Nothing fancy. As in a previous post, I had lots of folks from RADP, DisBoards, and the tabtrailers Yahoo group come visit me that day, or some at different times during the two weeks. It was lots of fun!!!!
After the open house at the campsite, the RADP group grabbed some wine and S'Mores fixins and headed over to the Sing A Long Campfire and Movie!! The wine made it lots of fun!!! We only watched some of the movie so we then wandered down to the beach watched Wishes and the Electrical Water Pageant.
It was a full, but fun day to be with friends that I've known for years and to meet new friends that I hope to know for many more!!
Monday started with the RADP group at RnRC and TOT, then we proceeded over to Epcot for Noshing around the World (Showcase) that is. We had an enjoyable afternoon sampling the booths at the F&W festival. I tried Escargot for the first time. I like it!!!!! That evening we went to Fantasia Gardens for Mini Golf!! That was fun as a group!!
Well, Monday evening was the official end of the RADP gathering, but not the end of the fun.
On Tuesday, I spent the morning cleaning laundry, and breaking down the tent that David & Buff had stayed in and played with rearranging the shelters to see how I would like setting up future campsites with my T@B. I also went looping on my electric Scooter to take pictures of various Loops and campsites around the Fort. There were three cabin loops completely empty. I also watched a gargantuan Class A struggle to get into their site in Loop 400. There were cars poking out into the street, and brush clearing (Why do people insist on leaving their cars at the site. I much prefer taking my truck out to the overflow lot and let Disney do the driving). On Tuesday evening, I met up with Jack & his daughter from RADP to have dinner at Teppan Edo. That was a very good dinner!!
The rest of the week, I went park hopping to reride various attractions that I had missed. I even talked myself into riding Mission: Space. I only ride it occassionally because it leaves me a bit loopy. However, it is NOT the centrifuge, it is the simulator motion dodging asteroids at Mars. So the less intense side makes it no better for me. I LOVE the launch!!!!
Some dinners I had were at Citricos, Spoodles, and Sci Fi Drive Inn. Let me note that I made all of these ADRs within 30 minutes of seating time. Of course as a party of one, and with the question of "what is available in xx park or resort area", it is still fairly easy to get dinner ADRs.
On Friday and Saturday, I actually went to a few of the free food seminars at the Odyssey. I had three very unique dishes that on the surface, I thought I wouldn't like. Who would imagine that goat cheese cake and roasted beets would be good, but it was delicious!!!!
Well, after two weeks of no appreciable rain, on Saturday morning about 1am, it starts to rain, and rained all night. When I got back to the campsite on Friday evening, I broke some of my stuff down, but had not brought the truck back to put it away, but it was under my one remaining shelter or under the camper.
On Saturday morning, it was still raining, but still had one last meet with friends. I met with Pam, Sean, Bruce, and Marta for breakfast at Boma's. I was a bit late, but it wasn't a problem. It is so great meeting with all my old friends!!! I then went back to the campsite and finished packing up. My last shelter up was soaked and so was my rug. Yuck!!!!
While packing up is when Tri-Circle D of DisBoards dropped by and when I got my truck and camper dropped off at the overflow lot, FtWildernessGuy and the wonder beagle came by and introduced themselves.
I spent the afternoon at some food events, then had dinner at SciFi.
Then it was finally time to head homeward.
Went back to the campground and headed off property and got to see the Magic Kingdom fireworks from 429 heading North.
I arrived at the Starke/Gainesville KOA about 11:30 pm. While the campsite itself was fine for a quick overnighter, it was a bit farther off the interstate than I envisioned from the map, and also I would not stay there for an extended stay in my T@B as they don't allow free standing awnings or screen rooms on RV sites.
I continued my drive home on Sunday after sleeping till almost check out time, and arrived home about 9:00 Sunday night.
While I have always stretched my vacations as long as possible, I've discovered I must go a bit slower pulling the T@B and with the possibility of having to pack up wet (plus raining for four days straight once I got home), I'll be cutting my WDW trips to leaving Friday nights, arriving home Saturday night to have Sunday to unpack, then take the camper over to storage.
