I wish.....

New Photopass system is awesome... we used it during our early December stay. Not sure if DCL will follow suite.

We were on the Magic in December and there was no PhotoPass. My understanding is Shutters is not owned by Disney. I agree, PhotoPass was wonderful for our WDW stay afterwards.

No one has posted that PhotoPass has been implemented on board yet. It is true that Shutters is an individual company, not owned by Disney. Is it that way at the parks as well??? A lady at work just came back from WDW & it was awesome to see the photos online.

I heard the places in the parks are individual stores operated by Kodak. They hire independently from Disney.

photopass is a credit-like card you get when you have your picture taken (for me it was with a character, i assume they are at the entrances still too) and the photographer asked me "do you have a photo card?" i say "no" he swipes a card in what looks like a portable credit card reader and hands it to me and I move on. well you know the line is getting long, etc. I remember my mom telling me about it, one card for ALL pictures taken at ALL parks. So - i draw conclusions. Basically, it's a credit card like your KTTW card you keep for your duration at WDW, all theme parks (not sure about DD, water parks, etc) and whenever profesionall photographer takes your pic you give to photographer, he swipes and when you go home you can leisurely view and purchase the pictures taken. it's so awesome to be able to view them at home, that is the ideal for me, at my pace and no pressure. i hate taking time at shutters to look at pics, fall in love and then remember how many other things i have already charged and walk away!! too hard! let me think it over at home!!

OhMom, that was a great explanation, thanks. I also heard that you can purchase the pics like the old way too. So now what do the photographers hand you to show the stores where you claim them? Do you still get the "number" (I think it was that) to show them in addition to the credit card type thing? thanks.

We went during MVMCP and when we went to look at our pictures in the store we just handed the card to the person at the counter and they were able to pull up our pictures. They said that they could only pull up the pictures that were taken at that peticular park though. So if you are at MK and there are pictures on your card from Epcot you will only be able to view the pictures from the MK while in MK. When you get home you can view them all.

Shannon, thanks for the answer, that sounds great.

So since you can view them at home, how do they stop you from copying the pictures so you don't have to pay for them? Because ultimately they want your money.

You view them via the internet. It has some programming in place to block you from copying the pictures to your PC. WE tried everyway possible to save the photos, but no luck :sad2:

Shutters is owned by Disney but contracted out to another photography company.

WDW actually uses both systems. Kodak has some photographers and used to do some of the photo processing for the resort. The PhotoPass photographers are Disney employees.

There is much speculation that the PhotoPass system, which just made its debut not too long ago, is in a pilot phase. If it does well, it will be expanded to cover all aspects of WDW. There is even speculation that it may be tied into the ride photo systems at some point. [Think: Handing your PhotoPass card to the Cast Member loading the attraction, them sliding it, and then ordering your Splash Mountain photo two months later.]

Since Disney Cruise Line is actually folded into the Walt Disney World Resort (yes, that part of the company actually owns the Magic and Wonder), it wouldn't be too hard to imagine the PhotoPass system expanding to the ships in the future. That is, if Disney could make more money by doing it themselves than they do by contracting out the work and taking a slice of the profits.

kmiles -- I like your thinking :) I hope it's on DCL by november!! ha ha LOL

i would've LOVED for the ride photos to be tied in - i have never ever purchased a ride photo but my first ever ToT ride was an awesome pic and I wish I would've bought it now!

because the pics on the website are copyright protected ... you cannot right click the photos to copy them ... the only way to get them is to pay for them
