Photopass

I've checked out the website but still have a couple of questions:

1. I can't find a bottom line figure - can someone please tell me what I would have to pay for a CD of my photos to print myself?

2. I've seen the photographers in the main locations such as infront of the castle / Spaceship Earth, etc., but are they in lots of locations all around the parks?

Apologies for jumping in on this thread but I'm a complete PhotoPass novice as it's not something we've ever been interested in before. However, next trip will be just me and DD and. because I'm the one taking the photos 99% ot the time, that means 99% of photos featuring just DD - nothing wrong with that, but I think she might feel a bit in the spotlight! So PhotoPass could be of interest on this trip, depending on the cost and convenience. :)

You should be able to get all the information regarding locations, special effects etc HERE

Price wise - when we went in October it was around $149 for the CD. We had just over 400 photos taken in 2 weeks and after playing with borders, autographs, cropping and everything else we ended up with around 700. These were sent on 2 discs.

Thanks for the info :thumbsup2, that's great!

We had the photopass for our holiday in September 2008, we only paid $99 for it.

We pretty much went to every photopass photographer we could find and had our picture taken, even in the water parks and on Test Track. The map you get at the entrance to each park marks the location of the photographers.

When we got home we logged on and saw that we had over 500 pictures taken, I spent 2 weeks adding borders and by the time i'd finished we had over 1500 pictures.

I then checked out from the photopass website and they sent my disk. When it arrived there were 4 disks inside.

I also did not pay for postage! When I checked out the postage charge was automatically taken off. So I only paid $99 in total for the whole lot.

I've uploaded all the pictures on my latop and over time we've printed them off via Tesco's (5p for more than 50).

I intend to do the same again this September but I imagine alot has changed since I first ordered mine.

When you get home you may have a couple of 100 photo's taken but with the option of adding borders / cropping/ black and white you could turn these photo's into 3 or 4 hundred. You can only edit the photo's at home, so if you want to do this do not buy the CD in the USA.
Also if you have a digital camera take a photo of the photopass number in case you lose it, you will then be able to show them the number and get all your photo's recovered. We lost one a couple of years back and took ages to finally recover the photo's. So now always take a copy of the pass.
Also ask the photographers if they do any special photo's.

That would have been correct for 2008. As on the first page of this thread, the $99 is if you manage get a pin code before you go (otherwise the cost is $149)

In respect of postage, it was only early last year that they started to charge for international postage.

Dizneemad's tip about snapping a shot of your card with the number is a good one, Or write it down.

Last year we met a mum and her daughter on the bus and decided to spend their last day at AK together. Our girls had their character shots taken and also posed for some together.

On the way out (EMH - around 10 pm) they decided to stop and view their pics quickly at the photocentre. Utter confusion! Some of our pics were on their card and vice versa. Turned out that at some point the CM with the cards had got them switched when returning them to us. It took about an hour to sort it out. Had we not done that, we would have both lost them as we had no way of contacting each other once they left the next day. It is not a bad idea to check your pics every few days

I also used a laundry pen to put my surname and resort name on the back of my card. People do hand them in.

I brought mine at the park last time and should have waited and brought the edited version when i got home. Either way its well worth the money and will be getting another one for our september trip.

That is good advice. My sister lost one during our last trip, about half way through the holiday and before we had bothered to register all the passes to the same account. Luckily we knew almost the exact time and place that she had had a particular photo taken, so we were able to go to one of the photopass desks and find it. After that they were able to put all of the pics from that card on a new card - but it was lesson learned as far as we were concerned

What they have given me is $50 off when I order mine. I used the 'CONTACT US' section on the Photopass site and quoted DH's name, the hotel we were staying at and our dates, also the booking reference number. Although others on here reported no joy we received the email with the code the next day.

Elaine, how far out from your holiday did you e-mail them? I'd like to try this - again!

I just wanted to let you know that I leave next Saturday and just got the discount code email today. It came in an email from Disney Destinations and the subject line was " Your Disney Vacation is almost Here!". It was not a separate email from photopass!

Elaine,

How soon before my holiday can I email them for hopefully a discount voucher?

I contacted them nearly three weeks before our onsite stay but was a bit worried I had left it late as it was only a week before we left for USA (we stayed offsite first). They replied either the next day or the one after with the code.

Hopefully you will get the email like Heidi did.

We did photopass Sept last year and I pre-paid $169 for the CD and photo book with a code - international shipping was free

I know it wouldn't work for some people but while we were there we gave my family our code and they logged in and kept a track of our holiday! We are a pretty geeky family and often do travel blogs but on our honeymoon I didn't quite want to dedicate the time so this was a great alternative!

I still had plenty of time when we got home to do the editing - in fact I was glad of the time limit as I am the indecisive type who would keep tinkering for ever and a day

In September we didn't see any photopass photographers in the water parks and they weren't always easy to find in the parks. We did some of the iconic shots a few times to make sure we got some we like and sometimes we asked the photographer to shoot a different angle - like on the bridge to Tomorrow Land where they stand to do castle pics we asked for Tomorrow Land in the background. They were confused but obliged! We only had one occasion where the system failed and that was our AK pics by Tree of Life - good excuse to go back :thumbsup2

We also found that it was great for character pics as being in a couple it was so much easier using photopass - I wasn't happy tho when we were waiting for Snow White & all 7 Dwarves at MNSSHP and they said no photopass :headache:

I loved photopass and would certainly recommend it to everyone :goodvibes

Thank-you Heidi and Elaine :thumbsup2

No harm in giving it a whirl next week at some point then :goodvibes

Heidi, have a wonderful trip!!

anyone with a professional camera ... opinion ... use photopass or hand over your camera so that they can take pictures of entire group (just me and a friend)????

both, the photopass is worth the money just for the magic pictures they do:goodvibes
handing over your camera also results in some nice pictures that you can have "instant" access to, rather than waiting for borders etc.
you can never have to many wdw pictures:laughing:

Can anyone tell me how to identify a photopass photographer. Is it the expected (carrying a digital SLR and wearing a nametag), or do they make themselves more obvious than that (if it's possible :) )

Also, do ride photos get included or do you have to get those separate?

Thanks

Here you go. There are photos of the photographers in their PP outfits. Also all the great photopass info you should need. http://www.stitchkingdom.com/disneysphotopass/

Apart from Test Track, where you can scan your card for the ride, the others have to be bought separately. About $23 each. :scared1:
