photopass

Walt Disney World Co. Cast Members statused to Disney Photo Imaging are responsible for providing Disney's PhotoPass Service, a service that allows our Guests to focus more on being in the pictures rather than taking them when visiting our Parks and Resorts. It is an Hourly Non Union role, with variable starting rates.

As part of this role, Cast Members are responsible for taking photographs of our Guests using digital SLR Cameras. This may involve carrying around camera and computer equipment in the sun for extended periods of time.

They are also expected to provide the same Legendary Guest Service that has come to be expected of all Disney Cast Members, approaching our Guests and engaging them in conversation, recognizing celebrations and performing Magical Moments.

In the course of their Photographer duties, Cast Members will partner with Entertainment Operations and Character Attendants to help take pictures of our Guests as they meet everyone's favourite Disney characters.

Cast Members in this position are required to meet monthly goals and quotas with regards to the number of pictures taken and quality of pictures taken. Cast Members are also required to upsell the Disney's PhotoPass Service and explain it's benefits to our Guests.

DPI Cast Members also partner with Merchandise Operations to help sell prints of taken photos at Merchandise locations throughout the Walt Disney World Resort. In this capacity, they are responsible for operating the Photo Computers and should be comfortable with that aspect of the operations.

Please note that this is a Global Position, and Cast Members statused to this role do have the potential to be scheduled to multiple Theme Parks and Resorts within the same work week.

My interviewer explained it as glenda did above.

Most of the time you are taking pictures for guests at character meet and greets and in front of memorable icons (the castle, expedition everest, etc). Pretty much anywhere you would walk past and be like "Oh this would make a nice christmas card", photopass is there for you! If you're the first photopass photographer a guest has encountered, you give them a photopass card. They keep this card for the entirety of their trip and hand it to each photopass photographer before they have their picture taken or before their character interaction. The photographer swipes their card (similar to a credit card machine) on a piece of equipment connected to the camera and gives the card back, then takes their pictures. When the guests return home, they go on the photopass website and all their pictures are in an online gallery where they can order prints, cds, and photopass merchandise (shirts, mugs, calendars, etc).

In addition to taking pictures for guests, you'll be manning photopass kiosks and booths and selling photopass merchandise which would be like mugs and tshirts with pictures from their photopass cards. This is unrelated to things like on-ride pictures.
