Photopass? What exactly is this?

It's one of the 2006 inclusions but I'm not sure I understand what it is.

Are these the photographers who take your picture when you walk into the park for the day? I really want one of the pics with Tink in my DD's hands - do they do this? Or are these ride photos?

And, do you sign up for this before you go or does the resort give you your card? Do you use the same card the entire time?

Sorry if these are dumb questions, I just really can't figure this out.

Photopass photographers are all over the parks - they'll take your picture as much as you want them to. The first time you have one taken, they'll give you a card that you then use every time you have a picture taken - that's how they track what is yours. Just make sure to get it back each time! Word has it (and you guys more in the know correct me if I'm wrong) that the ride photos will now also be available on your Photopass tickets - when you get home, you can order them online. I also read something about ordering the total CD of pictures, but I've not done that yet, so need some more info on that. Hope this helps some. :)

That sounds about right to me. We didn't use it but I really wish we would have. I didn't understand the concept at first, but you are under no obligation to buy anything. I would have proably got a few pics from our Sept trip.

The photopass itself is free. You might want to use an address label to identify it in the case that it is lost. I have purchased several pics online using photopass after returning from our trips. They are not cheap but they do have an occasional special. As for the Photopass CD, this is what I found:

Disney's PhotoPass CD Order Form

Please review this information carefully before placing your order.
Disney's PhotoPass CD is $99.95 and includes all valid photos from your Disney's PhotoPass card(s). Images will be in .jpg format and are high resolution (1.5 MB) so that you can obtain high-quality prints. You will receive copyright release documentation when you purchase.

Character signatures and borders are not included on the CD, even if you made edits to the photos in your account on DisneyPhotoPass.com.

Note that images that have been purged from our database will not be included on your CD and that photo processing is not included with purchase.

Shipping & Handling fees will be added to each order.

This website is separate from DisneyPhotoPass.com and orders placed on this site are separate from orders on DisneyPhotoPass.com.

Hope this helps!

We did the photopass CD on our last trip and we loved it. At that point they were still including all the character signatures and various borders. We have been able to do all sorts of neat things with the photos on Photo Shop. Another helpful hint is to write the photopass number down in a safe place when you get the card. If you lose the card or don't get it back you can still put that number in online and you haven't lost the pictures.

At the present time they only take pictures of tink if you ask, and only at the Magic Kingdom. Rides are going to be integrated into the photopass system. However, they just started this a couple weeks ago and the only one you can add so far is Test Track at Epcot.
