Photopass Superthread!

Hmmm... That's a tough one! Do you (or kiddos if you have them) love characters? It's more of a pay for the experience then the food for sure. For us Goofys is not worth it (we haven't been there), but Storytellers and Minnie's are worth it for us. We live the food at Storytellers and the characters were unusual and great with my shy DD. Minnie's has a LOT of characters as well! Goofys has the same 5 everyday now and they are ones you can easily see in the park or another breakfast with no line. The food is a big variety compared to the other meals, but with the picky eaters in my family pbj pizza and such isn't a big draw lol you will probably enjoy any of the meals but I would recommend looking into Minnie's or Storytellers as well (they are also slightly less expensive)
Where can i find what characters are at each? And best times? Is a certain meal (lunch or dinner etc) usually better somehow? Or is it best to go at the beginning, middle etc?

They all do pictures for the photopass? Do they take several if you have a photopass plus?

I believe there is info about all the character meals on a superthread- you could do a search. There are only 5 meals- 1 at each park (Minnie's and friends in DLR and Ariel's grotto at CA which does breakfast, lunch and dinner but is more expensive) and 1 at each on-site hotel (Storytellers at GCH, Goofys at DLH which does all 3 meals and is more expensive and Stitch's at PPH). Minnie's seems to be a more popular choice as it has a large number of characters (usually reports of 10+!) and they are always changing except for of course Minnie herself, although the food is a buffet and gets mixed reviews on if it's good or just ok. Ariels is all princesses and gets mixed reviews on both the quality of the interaction as well as the food and cost. Stitch's is the only place to meet Stitch and has a different food assortment as well but has a smaller amount of characters and does not seem to be as popular although I don't think I've seen many bad reviews of it honestly. Goofys has 5 set characters now and has the widest variety of food but people have been disappointed with it lately. Storytellers has a very good buffet and you meet Meeko from Pocahantas, Chip, Dale, both brothers from brother bear and I believe one other I am forgetting. You do not get pp photos at all of the meals, but I'm not sure from memory which has it- Storytellers does not. From personal experience we are returning to Storytellers this year due to the food and interaction and service and will be adding in Minnie's for the first time based on others recommendations and reviews. All serve breakfast but only Goofy and Ariel have lunch/dinner options, which makes them premium/more expensive. If you like to pre-pay or are going at a premium time when Disney might up meal costs you can buy character meal vouchers that include tax/gratuity on places like orbitz, etc. For most of the meals I would say it's probably always better to go earlier if you can- the first sitting of the day will give you fresh food, plenty of time and more interaction with the characters. However with that said I would say the only place that you will have an issue if you don't go early enough to is Storytellers as some of the characters leave to go to the park at the end of the morning. We are planning on storytellers on a non-park day and going around 8:30 am or so. We are not willing to waste our park morning at DLR and will be eating at Minnie's at 10 am or so- by all accounts for Minnie's it should not be an issue and we still get our EE (we stay on-site) and the first couple hours that are less crowded done in the park. Hopefully that helped a little and I'm happy to answer any questions I know the answers to :-)

At DLR, there is typically no ability to download most of your PhotoPass photos - just the CD. However, if something goes wrong with your CD(s), as happened to me, it can happen that the PP people can flip a switch on your account that makes it possible. I don't know if that's something you can call about if there was NOT a problem with your account.

I just bought the PP package a few days ago, but haven't revived my information in the mail yet. I thought it would work just like at WDW, so I'm a little bummed to know I can't download while on our DL vacation. Mostly, however, I'm concerned that the pictures arrive on a CD! We don't even use a CD drive on our computer anymore!!! I wonder if DLR is still selling their movies on VHS, too? Goodness!!

I haven't used this for a couple of years now but you should definitely be able to do digital downloads of the photos. You could 2 years ago, so not sure why they would take away that option! Unfortunately it is only at the end once you put in the code to purchase the 'CD', you can't download them during the trip. You can go online or into the photo store while there to check the photos and see how they turned out during your trip. You just wouldn't be able to share them.

Once home and ready to order you order the 'CD' but then have the choice of having it posted to you or downloading the photos. It does take a day or two until the download is ready but then you have them all. (Great for those of us overseas as it saves shipping costs! ).

They all do PhotoPass photos - except Storytellers. Also the PhotoPass photo at Minnie's does not have Minnie in it, it's just your group on the porch at Plaza Inn.

They do take 2 or 3 photos, I don't think it was more than they took of other people. In the printed package that you get you just get the same as anyone else buying the photos - so one of the images but printed a few times. But you will be able to have the others they took on the PhotoPass card.

I just looked at my PhotoPass+ CD pack that I received, and there is NO VOUCHER to exchange. What should I do?

It should have been attached to the outside of the CD case. I am guessing you have checked in the packaging as well?

You can call them and let them know and they should be able to fix it for you. Either send you a replacement voucher or a new pack. Since you have some time until your trip. Other people have reported that when they had ordered in time but the package didn't show up before they left home, they took a print out of the email proving they had ordered it and were still able to get the PhotoPass + card at the parks. So they should be able to sort it out for you

If it matters they are DVD's not CD's. And yes you can choose a download option instead of waiting for the DVD to arrive in the mail.
I have heard that you can view the pictures during your trip, you just can't download them until you are all done.

Wow that search took a while, turns out the person who started it made it "super thread" 2 words not one.
Anyway, here it is, it is for last year so I'm sure some stuff is out of date since the last post was summer 2014 (like no "real live" characters like Belle or Aladdin at Goofy's kitchen, and probably pricing), but it is a good start:

Oh so excited I just found this thread and read through it all GREAT info!!! Thankyou.
My question. We leave in 20 days is this cutting it too close to order the PPP for our trip? We live in Vancouver?

Thoughts?

Does anyone know if it's possible to cancel/get refunds on a prepaid PhotoPassPlus? I have prepaid a bunch of things that it looks like I may not actually need due to photo downloads being available for free to premium annual passholders.

I'm wondering the same thing. I ordered it on Thursday and now likely won't need it since we're planning on doing AP's and I will likely get the Signature Pass at least for me.

I think it needs to be 14 days but maybe call Disney just to be sure? 20 days should be fine though

Oh yikes! 2014 isn't much help now lol maybe post and ask about updated character lists? I don't recall them all and don't want to give you the wrong info. Goofy now only has the same 5- I want to say Goofy, Chip, Dale, Pluto and maybe Mickey? Someone will have to give you a better list then I recall :sad1:

Mine from our August trip arrived on CDs, not DVDs. Nine of them, actually. The Memory Maker pix from WDW last year turned up on DVDs, but I had to pay extra for that.

We just returned from Disneyland, and had the photopass+ and did Minnie's breakfast. We could view the photos online, but I didn't try to download them (so not sure if it was an option or not). At Minnie's they came by shortly after and gave us the physical photos in the cardboard sleeve (1 8x10 and a few 4x6 (least I think they were 4x6 :) )). We had a good time at Minnie's. As millie0312 said, try and get there early if possible. We were the 2nd one's there and greeted by the Fairy Godmother. With only one other couple there who had already been interacting with the characters, our kids were able to take a group picture with Pooh, Eeyore, Tiger, and Chip. Minnie came running over shortly after. Then shortly after that, Hook came out. My wife made the mistake of telling everyone to say "Peter Pan" when taking the picture, which Hook didn't like. Then my 5yr old son said should say "cod fish', which made Hook storm out of the restaurant :goodvibes and from outside through the window did the 'I'm watching you' eye thing with my son. Later on when he stopped back by, my son said 'Pirate's rule' which made Hook happy pirate:

I'm pretty familiar with the character meals, was looking it up for the other person who you suggested it to. I believe the sometimes 5th at Goofy's is Minnie. Bummed, I made an ADR there "just in case" but I'm really thinking about cancelling it. DH & I agree we'd rather do Plaza Inn twice, way more (and better IMO) characters for way less $$

I could have SWORN they were DVD's, so I pulled out my stack of PP discs from our last two trips (2013, & 2014) and low & behold I'm wrong, you're right, they indeed ARE on CD. I guess that explains why they needed to send me NINE discs last year too!

Please, those of you who will be getting Signature level passes with the free photopass photo downloads, let us know how that works. Will it include borders and edited photos, etc.? I'm curious because in the past, when I've gotten free download files of photopass photos, they've only included the original picture, and not any edits. I was thinking of getting a photopass plus for the holidays (I'm going right before and right after the two week blockout) and was trying to decide whether to get a PPP or just upgrade my AP to Signature. Thx

From what I can tell, you only get to download the photo as is. There is no option to edit the photo or add borders. The stock photos are also not included.

At the bottom of the page it says:
Purchase prints and products on DisneyPhotoPass.com.
You will need to sign in and link your Disney PhotoPass ID again on DisneyPhotoPass.com.

I went ahead and tried linking the Photopass ID to the DisneyPhotopass.com account and the stock photos, along with the options to edit the photos appeared. However, you have to purchase the print or download.

I am on the phone with the Photopass people currently. You are correct, no editing, adding borders, etc. with the Signature AP version. They say that is the only difference. They will refund your $ if you call and then send the voucher and the code back (you can keep the disc, this makes it much easier to mail). Call PhotoPass on 407 560 4300 Opt 3

Good to know. Thanks sgrap (and Figment). So I'll just get my PP+ as planned, and those who already ordered them and are wondering about refunds, they may want to think twice about that (because adding cute borders is the whole purpose of getting the PP+ to begin with) :D
