Photopass Superthread!

Here's a link to the thread I put together about current character and photopass photographer locations, but let me know if you'd rather that be copied onto this thread instead.

It should be in this thread as well as anywhere else. Any pertinent info about PhotoPass and PhotoPass+ should be in this thread, which is supposed to be a one-stop shop of info. Maybe you can copy and paste the info here?

Have any of you ever gotten the feeling that Photopass photographers resent taking pictures with your camera? Sometimes I swear they took low quality, blurry pics of us on purpose. Next time, I will take a look at the quality of the pic before moving on!

That wouldn't surprise me (that they resent taking photos with guests' cameras). The whole attitude has changed since PhotoPass+ came around. I know that since PhotoPass+ has been in the mix (as opposed to just plain old PhotoPass from previous years), I've noticed a couple of different photographers almost resist taking photos unless they see right away that someone has PhotoPass+.

A couple of years ago I met up with 3 people from this forum, and we all decided to get some group photos by the giant Christmas tree on Buena Vista Street. I was not using PhotoPass for my whole trip, but I did have one free PhotoPass picture that was part of my Paradise Pier Hotel reservation. So, we all met up and gathered by the BVS tree and began posing for photos. All of the other ladies (from this forum) were using PhotoPass+, as I recall, so the photographer had no issues at all with taking plenty of photos to add to their PP+ accounts, as well as with their own cameras.

On the other hand, because I was not using PP+, the photographer was not the least bit interested in taking a photo for me to have on my own camera, so that was out of the question. I spoke up and said, "But I DO have a free PhotoPass picture that came with my hotel reservation," to which the photographer kind of nodded and said "Okay." She was ready to dismiss taking any photos for me unless I was using PP+, but when I told her about my free photo she had no choice but to oblige!

Photopass Photographers and Character Locations - Spotted in July 2015

Someone in a Photopass Plus thread asked if there was any "definitive" list of both character locations and Photopass photographer locations. I've been tracking down as many characters and photographers as I could find for my own Photopass Plus experience this July 2015, so I thought I would share what I've learned and whom I've found in the last couple of months. There are a few gaps in my information, so if any of you can help fill them, please add what you've found this summer (2015) below and I'll add it to this listing. (This list does not yet include Holiday characters or Character Dining.)

Outdoor characters generally work 30 minute shifts and tend to rotate with other characters (*cough* or other actors *cough*) or take 30 minute breaks before returning. When temperatures are really high, they may only be out for 15-20 minutes. Most of them disappear before the parades and then a few will come back out after (sometimes only Mickey and Minnie). Character handlers with the square buttons that say "Ask me about Characters" usually have schedules on hand if you want to know when and where a specific character will be. However, if a character gets stuck in traffic, calls in sick, or has a wardrobe malfunction, their information may not be accurate. Nobody is outside when it is raining (characters or Photopass photographers).

When I mention a character has a photographer, I'm speaking about a Photopass photographer. Handlers will graciously take pictures for you with your own camera device, when they are able.

Most of the Photopass photographers who are not assigned to characters can do Magic Shots (Magical items or characters are added to the photographs). Although most can do "balloons" (a bunch of Mickey-shaped balloons in your hand), a few (without tripods) can do some really special shots. However, many of these shots have to be taken in very specific locations and can only be done if there aren't other guests in the way. If you find a photographer who is willing to do multiple Magic Shots, they may drag you all over an area just to find the right people-free location, composition, and lighting. Just do whatever they say, you won't regret the results. You may need to specifically ask for the rarer magic shots like Chip, Stitch, Olaf, other Frozen characters, Pascal, etc. Just don't be upset if they tell you they can't do one. Not all of them are trained or set up to do all the shots. Magic Shots can only be done in the morning and early afternoon when the light is right.

Disneyland

Entrance plaza, in front of Mickey floral:

Two photographers: one with tripod (magic shot: balloons), one freestanding (magic shot: Tink)

Various princesses, always random, standing at the sides of the Mickey floral near the tunnels (never with photographers or handlers) : Mulan, Ariel, Cinderella, Belle, Aurora and Snow White.

Main Street Square:

Mickey - often with photographer, Minnie - often with photographer (These two are consistently present throughout the day, except during parade times. In the evenings they are often together. They are always on the right side as you enter Main St. Near the Opera House and shops.)

Goofy, Pluto, Chip & Dale, Donald, Daisy rotate with each other (these generally don't have photographers but usually have handlers) - Currently these characters are wearing 60th Anniversary outfits.

Cruella can be spotted during one of the Firehouse band's performances, but doesn't usually stop for photos.

The Hub and Partner's statue:

Two photographers, one with tripod and one free standing, both have different magic shots (Tink or Pascal)

Coke Corner:

Mad Hatter and Alice play musical chairs with the kids (usually around 2 or 3 pm, ask the piano player). They don't really pose for pics at this point.
Occasionally Bert and Mary Poppins can be found in the area between Coke Corner & Jolly Holiday after musical chairs

Inside Fantasy Faire:

Photographers with each of 3 princess. Usually Snow White, Cinderella, Belle or Aurora (sometimes Ariel, rarely Mulan).

Outside Fantasy Faire:

Merida and Rapunzel (or Aurora or Ariel when the others are off that day) - usually with photographer and handlers

Wishing Well, side of castle:

Fairy Godmother, Aurora, Peter Pan (occasionally Captain Hook will swing by). No photographers or handlers. (Note that Aurora is a floater and fills in at various spots throughout the day. FG & Peter are not every day.) Peter has also been spotted near the Alice bathrooms and other areas of Fantasyland

In front of Castle:

Two photographers, one tripod (magic shot: balloons), and one free standing (magic shot: Tink) (Note that sometimes the free standing photographer can do a Chip magic shot if they have the time - depends on photographer)

Inside castle back courtyard:

Wicked Queen (no photographer or handler) She's also been spotted near the Alice bathrooms & by Small World.

In the area, usually near Sword in the Stone:

Roving photographer, tons of location options and magic shot options (balloons, Olaf, others?)

Characters spotted in Fantasyland:

Hook near Dumbo, Mary and Bert (strolling - will do autographs and pics if asked politely, but they don't stop walking), Alice and Mad Hatter near Tea Cups or strolling.

Mickey, Minnie, Chip & Dale, and Goofy in 20s dress (usually with photographers and handlers, spots by Elias & Co., the nearby garden, and at Carthay Circle restaurant)

Near fountain with Cathay in background:

Photographer on tripod - no magic shot

If there is a free standing photographer in the area, they may be able to do a "magic shot" of you in black and white with Pete that is quite nice.

Hollywood Land:

Olaf (with photographer near Royal Crown Theatre)

Anna and Elsa (with photographer inside the Animation Building - Fastpass required)

Sully outside the Monster's Inc ride (usually with photographer)

The Incredibles (Mr., Mrs., and Frozone) usually near Hyperion Theatre or occasionally near Restrooms between Animation building and Playhouse Disney (often with photographer)

Playhouse Disney kids (Sophia, Doc McStuffins, or Jake) outside Playhouse Disney (?with photographer)

(Photographers in the area, when not needed for characters, can take your picture with various backdrops on the street (the Hollywood background or with the trolleys). If asked, and able to set it up properly, they may still be able do a Frozen themed magic shot near the Royal Theatre, but only if there is no one nearby. They can also do a Stitch magic shot. In the past, there was a Mike from Monster's Inc. magic shot.)

Grizzly Peak waterfall:

Photographer (magic shot: balloons)

GP Airfield Airplane:

Pluto (with photographer). Sometimes just the photographer (no magic shots)

Wilderness Trail:

Along pier near Boardwalk Pizza:

Buzz, Woody, Jessie (usually with photographer)

Have I missed anybody who has been present this summer?

A few notes about photopass borders:

There are several dozen standard borders, 60th borders & Holiday borders that can be added to any picture. Some areas also have Inside Out borders. Carsland has special borders. Each of the 60th Anniversary photo ops has a special border. Most characters will have a signature you can overlay onto pics, and many also have special borders (especially the princesses).

I've had similar experiences as you and Sherry. I've found that character handlers will often take better pics with your cameras than the photopass photographers will, but then, we have to remember that the PP photographers only keep their jobs as long as people are buying the pictures. This is why you don't see them assigned to lesser characters, because guests are more likely to buy a picture of their kid with Mickey than with Pluto. I found this month, as I was trying to get as many PP pics as possible, both before and with my Photopass Plus, that when I put my own camera away, they took more pictures, because they knew the only way I'd see them is if I bought them. Having said that, I also think there are a few photopass photographers that are not very good at picture taking. I have several sets of PP photographs from the same locations, taken by different photographers (Like Fantasy Faire) where the composition of the pictures, and even the focus were vastly different (For example, pics with Belle taken on three different days this month, one set is perfectly framed in close ups, one set is all long shots, and in a third set, every picture is slightly crooked - haha).

We are traveling in a group, and have purchased the 1 photopass plus, will we get 2 cards so 2 separate parties can add to the same account if we split up at times?

No. Only one photopass plus card will be given to you, and you must have the card physically present to get the free character dining pictures or the ride photos. But you can put as many regular photopass cards on your account, and if your group takes a screenshot of the number of their ride photos, you can stick them all on the card later that day (at the ride photo location)

In June 2015 there was a photographer that took me and my son all around toontown to take lots of pics. Some magic shots with balloons and tinkerbell and other with funny faces or cute poses.

There is also a great photographer in Fantasyland that does the same thing.

So I apologize for what is likely a very over-asked question. I've read the first few pages of the thread and the last few, but haven't seen the answer I am looking for.

We arrive at DLR in a week, and I didn't purchase PPP. Now I wish I had. Is my only option purchasing it in the park for $30 more? There is no way to purchase it now and save that money? Ugh I was so focused on the first half of our trip that I didn't think about the DLR part until now. So we have to go to the location in the park when we get there and set it up, that's all we can do?

I wouldn't risk ordering it and having it not come in time. Not sure if there is an express shipping method. If that is an option you might be able to get it. When do you leave your house and when do you arrive at your hotel? My pp+ came in about 10 days but there was also a weekend and 1 holiday during that time frame. I live in CA.

We leave home in just under a week. Ugh. They should have an express shipping option. Or I should learn to plan ahead.

Also, how long will you be at Disneyland? It's possible you can have it shipped to your hotel and then by the end of your trip it should be there and you can add your photopass (regular) pics to the pp+ card. You can also go back to the rides with the ride #'s to add those too (not guaranteed to be there after 24 hours but they usually are)

Well that might work, but we will be heading home 2 weeks from tomorrow, so again I guess it is kind of cutting it close.

So if I buy PPP at DLR, we will have all of the same features and benefits, we are just paying more? We still get ride photos on there?

Oh and I'm not sure I understand the character meal photo part. Do we still have to pay for the character meal photos and have them added to PPP or are they included for free on the CD?

The PP+ benefits are the same whether you buy in advance online or at the parks. If you have your PP+ card already, then when you do a character meal, just show it to the photographer when they take your picture and to the person who brings the pictures out to you and you'll get both the physical pictures, and the downloaded picture you can add borders to online later for free. If you don't have the card yet, you can pay for the pictures and take the receipt to the photo shop and they will deduct that amount from the price you pay for the PP+ in the parks.

Hi all -- I have tried to search, but I have a question about the 14 day advance. I thought I didn't want PP+ but now I'm reconsidering... we will arrive 14 days from today. If I buy today will I be ok or did I miss the boat?
