Photopass + question

Hi all,

I just found out about the Photopass + change to a single day - such a bummer! I have already emailed my sadness about this to Disney and really hope they change it. I need to email them again to ask these questions, but I was curious if any of you happen to know the answers.

If you buy it for a day (or if you have an AP that includes Photopass +) do you still get the printed out photos at character meals or have they stopped that entirely and just give you digital copies?

I imagine we will just skip Photopass + entirely as there's no way I am going to try and get all my photos on one or two days of a 5 day trip (seems easier to just bring a better camera and have the Photopass photographers take photos with that when photo opportunities easily present themselves). Maybe I would spring for one day to get some nighttime photos. Hmmmmm.

If I do get the one day option AFTER my trip does anyone know if character meal photos will automatically be on there (I would think that would be easy). But what about ride photos - if I keep the numbers from the photos can I add them well after the fact? I have added them shortly after (if the person with the Photopass + card wasn't with the group going on the ride) but not after the entire trip.

I'm also curious if there are any other changes. I know the borders thing is gone (which to me isn't a big deal) but are there any other changes I should know about?

I really, really loved having the Photopass + for multi-day trips - but not so much to pay $200 for it when last year it was $75. The price hike just irks me. I'm curious if they make as much money from this now. I guess for people who have never paid it before maybe it doesn't seem so outrageous?

Thanks in advance for any info!

Amy

We ate at Plaza Inn and Goofy's Kitchen in April.

At both character meals a CM came around with a folder which included our picture printed out and a code for a digital copy. This package was an additional separate cost each time (I want to say it was $29.95 or something like that) It was not included in the one day cost of Photopass.

As for the ride photos, yes. Take a picture of the code with your phone, or write it down. Then you can add it via the Disneyland app. When you purchase that day's worth of Photopass pictures it will be included. I would add it during or soon after your trip, just to be on the safe side.

The cost of Pp was to download all the pictures for a particular day. No stickers or borders or anything special that I saw.

I agree with you about the price hike - especially since WDW memory maker is still a flat per trip/use fee. Our 3 day DL trip cost almost as much as our 5 day WDW trip in terms of photopass pictures.

Hopefully that helps. Have a great trip!

Dining photos (digital, not the prints) are included with the purchase of a One Day:

"Disney PhotoPass+ – One Day
Get all your Disney PhotoPass photos, attraction photos and dining photos from a single day as digital downloads to share with family and friends—including on social media—for one price. You even get Magic Shots and Animated Magic Shots included for the entire day’s photos!"

https://disneyland.disney.go.com/guest-services/photo-pass-service/

They are also included (again digital, not the prints) if you have an AP with Photopass:

"Disney PhotoPass Benefits for Annual Passholders
Unlimited Disney PhotoPass downloads of photos captured by Disney PhotoPass Photographers within the duration of your valid Disney Signature, Disney Signature Plus or Disney Premier Annual Passport. Your download entitlement also includes any Magic Shots, attraction photos and dining photos at no additional charge."

I would hope so after nickel and diming us to death! This is a very sore subject with me. I had written to them as well and someone even called me back but nothing was done about it except to apologize that "I felt that way". This will be my last visit to DL, it just becomes too much, with all the cuts in the parks and then this, it was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. Next year I'll go to WDW if, at all. At least in WDW they have free transportation from the airport, resort check-in for the flights, dining plans, Magic Bands and Photopass + for the entire stay. I loved it last year and was so looking forward to getting it for DL. I'll get it for the one day, which caused me to book my both character meals on the same day, one breakfast and one dining. Its the only way to make the one day PP+ be worth the $40. NOT the happiest place in the world for me anymore. If I hadn't bought the very expensive airline tickets to fly down there I would've cancelled everything. I'll get off my soapbox now, thanks for listening. :(

If the website is true then that stinks and we were misinformed by the CMs.

Both meals the CMs said the digital download was part of the prints package and not available separately. (we had them take a picture with our camera as well, so I wasn't too upset but thought it was a little odd..)

I am not happy either about the old pp+ being gone, I thought about doing one day this visit and try and get some magic shots but my luck I wouldnt be concentrating on that and wouldnt get them anyway

This truly stinks. I hate that they added such an amazing feature as PhotoPass then made it basically unattainable to the loyal park goer. I can't imagine with all the new restrictions that they placed on it that it can still remain profitable to them. I hope to see it revert back to the original deals. I mean, their photographers would really have to step up their game if they want people to pay per day now!

I remember your complaints. I posted in your previous thread when this came up before :). I was one of the ones who said if you go expecting to be disappointed, then you will be disappointed. DLR is not WDW. Each have their good points and their bad points.

I certainly don't feel nickel and dime, but I never utilized Photopass at all until they shoved it onto my pass I get. And I personally find DLR to be cheaper for me. But that's because of how I tour the parks. It'll be different for every person.

Honestly, doing two separate days for the dining would have been likely better (especially for your stomachs). The "in advance" price was $79. Doing two days under the new system would be $78. But that's your choice :). I also don't think it's worth it to waste time doing two character meals in one day when buying a Photopass. There's only the one photo. Everything else inside will be with your own camera.

This came up in the thread made by the user in the above quote. Someone was misinformed and walked away without their download code. If your character meal was within the last 45 days, I would contact Disney with all the details you can remember and see if they can locate your picture(s).

Because you were definitely supposed to get the code. I'm sorry to hear there are misinformed CMs giving out false information :(. I'm definitely keeping the exact pages bookmarked for future reference, though, if I happen to do another meal.

The digital code things seems to confuse a lot of CMs. We did two "package meals" - at Ariel's the Photopass Lady basically threw the leaflets at us after I showed her my AP. At Minnie's the Photopass Lady left with my pass and brought us back the leaflet along with a receipt showing no charge.

Neither of the pictures ended up on my account after adding the codes.

When I e-mailed in I was told the same that has been posted here, I would have needed to buy the Picture packages, otherwise they wouldn't keep the Images on the servers.

At that point I admit I lost my cool because I knew every word in that Statement was wrong. After I exploded it took 2 hours for the Ariel photos to be added. The Minnie photos showed up without comment 4 days later.

I'm just going to go back to handing them my camera or taking the pics myself. Its their loss. We used to end up ordering a photo books on top of the photo pass plus. Without the ride photos & character meal photos it would actually be hard to fill the book; and I can do it through snapfish or some other service way cheaper with my own pics.

Amen! The only set back is that with Photopass I get to be in the pictures. I can't tell you how many scrapbooks I have that everyone else is in so many of the pictures and you can count with one hand the pictures I'm in...:sad1:

photopass photographers will take your pic with your camera also so you can still be in them :)

I'm just discovering this also and can't get the page to load on the Disney website with the pricing details. Can someone clarify for me that the price is $40 per day? Is there any pre-order discount because if not I'm guessing it would be in my best interest to wait and see what pictures we get on each day of our trip and then decide which day(s) to order.

Just chiming in to say I was really disappointed to hear this, too. It more than doubles the price of PP+ for a 5 day trip. Not only that, but we've scheduled our one and only character meal on a non-park day, so that's a bad deal.

What I'm also going to miss is not having to take the camera in the park! We always took it the first few days but left it the last couple so we could just enjoy and not be worried about constantly taking photos since we had PP. It's a different experience.

From what I recall reading, there is no pre-order discount for PP+ anymore. When I logged into the Photopass site, the only options were for a one-day ($39), single photo download ($12.95) or expiration extension ($19.95).

Yes, that's correct.

Newbie to DL here. If I want to buy a single day of Photopass+, do I have to buy it before our trip? Or can I buy it after we cone home and I see the pics?

I have read on other threads that people have waited until after their trip to decide if they will pay for a day or two. Photos are organized by day (you would need to have written down the codes for ride trips if you want those added).

I agree with another recent poster that what I will miss the most is leaving the photo taking to someone else. If my kids didn't spend a lot of time looking through the photos from previous trips as much as they do I'm sure this change with Photopass would result in far less photos for us. Now I'm thinking maybe I would pay for 1 day so I could get high quality night photos in Cars Land (some of my favorites) on 1 of the days we have a character meal. But I am going to wait until after our trip to decide this.

I considered that approach. But if I'm going to pay by the day, I'm going to want a variety of photos from both parks. And I don't want to have to add strategy over photo taking to my "to do" list in the parks. Not to mention that in the end it's going to really tick me off to pay more for 2 days than it would have previously cost me for the whole trip before, including dining photos.

I completely agree - who wants to add in more logistics! I'm really curious how many of these one day things they sell. But maybe they are using it as a carrot to buy a signature annual pass rather than the cheaper one, and if that works, it benefits them. They clearly aren't trying to provide a helpful service to most of their regular visitors unfortunately. It's funny - so many other changes over the years at DLR haven't bugged me at all, but this one irks me so much - lol!
