Photopass going to $169

You can have more than one preorder credit at a time. I had two last year for a while in my account.

I have one credit now in my account for the fall, but I am thinking of preordering a second one for next year's trip.

When we've gone for a week long trip, I have had well over 100 pictures on my CD. Compared with the 25 or so you get on a CD from Sears portrait studio for the same price, I can't see complaining too much about this. All a matter of perspective I guess. Especially when they offer discounts like the pre-order. When we went to Beaches Resort (in Jamaica) their photo CD charged per picture, to get all of them it would have been almost $500! So I had to spend an hour in the photo shop weeding through them and still ended up spending more than a Disney CD would have been. Bottom line, it's still going to be a must-do for us every time!

Too bad about the 30 days. I knew once you loaded your cards, you only had 30 days then, but didn't know about only have 30 days to load your cards.

BTW HockeyMomNH...Your cakes are stunning. :goodvibes

I agree.

I can't see paying that price unless they make improvements to the system. In general when I took pictures standing next to the photopass photograher, mine was SIGNIFICANTLY better. I mean a very noticable quality difference.

And we had trouble even finding photographers! This was in July but I'd say only 30%ish of the characters had photograhers with them. Than they'd have the photographers at the main entrance points, and that was it.

Yup, same here. Significantly better is an understatement with many of them. We've had magic shots missing, glare, shadows, people in wrong positions, sun, etc., as that is the nature of the beast. You have thousands of potential subjects to photograph, and only seconds to snap that shot.

The other thing that I find silly is that people get excited about having hundreds of shots on a CD, yet it's the same shot, with just different borders. I think it gives people a false sense of value.

Have also noticed that there are way less Photopass CMs - we go during peak season as I'm a teacher, so we are there several weeks per year, during the busiest times, and there are less of them. Some characters don't have them, and some like the ones stationed around the park icons, stand around so much of the time in groups, waiting to snap photos.

I think the program is not as busy, and that is why we see less Photopass CMs, and thus the price increase. I think they are thinking that if you want it, you'll pay for it.

You can buy a nice basic digital camera for $169.00 plus tax! Tiger

Several threads on the Budget Board as well:

Price goes up March 21st
Preorder $129.95

Hope this helps, Tiger

You can preorder now, but you can only get a refund within 90 days of ordering the credit, so if you do it now, you will not get your money back if you decide you didn't want it.

That's good info, I didn't know that. We have never not ordered the CD when we had pre-ordered, but I just didn't know that part.

I also preordered for fall. We've been doing this for the past 5 years, I just ordered it a bit earlier this time around :)

Ok so is the pre-order price still $99 for now?? or has it gone up already?? Newbie here (as far as the photopass goes) :)

On which facebook page was this posted? I checked Walt Disney World's FB page and I didn't see it. I then searched Disney World on FB and realized that there are dozens of Disney World fan pages.

I have Walt Disney World (which appears to be their official one but maybe I've been duped), then a few of my favorite unofficial websites, like Dis, Allears, etc.

Thanks.

The FB page is Disney's Photopass Service

I have yet to see it officially announced that the preorder price is being raised. I have asked over on the budget board for a link to where that info can be found, but I have yet to be given one.

Does anyone know of a thread to see the Disney photopass photobooks that peple have made? I know the ones on the cruiseship were preety specific to which pics could go in on which page-like lots of characters-and now that I have 2 teen boys, yhat's not most of our pics.

I might just pre-order mine for next February. They don't expire if you don't add a photopass card, do they?

They don't expire whether you add a card# or not. Only the pics expire. The credit stays there until you order a cd.

All this talk about it going up, pushed me into buying mine now for our Oct. trip! We won't be there long....only 5 days, but I sure as heck don't want to pay $169 :scared1: I hope I won't regret the purchase!

OP, thanks for this info. I just pre-ordered my CD for our trip next month. With just me and DD going I doubt we would have many pictures with us together without doing the photopass.

They've priced me out at 169.
I will take pictures with my camera and make photo books. We go often and this is one expense that is totally not worth it to me.

I was at a photopass booth yesterday, talking to a CM, and she was telling me about a different price increase that's coming later this year (she didn't specify a time frame - just that the CMs are just starting to receive their training now)... It's a $199 purchase option (not sure if that's the pre-purchase price or not) - which includes all of your ride photos and all of your character meal photos... She didn't say anything about the book, so I didn't ask. But it sounded really awesome. Especially since I just paid $29.99 for our family photo with Donald - that could have gone on a CD... Plus all of our ride photos... I think I would pay that to have all those items on my CD.

Then again, this is coming from a CM... so who knows???

D~
