Photopass CD editing questions

I'm currently editing my pictures so I can order the CD. I read on another thread that I should be sure to save the pictures as 4x6 when I edit them but I can't see anywhere to do that.

Any suggestions?

The photos default to 4 x 6 until you add any borders or other things to them. Once you do that, you'll see the size change to 5 x 7 on the right side. Change that back to 4 x 6 and then save.

I'm just editing my pictures for the first time now. So if I have this right if I want a 4 x 6 picture I just add the border I want and then go to the box that says 'Order Prints' click the drop-down that says 'Product Type' and select 4 x 6? I think I'm confused because when I first look at the pictures it already says 5 x 7 in the 'Product Type' and not 4 x 6.

I had the same question because the order box is the only place I see a picture size.

As PP noted when you edit and add a border you automatically get the 5x7 size. You can save the different sizes on the edit screen. If you don't when you go to print the photo out in a different size you will lose the border because of the difference in aspect ratio.

I saved each photo with each border that I added in each size. When I got the CD I only printed out the 4x6 photos but I have them in 5x7 and 8x10 if I ever want them in those sizes.

But what are you clicking on the save them as different sizes? The only place I see photo sizes is in the order box.

Yes - the order box is where you change it. I know it doesn't exactly make sense, but it works. I did this for my photo CD (actually, saved both 4 x 6 and 5 x 7 sizes so I'd have options later.)

Thanks! I wouldn't have thought that was how you saved them! I know when I add borders I have to save it as a copy and then go back to the original to add a different border or the save button overrides the original change. Do I have to do that in order to save more than 1 size of a picture?

Yes - to save with the border as 2 different sizes, you need to first add border and save, and then go back to the original, add the border again, change the size and then you're good.

The first time I got Photopass I didn't know this, and I was really disappointed when none of my pictures with borders, etc. printed right. Now, it works great.

So, what happens if you only save it in 4x6 and then want to print out an 8x10? Won't it just adjust itself if it's saved at the highest resolution? For example, I don't save the pictures I take at any specific size and I can enlarge them no problem.

The problem isn't enlarging or image quality, it's the ratio of width vs. height. So, if you save as 5x7 and then print as 4x6 it cuts off two of the sides and you lose part of the framing you just added. I think the 8x10 is different also, but I don't remember which way.

Did you ever try enlarging without a frame? I know I didn't lose an edge with a 5x7 but now I'm worried as I just finished editing my photopass.

If you have kodak easyshare software (comes with kodak digital cameras) at home it is very easy to resize with that software. It resizes without cutting off the borders. The only software that I have that will work to resize photopass pictures. This way it saves lots of time while doing photopass because you do not have to save in every single size that you may ever want. I was getting really frustrated trying to do this with my printer software and thought it was impossible until I tried the kodak and it worked.

I am sure there is other software out there that will allow this as well but I know for a fact that kodak easyshare works.

If anyone needs help with this feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer any questions.

Kodak software resizes photopass the same way you would resize your own photos taken on a digital camera.

Most software for some reason does not consider the border as part of the picture it seems and therefore cuts it off. I think this is because of the way that photopass saves them or the software that they use. Hey they want you to come back to order prints from them you know.

As you said normally this is not a problem but for some reason photopass does not work this way on most software. As I said above the only software I have found to correct this issue is the kodak software that came with my digital camera. Change some settings in the software and it works with no problems. The pictures come out great in all sizes. I can take a 4x6 and make an 8x10 with no problem or any other size I may want. If you do not have this software play around with what you do have and see if you can find a setting that will work without cutting off the borders.

I just wanted to let everyone know there is software out there that can do this with no problems. Its just a matter of finding it unfortunately.
