Photopass book...

I'm looking at pre-ordering the photopass for $99 for our upcoming trip. I noticed there is a link for the Photopass cd and also a photo book for $149. However, in my hunting around the site, I'm not sure what you get in the photobook.

If you have made a photobook from the Photopass site, please tell me about it. How many pages? How many photos can you use? Can you use your own photos in addition to the photopass photos? Is the quality of the book any different from a book from Walgreens, Snapfish, etc?

I haven't gotten mine yet, so I don't know the quality, but you get a total of 20 pages. They have pre laid out pages, but I didn't find it very difficult to change it up quite a bit. (The only thing that bugged me was that there were no Tigger pages - and that's my DD's new love!)

I used both my own pictures and the photopass pictures.

I love my photopass book! Like the previous poster said, it's 20 pages, but you can add more pages for an additional cost if you want. There are various page layouts you can use, so the number of photos you can use will vary. You can use both the photopass pictures as well as your own photos that you upload. I'm really pleased with the quality and will absolutely buy one for our next trip too.

I don't know if it was a fluke or not, but we pre-ordered the CD & book before our 2008 Christmas trip, and I was able to do extra pages (I think about 10 before I quit) at NO extra charge.

We're getting ready to go again - in 2 days! - and I am banking on it being the same way. If not, oh well, but I'm sure going to try. I wish we could pre-order multiple books. We actually have 2 trips coming up - our anniversary for 4 nights at the Poly, and spring break starting March 18th at POR. If I wait to enter the cards from Poly, I'll be able to overlap the two trips & get it all on one CD. I would, however, like to have separate books. Oh well

I decided against it because I didn't like the limited layouts (which limit both the positioning of the photos and the number of photos per page) and backgrounds and because the number of personal photos is limited to 80 (or it was at the time). I did a 12x12 digital scrapbook of 100 pages with 500 pictures including my photopass photos. By shopping around I was able to find a coupon that I could combine with a sale so my total cost was only $75 much less than the cost of the photopass book would have been.

I want to jump in with what may seem like a silly question about the photobook.

Digital scrapbook, does that mean: the book itself is digital, as in, computer use only... OR just that the 'scrapbook' is computer created rather than actual use of scraps pasted into a book?

I recently ordered a photopass book from our December trip. It is wonderful. I also ordered a book from our anniversary trip in 2009. I believe they have a lot more selections now than they did in 2009. It was a process to make but worth the time and money. Actually I thought there were a lot of options this time. I'd investigate more on the Disney photopass site to see what they offer. I love mine.

The book is created digitally instead of using scraps of paper pasted in a book. There are multiple software programs out there that will allow you to do this. I used adobe photoshop, but creative memories has a program and there are a few others as well. You create the pages using the background you want positioning the photos as you like. Some programs such as Adobe offer unlimited options including the ability to have rounded or wavy edges or place them on a diamond or other crazy angle and to size the photo to any size you want like you would with a real scrapbook. By contrast most popular photobooks services (such as the disney photobook or snapfish or shutterfly) only allow you to place photos landscape or portrait and only in predetermined sizes. You can add clip art such as ribbons or cartoons or.... Titles and words are also unlimited you can ad as little or as much as you like. Some people like to journal on every page others like to have just a few words like a title. You can make the pages the size of any standard scrapbook or photobook pages then upload your pages to a photobook printing service, whichever is your favorite or print the pages individually (services like artscow print 12x12 pages individually and add them to a scrapbook album. This is a great way to creat a photobook over a long period of time. Some people who print the pages individually will also add standard scrapbook embelishments to the actual pages.

Hate to tell you, but it was a fluke (or a special Disney magic bonus). The same thing happened to me for our December 2008 trip. We have been back in May 2009, December 2009, and December 2010, and I have made books from each trip and have never been able to get extra pages without being charged since that 2008 trip.

FYI- this has all recently changed (except for the personal photo limit, but I want to say that may be 120 now). You can still access and use those very limited layouts if you want (and you can now edit them and move things around on them), but now they have a whole new creation system with tons of options. You can position and size the photos any way you want on the pages now. You can pick from multiple page backgrounds. You can pick from multiple "frames" for your photos or put no frames on your photos. You can pick from a ton of different decorations to put on your page (such as adding characters, flowers, text boxes, text). I have a couple of pages in our book from our recent trip that I actually fit 7 photos on of varying shapes and sizes. It is a little difficult to figure out the new system at first because they don't really give you any instruction, but once you get going, it is SO much better!
