We're going on an Alaskan cruise. What are our photo options?

Is there a package like Memory Maker, where I can buy digital access to all photos ahead of time?

If not how much of a hassle is it see and choose prints on the boat? Will I have a chance to see them after we get home?

Will photographers be available on excursions? I'd love to get pictures of our whole family with the sled dogs and don't want to rely on the kindness of strangers.

Just off the wonder. You can pre purchase a photo cd (saves some money) but you must purchase all photos on board. There is no access after you leave the ship. They are not on port excursions and unless the excursion takes there own and allows you to purchase, you will have to rely on the kindness of strangers which should not be a problem.

Prints purchased on board are spendy but you can look through them while on board and choose. We pre purchased the digital cd and all of the prints and saved about $60. The overall cost varies by number of days of your cruise. It was well worth it for us though as I did not want to carry our camera around and we came home with 203 prints.

May I ask how much the cd cost? We are cruising our Disney cruise in February (Fantasy)

Thoughts...
  • Photos are generally easy to review at the booths when on the Wonder. The booths are very busy on the final nights and debarkation morning!
  • On my trip.... photographers are not available on excursions I went on. Bring your own camera.
  • I was kinda surprised there are NO photographers at the sailaway party when leaving Vancouver. Bring your own camera. There are photographers on Deck 9 and Deck 4 when near Sawyer.
  • I recommend the photo package to save money compared to the stress of picking through individual photos..... especially if the kids plan to stalk the characters to see who can get the most pictures.

I purchased it on board (all the prints, but the CD is the same price) for $350. If I purchased it before the cruise, it would have been $300. Also I believe that instead of a CD you get a USB stick now.

Thank you so much! This is very helpful to the budget :-)

It is worth it. We went on our first Alaska cruise when Disney went out of Seattle in 2012. We got the disc and photos. It s was $350 back then for both. When we go home we ended up with about 400 printed out photos from our cruise. It was our first time

They say you can request a refund at the end of the cruise (debarkation day?) if you find yourself with insufficient photos.

Oh wow. I find it hard to believe it would be necessary, but good to know it may be an option.

I may be wrong as I am new to cruising. But, I believe a decision to cancel needs to be made the evening before the last day (disembarkment). From what I have read, that last evening can be very busy. You may want to review and decide before then.

That's a good point. I actually did not purchase mine until the day before debarkation. I wanted to insure that there was enough pictures before I purchased them. I also worked out a deal where my daughter's family got their's for half price since I bought my package.

One nice thing about Shutters is that you can review your photos whenever they are open. I looked at mine a couple of times a day. Since my memory was fresh, it was easier to spot missing pictures and it was easier to locate them.

the cabin card is the most accurate.... I went over to another cabin's dining table for a group photo..... I never got those pictures in my set. It proves the facial recognition did not work for me.

I did not use facial recognition either. If I was missing some pictures, I would just do a search for the activity and the day. Then scroll through the pages of photos until I found mine. It sounds like a huge amount of photos to look through, but its really not that bad. You will pretty much have to do that to find any aquaduck photos.
