I've looked into different courses, like NYIP, Better Photo etc. I've even taken a little course here at a Community College basically. It was a course that was once a week for ten weeks. I enjoyed it and learned a lot. Basically with my SLR, before then I only used it in Auto modes. This pushed me to learn more. I liked the classroom side of it, having someone critique my photos and ask questions directly. I then looked into a few courses at a store in Halifax (a 3.5 hour drive from here, and it's not a cheap drive with the Confederation Bridge toll!). My sister found this for me today, and it looks interesting. I can't sign up for it yet, because I'm waiting to here when in July my brother and his family will be home from Alberta. I don't want to be gone for 5 days straight while they're visiting with their six year old and newborn!
Anyways, here's the information on the course:
The photographer teaching the course is known and he`s good. You can google him and find his website if you`re curious. I`m just wondering what all you amazing photographers here on the DIS think of this course. I guess if anything, it would get me out taking pictures, and it would be nice to have someone talk to me and answer questions. $200 CAD for five full days sounds decent too.
Thanks in advance, and sorry this is so long!

Beyond the Basics of Digital Photography - Winston Maund
Have you ever marveled at the warmth of a summer sunset, the beautiful green and red rolling hills and the early morning dew before it is dried by the warm rays of the sun and wished you had a photograph of it. Now is your chance! This course is designed for those who would love to capture the beauty of the Island landscape, quaint fishing villages, coastal shores, historical light houses, Island wild life and natures floral gardens. Daily field trip in and around picturesque Rustico and areas. At least half of your course will be hands on photography and instruction in the field. Each photo trip will follow by in class group discussion, and evaluation of your images. You will take your images from camera capture to download to editing and output to print/ slide show. Basic editing with Photoshop and Photoshop Elements will also be covered. Be prepared for sun and rain -before sunrise and after sunset where the mood and the lighting are fantastic. The Island is a photographers paradise is a quote I often hear. There will be lectures on lighting and composition. We will be looking at the many aspect of how lighting effects the mood of the photograph. We will cover the basic rules of composition and how to make them work for you for more pleasing and eye catching photographs. Participants should know before they arrive basic camera operations, what each dial/ buttons does. Know your cameras megapixel rating and a little understanding about image resolution. Have read your camera manual. A DSLR camera is not necessary but would be an advantage. Any camera in the right hands can produce a well composed and well lit image. So lets get out and photograph the wondrous beauty of early morning dew, the rolling surf and nature at its best.
