Does anyone know if you can have a cruise photographer take pictures of you around the ship. We will be there on our honeymoon and would love to have some nice shots of us onboard, other than the shots they take in the evenings. We are eloping and won't have a real photographer there. Just a thought!

You should call DCL now and arrange for one. My friends did this for their engagement onboard (secret to her)....he wanted a photographer to take pics of them around the ship and he arranged it in advance. He also wanted Mickey and Minnie to be there when he popped the question out on secret Deck 7 aft and the cost for Mickey and Minnie for 1/2 hour was over $500.00!!!

Not sure if there was an extra cost for the photographer's services...I doubt it.

The photographers are all around. They will gladly take your pictures for you... at the pool, on CC, in the Atrium, everywhere.

Yep, photographers are plentiful. Just ask them to snap you and look for your photos the next day in shutters. They get some great shots.

Another suggestion...Invest in a good digital camera (one comparable in quality to the ones Shutters staff use) and ask others to use it on you. The camera will pay for itself (or pay itself down) with the money you can save on "professional" photos.

The most important thing in any camera is the lens. SLRs have big, fast lenses (lots of light in, less distortion of the image, wide variety of filters available, and the lenses interchange with film cameras (within limits) which lets you buy the optical zoom you want - digital zoom is worthless on a camera).

You can even get one for with a CMOS sensor/imager (faster, better power consumption, usually larger imaging surface so more pixels for less $). A good example is the Canon EOS 330-D Rebel which can be had for about $760

SLRs are bigger than compact cameras, but the bigger camera usually means a more steady shots (and the SLR is a faster shot so motion is less of a factor)

Here is a review of the camera I mentioned above:

Of course there are other excellent (and more compact) cameras for less, but many are not a SLR with a CMOS sensor.

Just a thought...

Good luck!

With all due respect, I think there's a huge difference in quality between a digital Rebel and the cameras used onboard, Nikon N90's if I recall correctly. Those Nikons are arguably better cameras with respect to capabilities and functions than a digital Rebel.

However, a camera makes not the photographer anymore than a bat and ball make a professional ball player. Given that you know something about photography, I'm sure you understand that good photos are a function of a good photographer and good equipment. Given good equipment to some random stranger will, more often than not, yield nothing more than uninteresting snapshops.

All that said, I still ask folks to take pictures of my wife and me using my equipment. I set up the exposure details before hand and offer quick instruction on composition. :D

So... it's not a bad idea to ask others for snapshots, but I definitely wouldn't entrust once-in-a-lifetime moments to them. Leave that to the pros.

I would suggest that you go to Shutters the first day & ask if you can arrange a photographer for this event. That way you wont have to wait around to find someone and may have time to tell them what kind of shots you are looking for.

I would definitely arrange it with DCL now, ahead of time. That way you will know one way or the other if they can accommodate you, and what the costs might be.

Go to www.image.com. This is the website for the company that hires the onboard photographers and runs Shutters. You will find lots of information there (they have a Pre-Cruise section) as well as the phone number to call them if you need more info.

Have fun. I wish I had taken more photos!:wave2:

They do offer that in the wedding package. As long as you didn't want it done when they were photographing a wedding, I'm sure they could do it. But beware, they are not cheap. We paid something like $350 for our package, although they did have one a bit cheaper then that.

I know it is possible to arrange special sessions onboard. We just returned from the Wonder and a very large group had arranged for a family session in front of Tritons with Ariel's statue. Well, everyone around saw how nice the poses were and we formed our own lines and asked the photographer to do the same shot for all of us in line. The woman who arranged the family session got kind of snotty but the photographer finished their "special"session while we waited and was more then happy to shoot the 5-7 families who waited. Pictures turned out very nice. So it can't hurt to call ahead or talk to Shutters as soon as you get onboard.

The phone number for image.com (the people that hire the photographers onboard and run Shutters) is 305-476-3666. Alex Melendez at ext. 112 is the pre-cruise contact. Or, e-mail them at CustomerService@imageservices.com. Check out their website, there is lots of info and FAQ there.

Thank you all so much. Now I have another excuse to save!

PS. I am in doin the double digit dance!!:hyper: :hyper: :hyper:
