Photo size problem!!

So I recently shot a martial arts championship a couple weeks ago and I am having a problem with the size of the pictures when I save them to jpg. I shot in RAW, processed with Photoshop Elements 5, and then saved as a jpg, but several of them that I saved are over 14MB EACH!! So in order to resize it, I opened the really large ones in Microsoft Office Picture Manager and changed the resolution from 4245x2820 to 4203x2792 and that cut the size of them in HALF! What am I doing wrong?? I shouldn't have to resize these jpgs.

JPG has a quality setting. You might have to expand one of the menus in the save dialog box or it could be in the program preferences...but if its set to 100 images CAN get huge. In general, the noisier the image, the larger it is.

For LR I set it to 87 and this gets me 5MB files from my 50D on average.

First... resize in Elements if you need to. No need to open it up and recompress that jpeg again when you save.

Why are you resizing? To make the files smaller to post online?

The pixel dimensions are not cut in half from what you have listed. Are you viewing at 100% or looking at the size in inches or what? Is the DPI (or PPI) increasing, because that will make the inches measurement smaller and make it print smaller.
