Photo Sharing: Ultra Wide Angle

Hi ,

I'm a bit of a lurker here on the US boards and whilst I have posted a few pic's I am not in the same league as some of the regular contributers on here.

What I would like to say is - please keep posting - everything you see - just the way you see it.

I have been completley inspired by you guys on here - you are the reason that I got back into photography last year.

I used to be an SLR nut - back in the day when my Olympus OM2n was state of the art :rotfl:
Since having a family I just stuck to a PnS (mainly thru cost issues) - but I stumbled upon the photography board on here a couple of years ago and I am now learning the art of taking photos all over again.

I dont have a DSLR but I do love to drool over them on-line and in catalog's;)

I have purchased the best camera that I could find with the funds available ( if I had got what I really wanted then trips to the World would not be possible!!!) and think I got what is right for me at the moment while I re-learn the intricacies of shutter speeds, aperture setings, white balance etc.
It has all of the functions of a DSLR and a great lens - so if the picture doesnt come out right then I know its me and not the camera.

I have produced a few very pleasing shots (for me anyway) and I also have a huge pile of junk that helps me learn what not to do!

But I liken photography to a game of golf - in a round of golf you can skew the ball off the tee into the rough 9 times out of 10 (at least - I do...!) - but when you hit the ball with the driver in the sweet spot and it sails down the fairway for 250 yards in a straight line - that's the shot you remember from the day.
Similarly - when I reel off a hundred shots around one of the theme parks - there's probably one shot that I look at and think - 'Hey - that's eaxactly how I saw it - and meant it to look!'
There is a huge satisfction and personal reward in getting that shot.

All I can say is WOW.
You guys are fantastic.

Tom - I love your exposures and post process techniques and I have followed you and your lovely wife's many trips to the world with great interest.
(Congratulation on your recent marriage and passing the Bar by the way:thumbsup2)

There are many inspirations on these boards - there are people who take pictures of the flowers in their gardens, there are the HDR's that somtimes amaze and sometimes look just like an oil painting, there are the posing pets, people's kids, everyone going about their daily lives, and then there are the Disney photo's which is why most of us are originally here.
I love the diversity and find inspiration from each and every one of you.

I peronally don't feel the need (or necessarily have the eye or the ability) to give constructive feedback and I also probably don't give enough praise where it is due.
But I am sure that I am not the only one to 'sit on the sidelines' and soak up the brilliance that you guys produce.

Please - Keep them coming -

We are off on our 7th trip to the World in two weeks time and photography has given me a renewed interest and love for staying at Disney.

You never know - I might even get to post a few when I'm back?

Milly, I couldn't have said that any better even if I tried to. Beautifully put. And don't be afraid to post pictures on here because we LOVE to see them all!! :thumbsup2 I remember posting some of my first ones:scared: and then look at to where I have grown today and it's slowly coming along (but with plenty of room to grow.) So as Dory would say..... "Just keep posting, just keep posting." Ok maybe she wouldn't. BUT SHE WOULD IF SHE HAD HANDS AND A CAMERA!!

Wow, I've missed a lot on this thread lately.

Here's an UWA for today

LOVE that shot Todd! Great composition and colors!! :thumbsup2

When I was shopping for a DSLR I missed a deal I have regretted (somewhat) ever since. At a local pawn shop they were selling a DSLR EOS, but not sure which one, and it was of course used. It came with a very nice bag, 4 lenses, and lots of little extras. They were only asking $160 for the whole lot. I came back the next day with cash and it was gone.
In a way, I'm glad I missed it. There was positively dust in the camera body. Not sure if it was anything serious, but still a little was there. And with me being a noob, I wanted to start with a BRAND NEW camera so I knew any issues were probably me, and not the camera.
Then I saw the ad at Walmart for The Pentax K-x, with HD video, built in creative color and fisheye filters, stabilization in the camera, (not the lenses), and the fact that I could use any Pentax lens EVER CREATED with it (Mr Craigslist / flea market / yard sale... real incentives there for me), and it was less than $500...... AND IT WAS BRIGHT RED COLOR!!!!!! Debate was over!
But my point is watch the pawnshops. Sometimes they are more than new, but you could find a lot like I passed up as well. No one there knew enough to tell me if it was a serious issue. Given the chance a second time I'd have bought it anyways. But live and learn.

Used to feel that way too. Now I have come to the conclusion that I'll treat camera bodies like cars in the future -- unless I'm making boatloads of cash, I'll only buy used. Camera bodies are updated so frequently, and they certainly don't appreciate in value. Therefore, I'll apply similar research to buying one that I'd use looking for a pre-owned car, and save a lot over a brand-new model. My current camera is a D300, and I bought it lightly-used (fewer than 1500 shutter clicks) and saved about 40 percent off the price of a new one. And it was still available new at the time!

I don't remember seeing this in EPCOT. Where were these taken?

VERY nice, Todd. How many shots did you use to create this and how much of an exposure difference did you use? For some reason I didn't see that on the Flickr. :thumbsup2

Thanks! This one was 5 exposures (-2, -1, 0, +1, +2) with the top section of the Tower layer masked from one of the single exposures. I've never been able to get the Tower looking believable from a merger of multiple exposures... it always comes out overexposed and some form of a nuclear blue/magenta color. The sky was also overexposed so I also added a layer mask to adjust exposure just on the sky.

Due to "New Flickr" disabling one of my favorite scripts, I can only post medium sized images here now. This one really needs to be viewed large, so I encourage you to go to its Flickr page and do so there (click it to do so). It's a 3-image Panorama.

Is this HDR'ed? It's gotta be! That is AMAZING.

What time did you have to stay until to get MS that clear?!?!?

Mind if I ask about the EXIF data? I can't find it on Flickr. What lens did you use?

I'm starting to have UWA lens envy!

Thanks!

Well, it is three exposures, but it's not HDR. The three exposures are due to it being a panorama. Off the top of my head, I think the EXIF is like 3s, f/8, ISO 200. It's not on Flickr because EXIF gets stripped from panos in CS3. I used the Tokina 11-16 to take the shot.
