Good point. Don't think I ever even tried with Dinosaur.

I'm sure the Pan shots will look great after some careful noise reduction. If you send me the raws to play with, I've wanted to try a couple different NR methods.
I want to try duplicating the shot into a second layer. Applying extreme noise reduction to one layer, but then masking our the subject. (applying only moderate noise reduction to the subject). That way, the background gets extreme noise reduction, without any concern for detail loss. While the subject still preserves lots of detail.

Was my first go around shooting Dino but was also my oldest daughters first time on the ride so I was trying to hold her with one arm and shoot with the other lol.

Ill send you them over later. I use the high pass method in CS5 which sounds similar to what you have in mind but to sharpen. The original I add some noise reduction to and then the top layer gets the sharpening.

Wow, you whipped out your A99 in Dinosaur? Kudos to you! I was always afraid I would end up with a bloody nose or knocked out tooth if I tried that ( and that's with an NEX ).

I would love to see the pics - please post when you get a chance. I can honestly say that I've never seen anybody post pictures from inside Dinosaur.

I did see that shot yesterday but never put it together. I guess in my mind I never thought it would be possible to shoot in that ride.

I think you're going to have some of the posters here adding the a99 to their wish lists.

On another note, supposedly the Sigma ART 24-105 f4 will be out for Sony in May.
Between price, features and the reviews of the other mount versions of the lens, it might be the ideal walk around for the a99.

$899

Not super cheap, but in perspective, it is the same price as the Sony 28-75 purchased new.

The Sony is 2.8, while the Sigma is f 4. But the Sigma is wider, AND more reach. The Sigma has a silent motor and DMF compatibility, both lacking in the Sony. And where the Sony generally gets good IQ reviews, the Sigma gets spectacular IQ reviews. Many of the reviews of the Sony are that it is very good as long as you stop down to f 4. The Sigma reviews are that it is already exceptional at f 4. So really, the only advantages of the Sony, are 2.8 capabilities, and some in-camera support.

Eventually, I'll strongly consider moving from the Sony 28-75 to the Sigma. AF-D support would be one of the things that could hold me back a bit.

And if you have made anyone lust after the a99, price is finally getting reasonable..

I like the composition, but it's pretty noisy... did you do any NR or is this basically SOOC?

Realized I have the identical shot with the RX100... Yours is definitely superior, but that's to be expected with the Sigma 1.4 on full frame as compared to the RX100. But I'm guessing you increased the exposure in post? That explains the noise levels..
