Really? I kind of like the hat. Every park needs a centerpiece attraction. What would you have there if not the Hat?

This worked for me!

I remember when the water tower was the landmark for the park. Now you can hardly find it.

Hi everyone....it been a while since I posted here but I am always reading posts and looking at all the great pictures on this thread. I have gotten some great advice and thank you all. But now I may need some help in finding missing photos. The story is this, I have a sony nex-5 & I purchased a PNY 32gb 1080p HD video card. I did not bring my laptop to offload pictures thinking I would offload them when I returned from my trip. after 7 days of taking well over 600 pictures and about 10 videos, my camera would not let me take a video more than 3 seconds long and would then just freeze. I could not get out of the movie mode nor could I shut the camera off unless I took the battery out. Once I put he battery back in, I could still see and play all of my photos and videos. My brother in law was traveling with us and his family and took my card out of the camera to try and upload the pictures and videos on his laptop. He could not upload them, it kept saying the file was corrupt. I put the card back into my camera and it asked if I wanted to format it (I said no & by the way this is the first time I have ever seen that message) and then another message came up up saying "cannot read card" I went to Best Buy after I got home and they said there are no videos or pictures on my card & I sent my camera out to be looked at. Sorry for the long story. Anyone here experience this? Anyone know something that can be helpful? Are my pictures just gone? :confused3 Thanks so much in advance for your help.

I also had a problem with my NEX5 once while at DL. The camera started acting up after a CM took a couple of pictures for me. It was also with a different type card than I had ever used before and I decided not to use it with the NEX after that. Anyway - here's a link to a thread with some suggestions for recovering photos. I've used both the Zar mentioned (which was free to recover photos but I think you had to pay to recover other types of files) and the Sandisk recovery. I successfully recovered photos from the NEX but one of 3 computers I tried the card on finally recognized the card - (or it may have been it recognized it when I used a card reader to insert the card - it's been awhile ago) so I could at least access it. I've also recovered photos after formatting a card so as a last resort you could do that and then put the card in a computer and try the recovery.

Maybe someone else will have some other suggestions but good luck! I'd bet you have a good chance of getting some and maybe all the photos back.

i am new to photography but absolutely love it lol

im wondering what is best to learn on? A nex? or sony dslr?

i love all the sony alpha photos here!!!

I should also mention:

I have two babies, and a huge amount of crap i already carry (which is why the NEX appeals to me lol)

But i dont want to sacrifice too much by way of image quality.

I am extremely interested in taking landscapes photos (especially in disney) but I also love taking pictures of kids and macro shots as well.

I dont want to spend a fortune as this is my first real attempt and if i end up sucking out loud, it wont be too much of a loss hahaha

I tried the Nikon J1 and didnt care for it. I now have the Nex 5R and i LOVE what I am seeing so far but I am concerned about its longevity if I improve at all lol....in other words...any pro shooters use/like the Nex5?

thanks guys!

I'm not a professional, but I am rather experienced with Sony cameras. Though I haven't personally owned a Nex camera, I am rather familiar with it.

The good news -- You're not really missing anything. The Nex 5r matches the top of the line Sony dSLT-crop camera for image quality. In fact, in some ways, the Nex 5r is superior --- a problem with the dSLT is losing some light to the translucent mirror, hurting noise performance. So the Nex 5r may actually perform slightly better than Sony dSLTs in terms of noise.

The "downside" of the Nex -- You have less lens options, unless you add an adaptor. The good news, the system is becoming so popular, that lots of brands are making adaptors.

Traditionally, the dSLTs were also superior at fast focusing than the Nex, but the Nex 5r uses a new focus system... so that might be changing the game. (You tell us, how is tracking focus, how fast are you finding focus on moving objects?)

I don't see any compelling reason to trade your Nex for a dSLT. If you didn't already own the Nex, I do see 1 significant advantage of a dSLT/dSLR, especially for someone serious about learning photography --- While the NEX has all the manual controls of a dSLT/R -- they can sometimes be hidden. Manual controls are typically laid out much better on a dSLR/T. Which can certainly help master photography.

The other advantage of the dSLT/R -- is a viewfinder. Composing photos on a viewfinder can be superior to using an LCD screen.... especially in bright light. (You can get an electric viewfinder accessory for the Nex)

So really, that's the big difference between the Nex and the DSLTs-- ergonomics, layout. The possible need to add some accessories to the Nex (like a viewfinder accessory or adaptors for some lenses).
In terms of performance and image quality -- You're really not making a sacrifice.

Don't worry - I can assure you that you will never get so good that the camera will limit your photography potential...the camera just becomes much more capable as YOU become much more capable - there are few limits to the camera's ability that aren't within the photographer. The only thing that you might find is that if you decide to get into certain types of photography, there may be better camera choices out there to use due to these cameras being designed to make that type of shooting faster or easier, or due to the access to much more expensive and specialized lenses. Motorsports and professional team sport photography, professional nature photography, professional portrait photography...those types of areas would usually be better served by DSLRs and the extensive accessory market and lens market they have available to them. Even then, many of us who are professionals or semi-pro continue to keep the NEX as a second camera system alongside DSLRs, because there are always times when the weight and size advantage are desirable, and there is no loss in the image quality potential.

Even in those very special types of photography, the NEX can be used if the photographer is skilled and knowledgeable and the right lenses are used - a DSLR just makes it easier or requires less effort, and has better control, speed, memory buffer size, and battery life. I shoot lots of wildlife, especially birds in flight, which are definitely easier to do with a good DSLR and a good prime lens...but that doesn't mean I can't also do these with my NEX-5N...I just have to put a little more skill and elbow grease into the process to get the good results, and accept a few limitations inherent in the smaller body design.

My NEX-5N and my Alpha A580 work side-by-side, compliment eachother very well, both have the same image quality potential, both have specific advantages over the other, and both have been splitting my photography duties almost equally over the past year or so!
