Alright Mike, I'm back in Sony Land. I'm not sure if I like this shot or not. Maybe I should try it without the water droplets.

Nex 6 + 16-50 power zoom

Amazing shot Harry!! The color is great and the soft shadows and smooth bokeh make the composition really standout. Personally i'm digging the water droplets too!

Harry... the shot really is incredible. How did you light it?
The more I see shots like that come out of the NEX, I really wonder how much longer Sony will make "dSLRs" (Guess they technically already stopped).

I just used window light with a white diffuser. The Nex is soooo much better for shots like this than my K-5. The live view and focus peaking is just awesome. From what I read, Sony is doing away with SLT in 2014. The next series will be all mirrorless.

That's the rumor. Though supposedly it will be a "dSLR-style" mirrorless using the A-mount lenses. Certainly hope that my vast collection of Minolta lenses don't become nearly worthless.

I'm very tempted by the current price of the A77, my A55 doesn't have focus peaking.

Focus peaking is an awesome feature. Sony did it on the Nex line, now everyone's jumping on the band wagon. Sony is very innovative. I just hope they have sone serious advance in focus if its CDAF.

So call me naive, but what exactly does focus peaking do?

Using the live view, it highlights the in-focus area in a bright highlight. Very helpful for manual focus. I have it in the rx100, where it's less important since I'm not usually dealing with narrow DOF.

So I finally gave in and bought an NEX 5R. So far a really like it a lot! It's been a long time since I've shot with anything other than a point and shoot so its going to take a little time to get back in the groove:) The first thing I want to do is ditch the kit lens. Any suggestions for my first purchase. I'm going to wait a little bit until they have another employee sale so I have some time to figure out which one to get. I'm leaning towards a 50mm prime but would be interested to hear your thoughts. I also definitely need to get the viewfinder. In hindsight I should have paid a bit more for the NEX 6 with the viewfinder but too late now.

Here is one of my first shots with the camera. I really need to find a better photo sharing website because photobucket reduces the quality when you upload photos. Any suggestions for that as well?

Flickr allows full resolution and is probably one of the easiest in terms of photo sharing. And critically, they just updated their model so "free" accounts now get a massive amount of storage. Until recently, free accounts were rather limited, but they now get enough memory to store hundreds of thousands of photos. (I have 5,000 photos uploaded or so... which uses less than 1% of my allowance).

I actually have a Flickr account that I haven't used in years. It looks like its time to bring it back to life. Thanks for the tip!
