I attended a small fundraiser for the MDSC (Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress) that featured self-advocate Karen Gaffney. Karen is a swimmer. Last fall she swam 5 miles in Boston Harbor to raise awareness for individuals with Down syndrome. She also swam the English Channel in 2001 as part of a relay team. Another big swim of Karen's is a 9 mile swim across Lake Tahoe in 2007. What is even more amazing is that her left leg is all but cripple. She walks with a very pronounced limp and cannot run. She has had 5 surgeries to try and help get it better. She only uses her right leg and her powerful upper body when she swims. She currently swims 2 hours a day 5 days a week.
This lens gets a bad rap but it's my favorite. This Yellow-billed Stork from Disney's Animal Kingdom was taken at 200mm with the 18-200VRII lens. Not bad for a hand held shot at 1/25th of a second.
