I moved this over from the tread I started cause I forgot about this one. Figured it was a more appropriate place to post. I did some changes with my editing from a suggestion on the last thread. I wanted to post em up and see what everyone thought! Any opinions are more than welcome!

OLD POST:
Hi all,

I was messing with my wife's T2i and the 18-135 canon lens. My 7D's battery was dead and I never play with her camera so this was my chance. These were taken in out front room which at a 12' long window. Lots of daylight coming in and I used the flash to fill. They were shot at 85mm in P mode.

Anyway, I am thinking her cheeks are a bit too red? I also would like to soften her skin a bit. I'm using lightroom2 and the nik software suite for editing. any other opinions are totally welcome. I don't mind anything if it helps me in the future with shooting. feel free to tear these apart! LOL

thanks,

here ya go,

I really hope you don't mind that I did this, and I'll definitely delete the pictures right away from my computer after you see them. And they're set to Private on my Flickr page, so no one else can see them. But since you asked for suggestions, I thought that I could use the pic to test what I had in mind. Again, totally sorry if this was a problem. And I WILL DELETE it real soon.

This was done in Lightroom 3, but with the same functions present in LR2. One thing I did was to reduce Clarity of the picture a little. This softens everything though, and not just skin. But from what I've seen, it seems to affect skin a lot (i.e. a moderate increase in Clarity won't look too good when dealing with portraits, but will have a moderate positive effect on other subjects). Just play with that setting some, and you'll see what I mean.

Also, if you sharpen the picture in the Details tab, be sure to add some Masking. This will basically sharpen the lines of the subject (eyes, eyelashes, hair, etc) but make the skin softer.

As far as working on the cheeks, I used the Brush tool on them. I decreased Saturation and Clarity. But bumped up Brightness a bit.

Deff don't mind at all! :) I did kinda the same stuff. I took the clarity down but I guess not as much as u did.

Can U explain what u did with her cheeks with some detail? I'm always afraid of using the brush tool.

Also how did u get it so much brighter without blowing it out? Mine is so much darker?

Thanks so much for this. it gives me some thoughts now to move forward.

I did learn that the clarity tool is great for skin and also bumping down vibrance is also great for cheeks and faces without messing things up too much. But would love to hear about the brush tech.

thanks again!
