Photo scanner

I am looking for a photo scanner to scan all my photos to digital. Does anyone know of this scanner or can they suggest one.

I have a pandigital, you did not specify which one you are looking at, and I don't really know which one I have. I bought it for scanning photos, It has an auto feed, you just push the pictures thru the scanner and they come out the other side. Instructions tell you to place ALL photos in side a clear carrier bag, but I only used it for a few that I knew were delicate. Pluses, it works as described. Pictures are great, it stores each one as a separate file. I can either take out the SD card and put it into my computer or hook it up to the USB.

downsides, It only works for 5X7, thicker card stock ( older photos) won't work for this. Sometimes I can see a small line on the scanned picture.

I ended up purchasing a Viewpoint handheld flat scanner also. It can scan any size picture any thickness, thru glass or even a photo album. Even one in a frame on the wall. The downside of this scanner is that you are the scannning mechanism. You control the speed and it's kinda hard to get the hang of it. Also, pictures or documents that are scanned are scanned at the full 8.5X 11 size requiring cropping each time, (or maybe I just dont' know how to set this up right) for pictures that are smaller. The picture resolution of this scanner is a bit better, but the other smaller one is much easier if you have loads of small snapshots to scan. Together these both have their places.. I'd hate to choose just one.

I scanned all the photos in my MIL's house when we cleaned it out last year- cartons full of albums. We had brought our scanner, but it wouldn't work for some reason. It ended up ok, because the one at MIL's house had the option to scan directly to a camera card. It was SO much faster than having to go through the computer. I'd lay out as any pics as I could on the scanner- click it right to the SD card. Take them out, repeat with next ones. Alot faster- I never could have gotten them all done going through the program for my scanner.

The Epson Perfection V300 is an excellent flatbead that will handle slides and negatives, too. It runs about $60 online.

I think I have decided to go with the Epson Perfection, but not sure which one. I have a macintosh, so need one compatible. Now its should I spend 60 or 180 for a scanner. I want to be able to make shutterfly books for my kids with their baby pictures and family vacations.
