Photo package

I do not feel it is worth the price. However, my wife loves it. Therefore, we get the complete package.

:)

If you know that you are buying the package ahead of time, you can get more pictures taken in the evening, etc. If you are not going out of your way to get photos taken, then you don't have enough to justify it.

Yes, but we dressed 15 minutes early for dinner every night and stopped by the lobby to get some pics taken on the different backgrounds. We used to visit a studio for family pics once a year or so, now I plan to get the photo package once every year on DCL instead

We got the all digital package with the discount for pre purchasing. For my family of 4 with DS7 and DD3 it was worth it. For one week on the Fantasy, we got 321 pics. Half were family pics and the other half with characters. I highly recommend taking photos on one or more of the casual nights, the photographers seem to be less rushed and lines not so long, and with the right photographer it can feel like a private session.

We had over 300 pictures on our last cruise which was a 7 night on the Fantasy.

To me it's worth it because I can be in the pictures, I'm normally the one taking the pictures. Plus we have an inexpensive point and shoot, so the pictures don't come out post card quality.

The pictures have always come out well for us and we always use one for our Christmas card.

Instead of taking pictures at the Meet and Greets, I use my camera to record the interactions. I let the CM know it's recording and they continue video taping.

You can always purchase the package and then return it on the last night if you decide the pictures were not worth it.

Cheers!
Manny

Can someone remind what the package are and pricing? I'll be on the Fantasy come April (7 nights).

For me, no. I use my phone for pics, and CMs will take a photo of you with your phone during character meets if you ask them. I looked at the Shutters photos during our first cruise and liked our phone photos better.

If you cruise DCL again, you can use leftover photo credits. For example, we bought a 10 photo package a few years ago, and redeem just 1-2 photos/cruise. Last October, the Shutters staff remarked at the photo card from 2013:)

We buy the package every cruise. Our first cruise (5 years ago) we only got the 10 photo package and boy, was that a tough choice. Since then we've always gotten the everything package and it's SO nice to let them do the photos!

I wish Princess cruise lines have photo packages....

I'm so glad DCL offers them.
  • if you can't decide which photo's to keep... get them all!
  • when kids have competitions on who can get the most photo's
  • when it's hard to get the family together for pictures... it's nice there's the ship photographer there

I'm so glad Princess changed their policy. It's been a couple of years since I sailed with them.

Hmm... my last trip was a 3 day repo. I guess that is excluded in your list.

Maybe they feel the shorter cruises don't generate enough photos to cover the cost. :confused3

I don't think they are doing to all prints anymore. We have been on 4 cruises and always do the photo package and on our last cruise the All Digital was on a USB drive instead of the CD and they were not printing any pictures except what was ordered. They got rid of the library of folders and added more kiosks for looking at them electronically. On one hand we really enjoyed getting all the prints but to be honest we did not really do much with them so while I was initially unhappy that they were no longer included it ended up being not a big deal.

It is just my husband and I and we think of the photo package as a trip long excursion. We are not good at taking pictures of each other. Even when we take turns the two pictures don't even look close because my husband and I are not similar photographers. But when we have the Shutters folks take the pics then we have similar pics of each of us and pics of us together. When it is our turn then I go in and get a few shots taken then he joins me and we have a few couple shots and then I step out and he gets a few shots taken.

We like to get pics with the characters during the day and then we take all of the "Lifestyle" backdrops every evening. If you get there a few minutes before the scheduled time then the lines are not very long and you can be done with that one and on to the next one within about 15min. We also really enjoy chatting with the "Handlers" while waiting for the characters and chatting with the folks around us also waiting for pictures.

I'm personally not big on pictures but everyone else is, so I use to order the (10) 8x10 print package for $149.95 but discovered the photo book for the same exact price. I think we chose somewhere in the neighborhood of 36 photos. Moral of this story is I paid the same price received more photos and didn't have to figure out what to do with the photos when we came home.
