i google search "can you use an expired driver license as id"

Yes, if the driver license, permit or non-driver ID card (photo document) expiredduring the past 2 years. For example, you can use a New York State photo driver license that expired during the past two years as the proofs of your identity and date of birth to apply for a replacement driver license.
Use of driver license, permit or non-driver ID cards that are expired as ...

so why can"t you use old driver license to prove who you are?
I think you're misunderstanding your own information. The link you give is pretty clear here:

Your link is for applying for a replacement driver's license. That is completely and utterly different than what you were suggesting to use it for down in WDW.

my point is if it is good enough for the state to prove who you are why would it not be good enough for disney to prove who you are , you have to go to a government agency for the photo it proves who you are.disney just want to make sure the person with the ap or dvc card is the one using it so why would't an old driver license do that it has your photo and name on it .disney is not making sure you are legal to drive

I mean..I really not certain how I can explain it. It seem pretty self-explanatory with all due respect why a DMV would take an expired license in order to get a replacement license but it would not be valid ID for other purposes.

At the end of the day in all honesty and with no disrespect meant you do what you feel is necessary but in the grand scheme I would not advise using an expired ID, I would not leave an ID in the room and take a photocopy of it with me, me personally I would take the ID with me. The few cards we had (combination of DLs and bank cards) in our park bag took up no room at all and how we carried them in our bag meant it was very unlikely someone could have pickpocketed it.

I know how you feel on losing IDs, etc. I just mailed off earlier last month my old passport which wasn't expired yet but I needed to change my name finally after 5 years of marriage. I was nervous about mailing it. But I got it back and my new one with no issues at all.

If I couldve done this back in the day family trips would have so much more...fun. With my "other" ID.

I wouldn't order alcohol unless I had my ID anywhere. I rarely get carded at places in general but I always have my ID on me-I don't think I would want to be in that position if I was asked for it and I couldn't prove I was old enough to drink. Just know for future reference just carry your IDs..it's hardly an imposition to do so but would ensure you have proper ID should you be carded.
I don't drink alcohol anyway so it doesn't really affect me. DH knows from now on that we just got really lucky and he will need his id if he expects to drink.

And it’s for New York, not Florida.

And Disney isn’t the dmv.

As someone who lives in New York State, an expired license is basically useless for anything other than applying for a new license. I have a friend who doesn't drive but had an expired NYS identification card and she had to get a new one so that she could get on a plane. Because an expired identification card is worthless.

Honestly, it's really just good sense to have valid ID on you at all times. I understand wanting to minimize what you bring with you, but a valid ID would never be the card I choose to leave behind.

will be going to the mouse in 3 week , i do not plan on carrying my wallet .i am dvc ,ap and Disney visa. i have a copy of my dvc card on my phone can i take a picture of my ap and or disney visa .to show for discount .and can i also take a photo of my driver license for id.

No, copies won't work! We never leave our ID's behind, also keep one credit card. We always keep our medical cards with us also - just never know - better safe than sorry. I carry a small cross body bag for small essentials and hardly know it's there!

My phone case has a spot to slide my credit card and ID in the back of it and it's not a bulky case at all. I would never dream about going out without my ID, especially as an AP holder.

buying alcohol is not the issue i am not on DDP so if i want alcohol and get turned down no big deal i will live just fine (i am in my 50's so have not been carded for alcohol in a long time but once aging if i get turn down no biggy)i just hate caring id (Afraid i will lose it or get pick pocketed and i will not have it for the real important things you need id for like getting on plane to get back home if i lose my id that would be a big pain in the a@@)as far as medical i am with wife 99.9 % of time if something did happen she know more about my health than i do .the reason you have to show id is to prove it is you, there is a photo with your name ,same thing with a picture of your id it shows your name and a photo (and if someone was going to fake the photo of he's id he could just as easily fake the real id (do you real think i cast member looks that hard at any id)

just had a thought what about an old expired driver license like i said no cast member look the hard at them

As a person who works in health care this just made me either mad or LOL.

In the event of an emergency your "wife" is not an acceptable identification. You and your wife will become "Jane and John Doe" leaving the healthcare providers to try to figure out who you are. Yes a photocopy of an ID MIGHT help us but we won't be able to use that as "substantive" proof.

You need a government issued ID and it needs to be on you.

Please be a responsible 50 year old and carry your id! The only group where it's not acceptable are kids and you don't qualify.

Just use a ziploc sandwich bag: I put my drivers license, AP card, $20 bill/cash, Disney Visa (get into character meets Epcot, HS). I put the ziploc (sealed up) in a front zippered pocket of my shorts. Weighs nothing, not lumpy so I can go 'no bag' line. (I wear a MB, and hold my phone in my hand.)

Several times I've gotten DS his waffle at Sleepy Hallow much faster b/c MB system down, but they can take cash.

I need the Disney Visa at 2 of the parks, for DS to meet characters. I'll forget it those days so carry it to every park.

sorry this is not Nazi Germany i do not did to carry government papers .and that is why there is so much stole id in the world people like you do not protect your id more.there are multiple way for a government agency to id you in a emergence (the car you are in ,people around you, like wife your phone many way for a government to id if needed)but people today think it is no big deal to show driver license or give their social number over the phone once your id is taken from you you can NEVER truly get it 100% back

i am sorry i asked the question here i should have known the type of answer i would get but i will stop looking at this thread and go about my life just fine the way i have i will take my chances with out carry id and will try the old id at Disney and if they so no i will discuss it with the manager at the time .thank all for your opinions but that is all they are including mine opinions

I have no idea what you wanted to learn here, however if you wanted validation that photos of ID's are acceptable, you came to the wrong place. I was a server for years, and if anyone provided a photo as ID i would escort them out the door. After I moved to the business offices of a school district I watched people attempting to gain entry without proof of Idenity, and they were denied. I cannot even make a CC purchase without my photo ID, and I am happy for that level of security. IF I attempted to use my DH as proof of my identity in a medical emergency I rather doubt that he woudl be considered "legal" proof of insurance.

AS far as "opinions" many of us are not spouting opinions, but the experiences we have in our own professions.

people today think it is no big deal to show driver license

This is correct. It is NO BIG DEAL to show your drivers license. Your SSN is not on your license. A license is an ID, and the purpose of an ID is to show it when people need to see your ID.

It almost seems like you are mixing up a drivers license and a Social Security Card. You definitely should not carry your Social Security Card with you, but you should always carry your drivers license.

If the server asks for ID and can't accept your phone picture of your ID or an expired ID, I doubt talking to the manager will make any difference. There are specific liquor license guidelines to follow and the bar or restaurant can lose their liquor license and the employee not following the guidelines can lose their job.

Honestly if the OP is truly that concerned about identity theft he/she should realize that a photocopy of all the mentioned documents would provide said thief with the same information as the originals would.
Bottom line? If one wants to drink alcohol/use the Disney Visa to make a discounted purchase/use an AP/DVC discount proper identification will almost certainly be required.
