Two yrs ago at Disney I saw a family with photomosaic T Shirt's many of thier pictures shrunk down to tiles and placed in the shape of a mickey head, she said she used a photo program, made three circles and placed them together then did some shading, it wasw GREAT! she did not however know what program she used... Does anyone know of such a program?

I love fooling with pixs and was going to by Photoshop adobe elements recently at costco, but it seemed that only organized pictures... I want to do more than that... like edit, add caption bubbles, lighten, etc...

suggestions appreciated...
pix's too!

There is a free program called Andrea Mosaic that seems to work pretty well. http://www.andreaplanet.com/andreamosaic/

Here's my first attempt with it. I did this one a few months ago but haven't played with it since.

Thanks. It's fairly easy to use, but it does take quite awhile to create the mosaic. IIRC mine took about 45 minutes. I can't remember how many pictures I used (maybe 400?) but the more you have, the better it will work. You set parameters, including how many times images can be repeated, how much the colors can be altered, whether it can flip and rotate images, etc. The more latitude you give the software, the more the final product will resemble the image you start with, but at the same time it looks kind of weird if the same picture is repeated in every other tile so you have to find the right balance. There are some helpful tutorials and advice on the site for setting the parameters. Good luck!

Andrea Mosaic is a lot of fun. Here is one I tried...

Another recommendation for AndreaMosaic. A year or so back several folks on the Disney Cruise board here on DisBoards.com pooled our photos and created some mosaics, click on the link below to view them, you can zoom in to see the photos that make up the mosaic. We made some postcards out of the result and they came out very nicely.

this is pretty cool...how big of a finished product does it need to be to see the actual images making it up...afraid it would be kind of like one of those old 3d pictures where i could never see anything but squilly blobs of color?:rotfl2:

It all depends on the number of photos you use and the size of each photo. The more/smaller photos you use; the better the final image will come out. The smaller the individual photos are the larger your final print will need to be to make out the small ones... Clear as mud, right?

I think I have confused myself now. You just have to play with it, I think. :goodvibes

I can't get the program to see the jpegs in my files

Any help out there?

Thanks

i had a bit of trouble getting the program to save the correct files, then when it did, it didn't save the picture and I couldn't find the folder I created..
More attempts tomorrow...

If ou remember the name of the file you saved it as then just use windows search in the windows start menu. Or use a portion of the name. Then if it finds it you can see where it is saved.

I tried it last night and it automatically saves it for you when it is done creating. It saves it in the same folder that you got the picture from that was used to create the mosaic. It just says mosaic after the name.

I also ahd a hard time getting it to find my jpeg files but found out that you just need to type the name of the folder they are in and it wokred like a charm. I resized all my pictures first to 300 pixels wide and it worked fast.

I've been having too much fun with this! 1st two tries didn't turn out well... probably not enough pics. This one isn't great, but I can identify the original image!
