We frequent WDW but We have never been the week between Xmas and NYE. We usually buy memory maker but I am second guessing this idea because I fear crazy lines for all of the photographers. Anyone have experience with photographers specifically?

I don’t find Photopass photographers around the parks much busier than normal, if at all. I mean, there are usually lines for Photopass after the MK fireworks down Main Street anyways, no matter what time of year you go. We didn’t find much difference at park closing. But we generally find lines move fast, even if they seem long.

If you’re talking about Photopass photographers at character meets, then that’s a different story.

lines will be longer for everything, attractions, dining and photopass, but not that much longer if you don't go with the first obvious one
Like when you enter MK don't go for the first one on Main Street, walk up and you will find more with less lines
Also right after they light up the castle lines for photopass are long but if you wait a while they die down.
And don't forget about different angles, some photopass are stationed in spots that are not the usual ones, those tend to have less lines
