First time w/ kids going to Universal for 3 days. I see they don't have as many cameras around the park as Disney, so my question, is it worth the $90, and how exactly does it work? Seems much more of a to do than the Memory Maker is going to be at Disney.

If you are the kind of family who buys the ride photos then it's a deal for sure. if you have an AP and are going this month there is a prepaid option for $35-ish dollars. And either way you can look around for deals. The main reason I do it is to get good photos with all of us on it. (Otherwise you'd never know o was even on the trip since I would never be in pics!)
If we had not gotten it for such a low price I would have felt that it wasn't worth the money. I tried to take advantage of absolutely every photographer and ride photograph and came home with 35 or so for three days. And that counts getting multiple photos from several of the photographers. Without the pass Places with green screen (Spider-Man. Grinch. ) will look funny because you won't have the background added. The quality and quantity are not near the same as WDW. I was very disappointed the first time I used universal photo. But knew what to expect this time.
You can always ask photographers or other guests to take your photo as an option.
Not sure if that helps. Or if it's just mad ramblings :) but that was our experience.

We felt for the ride photos, the ET closet, Spiderman, and the Transformers characters (and the always famous entrance photos), we thought it was a good deal. A great deal? No. But, the more we look back on that vacation, the more we look at the pictures and the memories. For whatever reason, the Iphone pictures are just not the same.

That being said, it can quickly come out of the budget if we need to save somewhere.

Exactly what I fear I will regret if we don't do it. Thank you both for sharing your experiences. Big help

DD21 and I are going on our first trip to Universal next month, and I bought the Photoconnect (during their Black Friday sale). I know I won't get the hundreds of pictures I'd get at Disney with their Photopass, but I do want photos of us together, and not all selfies. And I'm really, really not the type of person to ask a stranger to take a photo for me.

I wanted to peace of mind that I'd get some photos of the two of us.

How do you connect your photos to your account with Photoconnect? At Disney with the Magic Bands for ride photos you don't have to do anything, they just appear linked to your account within a few hours (most of the time). Do you have to stop by the booth and "claim" your photos at the ride at Universal?

You have a photoconnect card. We put it in our lanyard with our Express Pass (although you do get a separate lanyard marked photoconnect that employees are trained to see). When you get off a ride, you walk to the photo booth, give them the number of the ride picture and they scan your card. Takes about 10 seconds. For character pictures, the photographer takes a picture of your card, then you. There is a certain amount of effort to make sure they know you have your card (especially if you hide your lanyard or opt to carry the card). As always, some photographers are a little more on the ball than others.
